car seat suggestions

Re: car seat suggestions

  • My BIL&SIL have the Doona for their youngest. It converts into a stroller. They LOVE it and there's a good chance that we'll get it when their LO grows out of it.

  • We have the Britax Travel system (B-Safe car seat and B-Agile stroller) from our first. As a travel system as a whole it's great and the stroller is awesome as an everyday, does everything stroller. The car seat is a little heavy/big though. In all reality we basically moved into a convertible seat at 4 months and could have easily done with a much smaller car seat like the Graco Snugride 22. It is a high quality travel system though and a great deal so if I was buying again I'd probably get it just for the stroller alone. For people worried about weight limits remember that kids will almost always outgrow a seat by height before weight.
  • @atcwag I'll look into the Scenera, we have original for my mom's car.

We honesty never had an issue with the AEO, and the tech who did the install had it for his toddler. But I know different cars fit different seats better than others. And it was a huge seat.
  • @MaMaBear1323 we had entertained that idea but thankfully we got a bucket seats as the lower weight limits for convertibles don't go down to 4lbs. I didn't think I'd need it, but you can't really plan a preemie.
The Maxi Cosi Pria does with the infant insert. We originally got it because we were just going to do a convertible from the beginning, and it had the lowest weight allowed. However, we ended up with a Britax B-Safe because BOB was running a special when you got it free if you bought the stroller and attachment. I loved having the infant seat but still also love our Maxi Cosi (and their customer service is phenomenal!)

Per above we have the Cybex Aton 2 which I generally really like. I am going to buy a car seat canopy for it this time around though because the sunshade sucks. Per above - it's super light weight, easy in-and-out and has great solutions to thinks like SIP without adding bulk or weight.

For DD now we have the Britax Boulevard, which they don't make anymore. I like that it has the steel frame and it has the "click" indicator to tell you when the straps are tight enough. It fits great in our accord.

Our second seat is a Safety First, and it's also the seat I take for airplane trips. It's lighter (no steel frame) but still easy to use, and it has cup holders, which are actually awesome! And it's under $100 which is great. It's mostly only used by my H to pick DD up from daycare. I'm recommending my folks get one too for her.

ETA: apparently they do still make the Boulevard! It had been d/c'd for a while.

It's an ok seat if used properly, it was just so bulky and hard to install. It's outgrown early and makes a very unsafe booster, so should never be used in that mode.
