Positive cheap test then negative digital

has anyone gotten a BFP on a FRER but then a negative digital the next morning? Missed period yesterday so I tested and got very faint positive. Took a digital with FMU this morning and its negative

Congrats. FRERs are more sensitive than digitals. Wait two more days and then retry.

Digitals need about 50 miu/mL (I think that's the unit?) of hcg while a lot of cheapies get as low as 25 or so. You'll probably get a positive digital tomorrow or the next day. The new FRERs with the curved handles, however, have been notorious for tricky evaps and false positives so unfortunately that's another possibility if that's the test you used.

  • I don't think of FRERs as a "cheap test"; they are usually reliable earlier than digitals as PP mentioned, because digitals aren't as sensitive.

@FiancB, the curved handle tests weren't a thing yet when I was pregnant, I used the old version of the FRER. That sucks about the new ones, those were the tests most people rely on.

I lurk. I snark. I offer sound advice if you're not BSC. You may not like me. I'm okay with it.

LOL I was thinking that, too. Cheap tests are from the dollar store or wondfo. If $14ish for two tests is cheap, OP has more money than I do XD

  • I had the opposite happen. A late faint line on a Wondfo with FMU, followed up with 2 tests using the same batch of SMU: the digital weeks estimator said "Pregnant 1-2" and the dollar store test most doctors use was Snow White BFN. That was at 12DPO.

At the family doc's office at 13DPO, their dollar store test didn't turn as fast as they're used to seeing, the doc even came in telling me it was negative, but he put in a blood test anyway. Then in comes the nurse correcting him, a faint line popped up after a couple minutes. Doc agreed it was positive and said they're not used to women coming in until their period was at least a week late.

So yes, you can have conflicting results and still be pregnant.

  • I had positives on the Wondofo's and a negative on the Clearblue Easy Digital so it's possible.
