Newborn Photography

I'm so excited about our newborn photography session. An old friend of mine came over and took photos of LO alone along with our first family photos. We haven't got them back yet but yesterday I got a preview picture and I'm in love.

Have you taken any? Care to share your pics? Even if your photos aren't professional... Care to share?

I just love pictures of babies so share what you've got and share often.

Here's my babe.

    We're getting them done Thursday! I am excited, we did not get any newborn photos done with our first.

    @charla1224 your daughter is gorgeous!!

    We are doing photos end of June. I'm mad at myself for not getting newborn pics- I didn't think I wanted them but seeing how adorable she is at this size I regret not getting them. But our family pics in June will be fun!

    Can I ask (and pardon me if it's rude) but what is the going rate of a newborn session? Doesn't have to be what you paid, just quotes you
    heard.  I looked into a few photographers(5) and it was about $300 for the pictures to be taken and another $300-700 for images (prints and digital only given if purchased- one wanted $80 per image just to be able to get rights to print a birth announcement). The additional images/purchases were often a commitment of booking a session.

    I did find one photographer, who's portfolio was not as great that was $325 and included digital rights to 15 images...I'm wondering if I should consider that a deal.

    As an aside, seeing all of your precious newborns makes me think I'll be rushing to arrange something since I don't want to miss out.

    @TinaTho *Disclaimer: my photographer is one of the best/safest for newborns in the area and big city parents come to her from over 1-2 hours and even states away. But she lives and has her studio in a rural area so that might impact her price*

    My entire deal was $125 for a session and $200 commitment to purchases. So really, minimum spent would be $325. But we're doing one of her packages for $350, which include 10 printed images any size up to 8x10 and those same 10 on a digital disk. Total: $475 is what we're spending, maybe more if we find more than 10 that we like.

    Another photographer I researched charged $250 for a session and her packages were way more expensive with less items. Her quality of work was just as good as the one I'm using now. Moral is, just because they're more expensive, doesn't mean they're better.

    The most important thing is the safety of the newborn, you want someone who has had a lot of experience. I didn't realize it till I went to my session. Our photographer was very patient with our son, even though he was being difficult, she spent 4 hours with him and spent 45 minutes on 1 pose sometimes! Newborns are so fragile and floppy!

    I would say, choose someone you'd be comfortable with handling your newborn and you like they're quality of work instead of focusing on the prices too much. The deal might not be worth it for someone with little experience.

    ETA: she did 4 scenes/prop shots for us too.

    I was very happy we did newborn photos. Will see if I can share any online. They are set up in a private gallery. Our photographer had a $100 session fee, and packages started around $200 and went up.   Buying digital rights is $500. We just saw the pictures on Friday and haven't decided on what to buy yet.

    Our photographer charged us $250 for a 2.5 hour shoot in our home. She brought some props but mostly used our nursery and home decor. This rate gives us digital rights to our photos to duplicate, print, or whatever else we want.
    We live in a major city and similar package rates were between $200- 275. I chose our photographer because I know her and like her work with newborns.

  • @sparkledonuts that photo is absolutely gorgeous!!!! She's a beauty

    i had ours done at 10 days old...should get the images this week. I can't wait!!!

    FWIW I'm in Canada and I paid $400! I only get 10 images out of it too. It's so crazy expensive!
  • We paid $1200 which includes three framed pictures and all digital files. The photographer I wanted to use would have been $1800 and only included 15 digital photos. Ridiculous.

    We we still haven't gotten our photos back. I'm so nervous because she had a huge cry fit in our mom/daughter photos. It was a long morning/afternoon, and her studio was so hot.
  • We just finished. I know now why I didn't have them done with the first babe. Holy hell that was not my scene.

    @lisatib these are SO cute, omg! I'm obsessed. Your kids are so photogenic! I'm also bummed I've missed the squishy newborn phase of my baby, she has just been too fussy with her reflux and so I'm super sad that I missed the timeframe of basically shaping her into little baby origami shapes.
  • We did ours yesterday and she refused to sleep for any of it. Seeing everyone else's, I can't wait to get ours back!
    @lisatib your kids are adorable!

    Elizabeth refused to sleep too. Luckily she didn't go crosseyed too often. Lol

  • We did ours this week and our toddler was not having it, at all. All of my romantic visions of adorable sibling photos went out the window, I'll be happy if we have one of all of us where no one is crying!

    We just got our preview, baby was wide awake for most of it so no sleepy newborn shots but I'm obsessed with the one with his tongue out. It's the same bear we used in all of DS1's month photos.

    These are amazing. Your baby is beautiful. Also... Is that last picture your bedroom? Can you come decorate my home?

    Thank you!! I promise, it never looks that nice. All of our mess was shoved into closets until the photographer left. We pretended to be responsible adults for a few hours.
  • We got ours done before discharge at the hospital. It was a photographer from Mom365 and we paid close to 400$ but got a TON of prints, CDs, birth announcements, and even a wood framed photo. It had a lot of stuff.
