I'm so excited about our newborn photography session. An old friend of mine came over and took photos of LO alone along with our first family photos. We haven't got them back yet but yesterday I got a preview picture and I'm in love.
Have you taken any? Care to share your pics? Even if your photos aren't professional... Care to share?
I just love pictures of babies so share what you've got and share often.

Here's my babe.

Re: Newborn Photography
We are doing photos end of June. I'm mad at myself for not getting newborn pics- I didn't think I wanted them but seeing how adorable she is at this size I regret not getting them. But our family pics in June will be fun!
These are two of my favorites from our newborn session! My boy is a keeper!
(I usually just lurk unless i have something to contribute, sorry)
heard. I looked into a few photographers(5) and it was about $300 for the pictures to be taken and another $300-700 for images (prints and digital only given if purchased- one wanted $80 per image just to be able to get rights to print a birth announcement). The additional images/purchases were often a commitment of booking a session.
I did find one photographer, who's portfolio was not as great that was $325 and included digital rights to 15 images...I'm wondering if I should consider that a deal.
As an aside, seeing all of your precious newborns makes me think I'll be rushing to arrange something since I don't want to miss out.
My entire deal was $125 for a session and $200 commitment to purchases. So really, minimum spent would be $325. But we're doing one of her packages for $350, which include 10 printed images any size up to 8x10 and those same 10 on a digital disk. Total: $475 is what we're spending, maybe more if we find more than 10 that we like.
Another photographer I researched charged $250 for a session and her packages were way more expensive with less items. Her quality of work was just as good as the one I'm using now. Moral is, just because they're more expensive, doesn't mean they're better.
The most important thing is the safety of the newborn, you want someone who has had a lot of experience. I didn't realize it till I went to my session. Our photographer was very patient with our son, even though he was being difficult, she spent 4 hours with him and spent 45 minutes on 1 pose sometimes! Newborns are so fragile and floppy!
I would say, choose someone you'd be comfortable with handling your newborn and you like they're quality of work instead of focusing on the prices too much. The deal might not be worth it for someone with little experience.
ETA: she did 4 scenes/prop shots for us too.
We live in a major city and similar package rates were between $200- 275. I chose our photographer because I know her and like her work with newborns.

i had ours done at 10 days old...should get the images this week. I can't wait!!!
FWIW I'm in Canada and I paid $400! I only get 10 images out of it too. It's so crazy expensive!
I worked as a photographer for a few years, so my standards are pretty high for photographers I'm going to pay, meaning that the photographer I was interested in charged around $700 for her smallest package. She is super talented, and I'm nowhere NEAR as good as her, but I just couldn't justify spending the money on that when I can do an ok job myself and save the money. And I'm really glad I decided to get the doula instead because after 67 hours of labor, I'm pretty sure the doula was the best money I've ever spent.
(Edited words)
We we still haven't gotten our photos back. I'm so nervous because she had a huge cry fit in our mom/daughter photos. It was a long morning/afternoon, and her studio was so hot.
We were dealing with jaundice for the first 3.5 weeks, so I just took a few of all three kids together. Now my guy is out of that squishy newborn deep sleep phase and he's not very easy to pose.
@lisatib your kids are adorable!

Our photographer charges $200 for everything. She's amazing.
In my area, you can expect to spend anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand on a session, depending on the skill level, digitals, print packages, etc. I am a photographer by profession, so am VERY picky. This was one thing I absolutely would not compromise on. I spent just under 1k on a package for maternity and newborn sessions with digitals. I'll do all the printing, announcements and baby book myself.
Our photographer is a family friend and on the more pricey side (but worth it). We paid 425 but that was a deal...I think it's normally 500.
