Successful versions?

Had a BPP/growth scan today and discovered that baby is transverse. He was head down at a sono at 36 weeks, and head down when OB checked my cervix last week, but now his head is in my ribs on the right, his butt is on my left, and his arms and legs are punching and kicking me straight in the vag.

I'm hoping for a VBAC, and my OB suggested a version before I even asked about it. He doesn't do them so I'm waiting for an appointment with a perinatologist, but good old Dr Google has me spooked. Anyone had an ECV before? Was it painful? Successful? Worth it? Could use some non-Google personal advice!  :#

I had a successful one 2 weeks ago at 39 w +2d. Annabelle had her head down by my right hip, butt near my right hip, with her back curled under my ribs. I didn't take long to do but was very intense and painful during that time but I had contractions that hurt worse and  I would do it again so I could attempt a vaginal delivery. I did end up with a c-sec this time but it was due to pre-e and nothing caused by the version.

i started a thread for ECVs a few weeks ago that has a few more stories that you can search for ( can't link on mobile)

  • No personal experience, but my sister had one! She explained it similarly to @slfezz ... intense, but would do it again for the chance to avoid a c section. This was her 3rd child and she really wanted to try to do this the way she knew how already, rather than experiencing a whole new type of recovery when she felt like an old pro. When she talks about it now she describes the process as the doctor being a drill sergeant giving directions to the team helping her, so I guess what I learned from that is to not expect it to be warm and fuzzy :)

I'm sure it's scary but talk to the specialist about how the process works. I've heard lots of different approaches but personally would feel safest having a similar scenario as my sister - version took place in an OR, prepped for an emergency c section if baby didn't tolerate it well, and she was induced right after to avoid baby flipping again.

  • @slfezz thank you! I'll check out the thread, I searched but apparently not very well ...

@lionstigersbears my OB won't induce chemically bc I've had a previous cs, but he said he would consider breaking my water to get things started. Hopeful that spinning babies + ecv gets baby in position for my vbac!

I'll go check the other thread, thanks again ladies!
