Symptoms 5.11

Re: Symptoms 5.11

  • I'd feel sorry for DH but a few days after BFP, work sent him outta the country for a few months. At least he can blame work for lack of sex, not me. Fx I feel better when he gets home.

I'm starving all the time but nothing is satisfying after a bite or two. I could think about a certain food all day but as soon as I get it, *meh*. And this week I started having serious hip and tailbone pain, what Dr is saying is pelvic girdle pain.

  • I just vomited.  First time all pregnancy (at 11w 2d).  WTH?  I'm hoping it was just a fluke and I'm not going to have new MS and I'm not getting sick...
  • So far my nausea has been fairly mild. It gets worse when I get hungry. I brilliantly have been eating/snacking constantly to help with this. It's working, but contributing to problem #2..... huge bloat. I just bought a ton of cheap, cute maxi skirts. Never been a flattering style for me before, but now at least they are comfortable and if I wear a loose top over them I look less whale-like.

Also, motion sickness. It is out of control. I've never been a good car passenger but now I have to pull over constantly or stick my head out the window like my dog. Anyone else having out of control motion/car sickness?

@rdh33 Yes the burping! I am disgusted with myself. But it feels SO much better after.

I was super constipated but it seems like the last few days things are a little better. I'm 8+3 (tho my progress won't be confirmed until Tuesday - based on pelvic exam my doc thinks I may be further along) and while carbs are still satisfying, I've been craving fruit. I'm assuming the fruit has helped move things along. But I'm starting to freak out that my MS and constipation have decreased.
  • New symptom: vertigo

I had this last pregnancy too. I don't even know how I made it to work this morning because the room wouldn't stop spinning. I'm doing better at the moment, but if I turn my head or eyes quickly, the whole world goes.

  • Adding constipation and pregnancy rhinitis to my symptom list.  I'm so over the first trimester it's not even funny.  Basically today sucks and I'm being a huge baby about it!

  • Nausea took a break over the weekend while I was traveling, it was a freaking miracle. Now that I'm back home it's back with a vengeance.

I'm so emotional - the other day the hot water ran out in the shower and I wept like a baby for a good 10 minutes. One part of my brain knew it wasn't a huge deal, and the pregnant part knew it was the end of the world.

Super smell - there's something in the fridge that needs to be thrown out, and I can smell it sitting in the next room with the fridge door closed. This is not a superpower I ever needed.
  • Emotional crying. I posted an article about my last baby and all the feels that go along with it. I ugly cried at work any time I thought about it. Now a friend read it and quoted something she once read, "one day you're going to put your child down and never pick them back up again." Needless to say, I'm bawling again.

  • I have a little of everything...nausea, headaches( but I have a few brain aneurysms and an AVM) seizures, but the biggest one is EXHAUSTION. How tired is too tired? I used to wake up at 5 am and work out for an hour before work every day, then went straight back to the gym after work. Now, since about wk 5, it takes everything in me to drag myself out of bed at 7:30, and I sleep for hours the moment I get home. Is anyone else this tired?
  • Fatigue! I couold barely keep my eyes open last night around 7:30p. I got through a couple shows that we watched together, and was in bed by 9:30 - it was still light out! I did take the combo unisom/B6 and that knocked me out until 5am when I woke up on my own, and then my alarm went off at 5:30. I am still tired today, so it must have stuck around.

MS has been off and on still, and still feeling lucky that it could be worse. Last night when I was brushing my teeth, I had some interesting coughs/gagging that could have led to some puking. That seems to be what my body does instead of actually puking. I will take it.

Constipation AND Diarrhea. I think I poop twice a week, but lately  my stomach has just been upset so that's been fun. I think I may need to buy some metamucil so when I actually do go, it doesn't hurt. Will this be the beginning of hemorrhoids? Ugh.

I do get dizzy, but it's only when I am at home and get up off the couch. I just have to take my time getting up and then I am usually OK. BUT, this was always normal just need to be careful.

  • @jenlynne0624 that quote is one of the saddest things I've ever read regarding parenting.

My symptoms took awhile to show up and have now disappeared. I know that's normal and I should be grateful, but it still makes me nervous. My first appointment isn't until Tuesday so I'm sure I'll be nervous until then.
  • Reading this thread has made me feel less like a disgusting ball of sickness. All the movies told me that pregnancy was beautiful and fulfilling! All the ladies in the pregnancy magazines look so happy! Me on the other hand-- I have been unable to keep dinner down for a solid month, I have acid reflux from the first bite of breakfast onward, and I spend all afternoon waffling between being too nauseous to eat and too nauseous NOT to eat.

sarah12 - Yes! I get motion sickness every time I drive! It doesn't help that we live on winding mountain roads. The other night, I got out of the car and ran straight to the bathroom to start vomiting. DH made the mistake of off-handedly suggesting that the sickness was "all in my head." He spent the next hour rubbing my back and profusely apologizing for his stupid comment while I sobbed over the toilet.

beff12 - My husband is in the exact same boat with my pregnancy brain! He started a small business this year, and so we spend a lot of time talking through his decisions together. I used to give pretty good council (in my not-so-humble opinion!), but since the pregnancy brain started, our business discussions involve me staring at him for ten minutes and then asking him to repeat everything he just said.

Ugh husbands! Mine said something like "I don't believe you're faking it, but maybe it's anxiety/anticipation of getting sick making it worse."  He instantly regretted saying it once he saw my face.
  • My husband has also said the MS was "all in your head" because it started the day after we got the BFP. He has since retracted the statement, on one fine day when nothing would say down and in between heaving I was shouting at him "ALL IN MY HEAD IS IT!?" He is now a true believer the MS is real, and it has the power to control everything.

  • The idea that morning sickness (and labor pains too actually) are mental is an age old misogynistic relic of the fact that men established women's health practice in the medical field. Thank GOD that's changed/changing. The way women used to be treated during pregnancy even just a few decades ago is insane.

Its not mental. We deserve a bit of reverence for carrying along humanity in the face of some extremely uncomfortable evolutionary challenges.

also interesting that in some races morning sickness is unheard of.

THIS. Have any of you read a short story called The Yellow Wallpaper? Google it. Scary stuff.

Yes! Anyone who hasn't read "The Yellow Wallpaper" should! Scary, scary portrayal of the "rest cure" and how Victorian doctors believed that everything from migraines to depression was just "hysteria" in women.

And, if you're really interested in the horrifying history of women's medicine, you should look up some old medical textbooks from ancient Rome. There are some great quotes about how the natural state of a woman is to be pregnant and how all female ailments can be solved by becoming pregnant. Ahhhhhhh!

Also, I hope I didn't give the impression that my husband is a jerk! He has been a wonderful help during this first trimester and is usually very sensitive. He just said a dumb thing one night, instantly regretted it, and now has seen the light ;-)

It really is one of the saddest things ever, and I have cried more times than I care to admit over the last few weeks because of thigns like this. When I am putting ds down for the night, he likes to snuggle and give me hugs and make sure my head is resting on his chest so he can hold me, and I just cry because I am terrified for when these things no longer happen. I broke down to dh and said things like this and he didn't want to hear them either. I was never this emotional last pregnancy.

  • I am on diclegis and Zofran and still nauseous most of the time though I only vomit occasionally so I can be functional most of the time. The medicine makes my exhaustion even worse and it doesn't help that I have been working crazy hours at work. I also started getting round ligament pains though still less than no bump. Being emotional is normal for me but I am a bit weepy about not having as much time with my daughter.
The one thing that really bothers me is the snot and congestion from allergies. I can't breathe through my nose and it runs down my throat and chokes me and there is nothing I am allowed to take to clear me out.
  • Got my first taste of RLP yesterday. Was not pleasant. The new meds the doctor gave me are definitely helping my nausea. I feel like a human being again, except for the total exhaustion and bloating.

Yep! Also the reason a hysterectomy is called that is because they performed it to treat "hysteria." They thought that the male form was the most ideal and that if women acted out, it was because of their not-ideal woman parts. Uhhh excuse me??? So, SO appreciative of the leaps and bounds that have been made in modern women's medicine!
  • the reason a hysterectomy is called that is because they performed it to treat "hysteria."
    I didn't realize that! Crazy!
  • @allicat89 Yep! Also, the decline of "female hysteria" is attributed to the vibrator. Is it just me or was medicine just super wonky before women got involved?

@ashleaf2018 - Super wonky might be an understatement! Also, I'm thrilled that you used the word "wonky!" Such a great word!
