How far away is your hospital?

Or birthing center, or whatever. The hospital/ob clinic I'm at is like a 45 minute drive from my house with no traffic. With traffic...probably 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on whether or not it's rush hour (DC area, pretty bad traffic). Has anyone else done this? It kind of freaks me out being so far away and makes me hope for a middle of the night baby.

My hospital is about a 35 minute drive from my house. With traffic it's about a 45 minute drive. Not terrible, but rush hour is horrendous.

Eta that last part because my phone is crazy.

My hospital is about a 30 minute drive without traffic. With traffic, maybe 35-40 but typically there shouldn't be traffic on the route. Being due in the dead of winter in PA has me a little nervous, but our new house is literally one block from a small community hospital. They do not have a maternity ward, but I figure it is better than nothing if I go into labor in the middle of a blizzard.  :D

Our is about 25-35 minutes away depending on traffic.  Technically we have another one that is closer, but it is on the other side of the nearest city and during high traffic times would be harder to get to....the hospital I plan to deliver at is also closer to where I work should something happen early while I'm still working!

I'm in MA so definitely worried about the winter weather...particularly after how mild this winter was...

  • Ours is about 25/35 min away. We have 2 that are less than 10 minutes away but I do not want to have a baby there. Lol!
  • Our hospital is about 10-15min away. Traffic could push it to 20min.

I know this isn't what you asked, but it reminded me.. ours is only about 15 away, but on the way there and any other time we've taken those roads, I never noticed how insanely bumpy they are. I ended up with a c-section and was in tears on the way home because it was so bumpy! There were 3 seperate rail road tracks, tons of pot holes, and just plain bad roads so we will be taking a different route this time. If your roads are bad, you might want to consider having a diff. route just incase of c section!
  • We just moved. The hospital by our old house was one block away, which was super convenient. Now, the hospital is about 20 minutes away. Not too bad, unless labor happens quick. I REALLY hope I dont end up like the lady in the video above. Im not sure I could handle that.....especially with 2 babies.....yikes!

5 minutes unless it's morning rush hour. Then it would be at least 30. Any other time is fine.
  • About 15 minutes from my house but if I go into labor at work (which is likely) it's almost an hour. I went into labor with DD in the middle of the night so fingers crossed that happens again!

@canavara That is insane! She was much calmer than I would be in that situation. (Also, H would probably pass out)

We're about 10-15 min away from our hospital depending on traffic, luckily.

  • We're about 20 minutes from the hospital, maybe 35 with traffic which is usually only an issue in the mornings. No worries about winter storms in FL!

The hospital I'm 90% sure I'll deliver at is 3.5 miles away from home (fastest drive ever) and 25-30 min from work. Another option I had considered is 10 min from home or 40 min from work, or the 3rd option is 20 min from home and 15 min from work....

  • When I had my son we were only 10 minutes away, but we just moved. Now we are about 45 minutes. We talked about changing doctors and hospitals,  but I really liked my doctor so we decided to stick with him.
  • Our hospital is about 5 min from home and about 20-25 min from work.  The drive took less than 5 min with DS since it was 2am and no one else was out.

  • With my first, my hospital and obgyn was 45 mins away. With this one I am only about 5 mins away from the hospital from my house
  • Our hospital is about 15 minutes away.  It's all back roads, so I have my fingers crossed that winter storms don't make it a difficult ride.

  • My hospital is 5 minutes from work and 25-30 minutes from home with no traffic, accidents, or construction.
  • 10 mins, morning rush hour could make it 20-30.

  • This time around 30 mins tops, rush hour traffic (it's a college town with one main drag between us and the college) but with our first we were a little over an hour and half on a good day. It wasn't too bad. My OB knew so she adjusted the criteria for us to head to the hospital if we suspected I was in labor and went I went to on a false alarm they let me hang out in L&D longer than normal to see if I progressed since it would be a pain to drive all the way home just to come back.
  • We are 8-9 minutes away.  We were at this same hospital with our first, then switched to 30 min away with second, and we're back to the first for this third babe.
Even though it's so close, I was induced both times, so I don't know what it looks like to rush to the hospital!  I loved the predictability, haha.

The hospital will be about 18 minutes from home and 16 minutes from work.

  • @katesmama0706 Wow that's awesome your OB did that! I'll have to ask mine if we can do something similar. I would stay at home before I had a baby in a car.

I'm so jealous of you guys who are only a few minutes away! I think there's a hospital much closer to me but I may have to put up a fight to go there, I think I'm only allowed to go to this one that's further away. I guess maybe I'll end up with a juicy story after all of this?

  • Our hospital is about 10 minutes away from both home and work.
  • Our Plan A is at a birth center that is about 50 minutes away. Traffic won't be an issue, the route we would take from our house to there isn't really a busy section of the highway. The big concern for us is winter in New England.

Plan B is at a hospital that is 10 minutes away. It's not my ideal delivery location and wouldn't offer the exact birth I want, but if my health or the baby's is at risk, or there's a snow storm, this is a decent alternative.

  • An hour. Our local hospital doesn't allow vbac, and since I'd like a vba2c, I'm driving to the next closest hospital. I love my dr, so it's worth it. He is very evidence based

  • My hospital is about 20 minutes away. I might be moving back that way and it would only be about 7 mins.
  • I don't know which one we are choosing yet. If we go with the same one my son was born at, about 25 minutes. If its another one we are thinking, 15 minutes.

  • In an emergency there is an hospital less than ten minutes away. But the birthing center is about one hour and half away.

We currently live downtown in our city and it's maybe a 5-10 minute drive with normal traffic, but are trying to buy a house before the baby comes so I'm guessing that 5-10 minute drive is going to turn into 15-20. Here's hoping we don't all end up like:

  • Hospital I plan to deliver at is about 25miles away. Am a bit worried about IL weather in Jan! There is a hospital in town that would take 3mins to get to but there is no OB. Will use of an emergency or snow storm!

  • We are 4 blocks from the hospital - My first was a late term premie and almost didn't pass the carseat test. I was like, 'I can just walk her home people....' thankfully she just barely passed.
  • We are about 20-25 minutes away. However, my husband is an EMT used to driving an ambulance so.... given this is our first child, he will probably move mountains to get to the hospital quickly. There's no telling how quick he could get there!!!

  • We live about 25 minutes from the hospital.  The big issue for us is that our 4 kids will need to be taken to my mom and it is 30 minutes to her house and than 25-30 back to the hospital.  We have at least an hour to get to the hospital.  I may have my parents come to my house instead but honestly we have awhile before I have to worry about it.  Being my 5th labor I have no idea what to expect.
