Has anyone tried the Hypnobirthing classes? I'm not really much of a hippy, but this interested me a lot in working with pain management. I just wanted to know what people thought or if it worked/helped?
It recently was suggested to check with insurance to see if they might cover childbirth classes. Also, im not sure if it is at all hospitals but I heard new parents take a class before leaving the hospital anyway, and I'm guessing that would cover the essentials? Of course I forgot to ask about either of these details at my appt yesterday
@spaceburger, I am doing hypnobirthing classes (the CDs). My doula is loaning them to me.. I will be picking them up next week. I'll be sure to update! It sounds like something I'm not into but I will give it a shot.
Thanks to this thread, I signed up for an online class through the hospital where I will deliver, and we have access for 6 weeks. Then we paid for an add-on 2 hour Saturday class to take care of the hospital tour, etc. It was $110 for both, which I didn't think was bad. I feel like it's a little early for it, but the next combo class wasn't until November....
I did a class with our first, the best part in my opinion was the tour of the labor and delivery department. The "information" I honestly didn't remember much of it while in actual labor. When you try and sign up for classes it usually makes recommendations, when we took them it was recommended 6 weeks before your due date
Now that we've moved to a different state, I've considered taking it again more for the tour than the labor and delivery information, but I'm going to see if I can just sign up for a tour. Here it's now recommended at 4 week before your due date - and for me that's a busy time of the work year, so I think that'll also be part of why I wouldn't attend.
I'm honestly considering the classes our hospital offers for siblings than classes for myself.
I watched a DVD series at home and found it helpful just from the standpoint of knowing what (probably) comes next.
I may try a hypnobirthing class or something this time around because I want to go med-free. OTOH, I could just do my own research and reading and be fine.
I attended hypnobirthing classes with my first pregnancy. The main thing it did was ease my fear about birth; so much so that about two weeks or so prior to having my son I was not scared at all- I was positive that everything would be just fine. I remembered some of the techniques from class when I was giving birth, but my husband forgot to read the script to me or give me water. Overall the birth went really well.
Add me to the list of people who didn't find the hospital class super helpful but loved the Bradley Method classes. It's geared toward moms who are wanting to go med free BUT even if your not planning on going med free, it's always good to be prepared in case you have a super fast labor. Also loved how hands on it helped hubby to be in labor, so even if you aren't really interested in med-free, I would still give it a shot. If you can't find classes in your area you can always just get the book.
