"Morning" Sickness...

I just need to know I am not alone!  I'm having all day sickness... I haven't thrown up yet, but I literally feel hungover on a boat ALL DAY LONG.  I was the same way with DD1, but this board seems to be full of ladies who are starving and not sick.  That was me about 2 weeks ago, but now I feel freaking awful and can barely make it through the day much less take care of a toddler after a day of work... I need some company in my complaining!

Re: "Morning" Sickness...

  • Ugh hugs! That was me last time @SarahS11 it was literally all day and I was absolutely miserable.  I actually ended up taking Zofran for a while so I could function. Might be worth at least discussing with your doctor (I actually got a prescription before my first exam). MS hasn't hit yet this time but I kind of feel like it is only a matter of time.  I hope you get some relief!

  • Yes! I am with you. I kept telling my DH I feel like I'm on a boat. I get sick about twice a day but am nauseous every waking hour. This is my first so I didn't know what to expect, and I know I have it better than a lot of people but it's still pretty rotten.
  • It hasn't hit me yet, but last pregnancy I literally woke up on week 6 throwing up around the clock until week 14. I ended up super dehydrated at my 8 week appt so my doctor prescribed a few different things because no home remedies worked! I'm with a new doctor this time around and have a daughter to take care of so I'm hoping this new doctor will be kind and prescribe the meds if I need them again!

I can commiserate, unfortunately! I've been nauseated 100% of the time, from the moment I wake up. It even woke me out of my sleep twice!  :s

I'm taking unisom + b6 and it's helping me function but I still feel like hell. My insurance denied Diclegis (which makes me RAGE, my boss is so mad after it covered exactly $0 for our IF that the whole company is switching in December) but it's the same as unisom and b6, just delayed release which would be rad. It still doesn't make me hungry, or make food appetizing or even bearable really..... But I make it to work so I count it as a win.

ETA I'm 6w2d and reallllly looking forward to the moment ms goes away....

It's the worst! With my last pregnancy I had all day sickness until about 22 weeks. I threw up everyday. Sometimes 30x a day. I was prescribed zofran but it didn't always help. So far I haven't thrown up but I do feel dizzy and nauseous most of the day. I'm hoping I can get by a litter easier this time. I also have a toddler and am terrified how I'll be able to keep up.

Edit** because spellcheck likes zodiac better than zofran.

I'm starving AND sick.  I second that hungover/on a boat feeling.  All day long I feel that queasy, off feeling and when I get hungry, nothing sounds good, so I eat crackers.  It's a vicious cycle.  I was super pumped because I ate a small dinner on Sunday, but then that came back up.  I wish I could eat more substantial food since I feel like I'd be better able to fight the fatigue.
  • I am definitely feeling the same way. To top it off my dd is teething and still nursing. I dry heave every time she latches. It's horrible! I also had Hyperemesis Gervardium with her and can feel that returning already at 5+6

  • Spoke too soon.  The nausea hit hard last night and what I planned for dinner sounded terrible.  Halfway through breakfast this morning I felt like I was going to be sick.  I've felt queasy most of the morning too.  Ugh.

  • Almost constant nausea here. No throwing up, but part of me wishes I did, just so I could get some relief. Then I realize, nope, no relief, not even after throwing up. So I guess I'm grateful to just be constantly nauseous. I find the more carby, gluten-y things seem to help, which sucks 'cos I'm gluten sensitive, but I've thrown all diet restrictions to the wind just for some minor relief. 6-8 more weeks to go!

  • I'm with you too!  I felt hungover (nauseated and headachy ) from 6 weeks until about 14 weeks with my first pregnancy.  So far week 6 seems to be starting the same way this time.  This is going to be a long first trimester with a toddler to chase :open_mouth:

  • I am trying to convince myself that's it all in my head. I wasn't sick at all with my son, but starting to feel hungover the last day or so.
  • Can't join this party yet, but I'm sure it's around the corner. It struck me with my daughter at exactly 6 weeks and I couldn't move off of my couch. I would gag and heave constantly. Praying it will skip me this time, knowing it won't.
  • Definitely not alone. I've been sick since the day before my BFP at 3.5 weeks. Day and night. Last pregnancy, with twins, it didn't start until 6 weeks and I counted myself lucky. My mom told me she was sick when she was carrying me until 5 months...

I wish I had a link to it but I read a story on NPR a few days ago where there was a recent study that showed higher levels of HCG in early pregnancy were linked to higher intelligence in children later on (they measured betas and then gave IQ tests to the children when they were around age 4-5), so if nothing else, you can be optimistic about the fact that you're probably having a normal, healthy pregnancy haha
  • new_ivfnew_ivf member
I don't think higher levels of HCG necessarily mean you will have more morning sickness. I had double the HCG levels & increase compared to average with my Betas and don't feel a thing!! Nothing!!!

I am starting to think I'm actually not pregnant, it's unreal until I see an u/s  because everyone here seems to be so sick already.... :-(
  • I got that around 7 weeks with my daughter... never got it with my ectopic and got it literally the day after I found out with this one. This morning I took Emetrol and I threw it up within minutes. And hot flashes . With a toddler pulling your hair and a dog linking your feet on top of that is just a cherry on the cake.

    It's a BOY

Can you not rub in your lack of ms on a post where we're commiserating about our crippling ms please? Thanks.

ETA I get that you're nervous but please have some self-awareness and not torture us here. There is (or should be) another post that would be far more appropriate for you in that regard.

I'm luckily in the same boat, although now that I've said something my luck will run out lol.  So far I've been exercising at least every other day and drinking plenty of water.  Smells get to me but no morning sickness yet.
  • @tinabelcher I actually just asked my husband this! How do people do this? I am nauseous 24/7, can't sleep from the nausea, exhausted, ughhh. Someone just tell me this does get better.
  • With my first it was horrible I had hyperemesis gravidarum that started at 7 weeks and went too 16 weeks. Food commercials would make me throw up, including smells. I could barely function, I lost weight. I'm hoping this one will be different but if not I'm enjoy food now why I can until I hit that brick wall.
  • Eesh. I can't imagine that all day nausea you ladies are feeling! So sorry.I have been lucky and no nausea yet. I keep waiting for it to happen but nothing.
  • @BAJDesigns it got better for me by 12 weeks, and was gone by 16 weeks. I remember crying thinking "I'm going to feel this way until I deliver" which thankfully wasn't the case.
  • Definitely feel hungover ALL day. Constant nausea/indigestion with no vomiting. Which is lucky for me because I hate vomiting. ugh. I'm just so tired and hungry but CAN'T eat anything. It's the worst.

  • I'm sick everyday at 11am, 4pm, and 11pm. I've never heard of such clockwork morning/all day sickness, but the OB said it's completely normal (I asked at my confirmation appointment, along with 9371193 questions).
Night sickness is the worst for me though. I'm up every hour. No vomiting, but I have to walk around and splash cold water on my face to calm my stomach. I'm considering picking up Unisom at the store, so I can try to sleep through the night.

@christac1010 you can ask your ob about diclegis. It's pretty awesome.
  • I jinxed myself. I'm 6+2 and have already lost 4lbs. Can't eat. Can't drink. Luckily, I called my OB just before they closed and got back on the meds I had with dd.

I've been nauseous off and on since 4 weeks, but yesterday at 6w1d, I vomited for the first time just before a 10 hour day at work...ugh!

Unfortunately that was just the beginning - I woke up at 1AM and lost everything in my stomach :(

I'm trying to think of this as a positive thing since I did not throw up at all with my pregnancy last year....but it's hard to be upbeat when I'm so afraid to eat anything due to the ongoing nausea...

ETA: I still have Unisom and B6 from my first pregnancy...but I am trying so hard to not take anything unneeded this time...we'll see how long that lasts!!

  • So... when should I start to worry about the severity of morning sickness? I am down to basically one meal a day now.  A sandwich takes me two sittings to eat if I want to kept it down. My stomach hurts all the time. I'm managing about one bottle of water and one glass of ginger ale a day as far as fluids. I was hoping to just soldier on until my first doctor's visit on the 24th but every day that goes by and I feel worse that feels farther away. Any STM with advice about when to call the doc?

I don't know if it will help but when I get super nauseous I find that mint really helps me, I usually chew gum to help distract me. Also there is a water infusion called MetroMint that you can usually find in the natural food section water bottles, it is a mint infused water peppermint, spearmint etc. and they have flavored ones as well That really helped me when I felt I couldn't drink anything else. It was calimg to my stomach and its just water so it kept me hydrated as well. They also have preggo pops at babies'r'us and motherhood maternity stores that a lot of people swear by as well.

Ftm here but have you tried unisom and b6? That'll be their first step anyway (or the script Diclegis, which is the same thing) if you've tried that and you're still feeling awful just call your doc now! Late last week the unisom-b6 combo stopped working for me, I'm on Zofran now. I've lost at least 5lbs and my eating is garbage but my doc says as long as I'm hydrated and taking my prenatals it's fine for first tri

So today I could just cry. 7 weeks today had nausea for a week and a few days but it's getting worse by the day. I have only been sick a couple of times but the nausea is awful and unrelenting it's getting in the way of day to day capability and eating is torture and so slow. I have epilepsy which I take medication for and have a big dose of folic acid to be safe and trying to face them and hope they stay down is getting terrible.
Sorry just needed to let out some frustration.
  • @BAJDesigns I would call your doctor and let them know how you're feeling.  Like @TinaBelcher said, they'll tell you to do Unisom and B6 first, but it would be good to get how you're feeling documented.  That way if the unisom/b6 doesn't work they can move you to the next step.  Hopefully that way you'll find relief faster.  I was sick with DS and called before my first appointment because I was so miserable.  This time as soon as I started feeling sick I called.  It's not worth toughing it out, especially if you're having trouble getting fluids down.  Hope you get some relief!

  • Thanks guys! I called my OB first thing this morning and they had me go to my GP. Turns out I was pretty badly dehydrated. So a diclegis script and two bags of IV fluids later, here we are! Hoping to get some relief and keep some more food and water down tonight and tomorrow.

@TinaBelcher @BAJDesigns I think we're all in the same boat.  I started crying to my husband on Saturday night since I was so tired, nauseous, and hangry.  I was like, "I'm not strong enough to do thissssss.  How can anyone live this way?"  Poor guy just told me I was pretty and that I'm doing great, which I resented.

I'm down 7 pounds now, which is cool I guess (HA) but not the direction the scale should be moving in! Zofran is working wayyy better for me than the unisom/b6 was.

Eta the weight thing was a joke, just making sure ........

How do you ladies have the energy to be awake?  I haven't kept anything down today except a couple sips of water and I feel like a zombie.  I also seriously resent my cousins who never had morning sickness with any of their pregnancies.
  • @aishmc I don't, I'm a zombie. Up now at 2am thanks to ms waking me out of my sleep and omg  :s I have no clue how to survive this!
  • How do you guys deal with getting sick in public? I've only vomited a handful of times, but I feel so embarrassed any time I'm walking down the street in public and suddenly am hit with dry heaves. People turn and look, kind of repulsed, and I can only assume they think I'm hungover to hell and back. Seabands, ginger drops, and vitamin B candies seem to no longer be cutting it :|
