I don't know what half of the acronyms on this board are, and yes I've been to the page where it lists them all but I don't care enough.  I just make up my own meaning if I can't figure it out lol
I'm right there with you. I was posting in something I shouldn't have because I didn't know what PGAL meant. Whoopsie.
PGAL is Penis Girls All Love right?? Lol
It stands for Pregnant After a Loss. Which wouldn't have been too hard to deduce by reading a few posts.
Man couldn't of it meant something less devestating? Now I look like an asshole

edit - I am sorry by the way, I didn't read any of the posts there - never meant to be insensitive.

  • It hasn't truly hit me yet that I'm pregnant. FTM, and I KNOW I'm pregnant--all the symptoms, pictures from the 8 week ultrasound, the belly blump, hearing the heartbeat on the doppler every week, registry, etc. But even after almost 19 weeks it still hasn't actually sunk in that in only about 4 months (not long!) I'll have a 7-10lb screaming alien coming out between my legs and *BAM* I'll be a mom. No one knows this yet I just play along with everyone else because clearly it's a reality for them already!

Because of this, I think PGAL should be on the acronym list. Is there a way to ask for that to happen? It took weeks before I knew what it meant, and I think most folks would be sensitive to it if it was easy to get at that info.

Also, MFM isn't on the list, so in my head when I read it it stands for m-f'ing midwife. You gals who are making up wacky meanings aren't alone :)

  • I'm so with everyone not wanting to talk about being pregnant all the time. Sometimes, sure, like with good friends or family members, or even co-workers I'm also friends with. But for the most part, just chill. I know people, co-workers in particular, are just trying to be nice and make conversation, but what's going on with my body and/or the details of how I plan to run my family...yeah no. You don't need to bring it up before every meeting in your fake-friendly sing-song voice, and especially don't bring up your own experiences because I do not GAF about it nor do I want to picture your precious lady flower ever, under any circumstances, and I don't want to hear your opinion on how ca-RA-zy you think doulas or home births are, you cigarette-smoke-stankin-ass demon woman who was spawned from the devil's taint itself.

What I'm saying is, thanks but don't. Especially if you're that one lady from work.

haha @mommymaggieh - I actually knew it stood for Maternal Fetal Medicine (only because I now go to one), but I still read it in my head as "my f'ing mother".

edited cuz of my prego brain.

As a FTM, I really didn't like people telling me "Happy Mother's Day" and I still don't like when my friends or coworkers call me mom, momma, etc.  It's just weird and awkward.  I told my DH this and he said I couldn't call him daddy, that our LO will call him dad and I would be called mum, but he wouldn't refer to me as mommy or mummy.  Nicknames are weird.
My husband and I said the same thing - we were not going to call each other any variation of "Mommy" or "Daddy".  But it's reaaaaalllly difficult not to when you're talking to your toddler.  I never address my husband as any variant of "dad", but I definitely say things like "Daddy will get you a glass of water" when I'm talking to my son.  It probably wouldn't be difficult to say "your daddy," but "daddy" just slips out most of the time.
  • I am with all of you who are over the pregnancy conversation.  It's all day, every day at work because each person that comes on shift starts it up again.

I, on the other hand, don't care if people call me mama  (it's actually what my boss has called me since before my pregnancy as a kind of nickname.) Mommy would be wierd.

My confession is that I am terrified of Labor... I have like a vasovagal reaction if I think about it too much...  not that I've actually gotten to the point of fainting.  But seriously. Terrified.

  • Confession.  And I'm so scared I'll get flamed for this.  I count calories now that I'm pregnant.  My doc said I needed an extra 300 - 350 calories a day for the baby.  So I've been doing exactly that, just adding 300 to what my daily intake should be. On weekends, I add 350.  My friends who are moms side eye me and tell me I can eat whatever I want... but I'm not that young anymore, and know that what I put on during this pregnancy, I will also have to lose later on.  I want to be healthy, I want this baby to be healthy---but I'm also soooooo scared to not be able to lose what I gain.  :(
  • @annabenanna - That's commendable, not flammable lol. I've been counting calories for years, but I've been more lax than I'd like to admit since I've been pregnant. :/

  • Thanks @CopperBoom86 , it's just that I've only calorie counted when I was trying to lose weight before.  So in my head calorie counting = trying to lose weight.  I ought to change my mindset!
  • @annabenanna - I think most people associate it with weight loss, but for some (like me), it's essential for weight maintenance, as well. And weight maintenance is pretty important during pregnancy!

  • @annabenanna I calorie count too. I was told not to add the extra calories, but I still count. I have to everyday because if I don't, I over or under eat by A LOT. I'm honestly clueless oas to how people get by without doing it. So yeah, I did it when I was losing weight, but for me it's a normal part of my daily routine and my weight maintenance and it never occurred to me to stop doing it once pregnant.

  • Now I don't feel so alone thanks to you guys @CopperBoom86 and @krzyriver .  I find it also super helpful to see how little calories veggies have or fruits.... and how much sodium a little tiny bag of cheetos has.  I feel like I make wiser food choices because I can see it!
  • @annabenanna, add me to the calorie trackers.  I used the myfitnesspal app before I got pregnant and just continued to use it once I get pregnant.  I just switched it from "lose weight" to "maintain" and in the third trimester, I'll switch it to "gain 1 lb a week".  I don't freak out if I go over, but it definitely helps me see what nutrients I'm missing and what I'm getting too much of.  My mom and sister both gained a lot of weight with pregnancy and they still struggle.  Keeping track of my calories makes me worry less about that struggle.

@TNlove1027 I hear ya! It still feels so surreal to me! It's a little more real now that we had our A/S and know it's a boy but still. Always seems to good to be true.

  • oh that's awesome @ignoscemihi ,  It just really helps doesn't it?  To see it visually.
  • My confession goes along with a lot of the others. This is my third and I'm having trouble getting excited about this pregnancy. I'm also concerned with gaining too much. I'm already overweight and I'm trying to stay active and eat well. I'm loosely calorie counting as well.

Also, I'm expecting my third boy and the next stranger to ask me if I'm disappointed or express sympathy will get an earful.

  • @annabenanna Absolutely.  They even have little pie charts to show where your calories are coming from.  Really useful, especially since I'm a vegetarian and am sometimes light on protein.
  • My FI asks me every single day "How's the nubbins today?". It's sweet I get why he's asking but every day I just say ummm I guess she's fine? And he's like well sheesh excuse me for asking. I mean sure she's starting to move a TON now which is cool but what the hell am I supposed to say?! "Oh she's doing great, been bouncing off my bladder today. She may have taken a nap I think from 3-5. Maybe after that she took some sips of amniotic fluid!"

I mean freaking Christ on a cracker!

That cracked me up. Sips of amniotic fluid after a tough day of growing!

I was literally laughing thinking to myself, boy preggo Brian is horrible I don't even think right half the time and am becoming illiterate in my own language!  :D

  • Isn't there a book called "Toddlers Are Assholes"? Today was a day I could've used that book. And a large glass of wine. Or vodka.
  • I have to get my last two wisdom teeth pulled today (happy Friday the 13th to me).

I confess I plan to take the pain meds.
I'm surprised your dentist allowed this. Mine wants baby out before they even think about taking my wisdom teeth. I hope you get the good meds.

@bamacoop Ugh, me too. I hate when people ask me about my pregnancy, which is probably the other big reason I'm bored with preggo talk.

I actually do think about my pregnancy every moment of every day and it causes a lot of stress. So I want people to talk to me about something else so that I can be a normal person for 5 seconds instead of "the pregnant lady."
((((hugs))))) I'm sorry about your stresses. I agree with you to a certain extend. Its really hard when you are pregnant because sometimes folks forget  you are a person and you are still a person even though you are gestating.

  • @PrimRoseMama I got my first two pulled in the first trimester, and I do not recommend that to anybody EVER. Already being nauseous followed by swallowing blood and being sick from pain meds... it was awful. I preferred the pain over the sickness.
They allowed it because I was in such pain from the first two they figured keeping the teeth in would be doing more harm than the procedure and recovery would. They used local anesthetics and got it handled. Other than nausea, it was pretty much a cake walk. I have heard wisdom teeth horror stories, but it just really isn't that bad (or isn't for me at least).
They gave me Norcos yesterday, I took one and it made me feel really sick so I'm just doing Tylenol as needed. My teeth hurt way worse before they got pulled anyway so it's not like I'm not used to this.

  • @PrimRoseMama I feel pretty good right now thank you! Even already eating semi-solids =)

  • @SuperNerd42 - ^this. when people start talking about "once baby gets here" I almost break into a cold sweat. I don't think I'm *quite* in denial about being pregnant, but I have SO MUCH other stuff going on that I'm pretty disconnected from this pregnancy. Plus I am deeply not looking forward to lack of sleep, and doing that with a toddler this time. So...I'm just kind of choosing to ignore it for now.
  • @SuperNerd42 I am so much happier with these gaping holes in my gums than I was with the teeth! Haha On the up and up, one or two more days and I'll be all better :)
Also, I had a med free birth with DD, I too can compare the pain levels, but labor still takes the cake for me... surviving that sure has made me a LOT tougher to other pain though!

And I can relate to forgetting there is a BABY in me. It's kind of "out of sight out of mind" though, especially since I have 3 other kids running about taking up all my attention for now.
  • @PrimRoseMama Thank you. Yeah, it's tough sometimes when people forget that you're still a valid person and that it's not all about the baby. I joke with my husband that some days I just feel like an incubator, not a woman.

@AllyTheKid Getting teeth pulled sucks! I hope you feel better.

    *Possible Trigger Warning*
@SuperNerd42 I have a hard time realizing there's an actual baby in there. I don't know if it's because I've had multiple losses or if it's because I just haven't had a baby yet, but pregnant doesn't equal baby in my mind. So sometimes I realize he/she is actually alive in there and I freak out at how cool that is!! Lol
