What Baby Gear Do You Hate?

Seventh Day diapers. I got them for a good deal at target but I haven't even used them yet and I hate them. They feel like paper and aren't thick enough to absorb well, and now I'm pissed that I spent money on them. DD's little butt is sensitive with cloth-like disposables, I seriously doubt she will tolerate those shitty things.

The damn sleep gowns that are suppose to be awesome give me anxiety because they are such a pain in the ass to get on . The elastic is not stretchy enough or something.

Huggies Lil Snugglers diapers... I hate them! I usually use Pampers Swaddlers but received a small pack of the Huggies as a gift so I was using them. Every single time he has been in them, the pee SOMEHOW goes up the sides of his onesie in the front and back. Wtf?!

Ugh, we recieved several packages of Huggies! DS is too slim for them. He hasn't leaked in them yet, but they just fit awkwardly and are a pain to put on. I also dislike Huggies wipes.

@missingchampagne. I hate huggies diapers too. I swear he would pee one time in a fresh diaper and I could smell the urine! I use Pampers swaddlers and those work great so far.

Lol. I hate pampers diapers because of the stupid mesh. It's sticks to his butt even if there wasn't any poop. They also make him break out. Meshed pads always did this to me (no pun intended because "always" is the brand that breaks me out)
Also, I agree with all you all that baby clothes are stupid. He's outgrown the newborn and 0-3 month clothes in height, he's almost outgrown the 3 month in height (this kid has a crazy long torso like his father. Example: Daddy is three inches taller than me, but his legs are shorter and I also am long torsoed... So that just tells you! Yikes!). But they swallow him! I can't go to the 3-6month stuff. I just can't. Then you could put two of him in them!

Seventh generation diapers. They're supposed to be chemical free or some bullshit but they feel like printer paper. I wouldn't want them rubbing against my ass so I haven't bothered using them...maybe they'll work in a pinch.

I agree about the Huggies!! We received a few boxes as gifts and started out using those...pees and poops leak almost every other time! As first time parents we just assumed we were doing something wrong with the diapers lol But now we are into the pampers and they fit her so much better and hold everything in!

OMG this. Could have written this myself lol. I do find it depends on baby's shape as to whether huggies or pampers fit best. We are doing cloth but at night (because he's still a bit small and it leads to some leaks if left too long in cloth), we use huggies.

Ditto on the Huggies diapers. At this age, they just don't fit right and the only messes we have had have been with the Huggies diapers. However, when my other babies got older (bigger) the Huggies brand fit so much better.

Our favorite diapers used to be Luvs...they were the only ones we didn't have accidents with. This time around, though, I am discovering that any store brand (Up&Up, Parent's Choice, etc) are working just as well and are cheaper, too!

I hate my high chair from DD1. It's a Fisher Price Space Saver and some dingbat designed it so that the straps are not removable to wash without unscrewing things and basically disassembling the chair (it has since been redesigned and the new one looks better). I'm hoping to find a replacement this garage sale season.

I don't hate any baby products yet. I just have a ton of crap that I don't use.

Like our Halo Bassinest - Baby won't sleep in it. At least, not yet. I like the concept, but right now, it's useless. She either sleeps on me, or in the bed on one of our fancy, firm, memory foam pillows (This surprisingly works really well.)

Mamaroo - Again, I love the concept, but baby just wants to be held by a real human 24/7.

First Years Bottle Warmer / Night Cravings (with bottle cooler) - The measurements for adding water to the steamer to warm the bottles isn't perfect, so bottles end up cold or scalding. Now, instead of pre making the formula bottles and storing them in the fridge, we just add room temp bottled water to the dry mix when we need it. It works well and it's much faster.

Baby bath tub - it's easier just to wash her in the kitchen sink.

Mittens, hats, socks - they don't stay on. And we live in Arizona. Basically useless.

My car seat, an Evenflo, is becoming something I hate. It's rear facing so I can't see him, and I constantly put my hand back to find he has slumped over... SO dangerous! I found him like this today when I got out of the car. This can restrict his airway and I'm not sure how to fix it?

@Missingchampagne yikes! Is there something underneath him? It looks like the shoulder straps are being pulled to the sides. Try making sure that the chest buckle is up higher- at least nipple height.

Yeah by the time I got home they were like that :-/ Nothing under him. It doesn't seem like it's reclined enough to prevent this, among maybe being a generally poor design.

Does it come with an infant insert? If not, you can buy inserts. People say you shouldn't put anything between the baby and the car seat, and I agree. But at this age, I think he needs more support.

There is something seriously wrong here. This position should not be possible. Is there a level-line on the seat/base to show how reclined the seat needs to be? My seat base has a"foot" that can be adjusted to get a proper angle. In some vehicle/seat combos a pool noodle might need to be used to get a proper install. Also, it's hard to tell why from this angle but the straps do not look right either. When he's sitting properly are the straps at or just below his shoulder height? I already had to move R's up from the lowest setting. Is he strapped in tight enough that the strap passes the "pinch test"?

I would find a car seat check station in your area and stop by to see if they can help you figure out what the deal is. That's definitely an issue!

The straps are way too loose as they are falling off his shoulder and the chest plate needs to be over his breastbone and it'll keep in back in the seat much much better.
I fit a finger between the strap and her chest when I buckle LO in and it keeps her in place pretty well however she can't support her neck well yet and when she falls asleep in her car seat her head tilts to the left or right pretty bad

I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 but my husband's car has the base installed. An extra base for my car costs $90 and I really don't want to pay that! So I have found that I can use a rolled towel to adjust the level/recline of the seat.

I'm unfamiliar with the design of the Even Flo and if they have level indicators on the sides like the Keyfit 30.

I'd say the straps weren't tight enough and you need to roll some towels around him on either side to keep his head from rolling to one side or the other.

I have this seat and don't have this problem. I agree that you need to fix the straps. Also double check that the base is installed correctly and the indicator on the base is green.

Ditto PPs. There is something seriously wrong here. Others had good suggestions. A week or so ago, our fire station had a free car seat check in where you could come and they would make sure they were installed correctly. See if they offer that in your area.

I have a mirror that attaches to the head rest on the back of the seat so you can see the baby. You should be able to find one at any baby store.

I won't repeat some of the things already said because it's good. You can also join the "Car Seat for the Littles" FB group, not their page, and ask for help. To get someone local to help you check out safekids.org. They are nationally certified. Sometimes police and fire stations are not as knowledgable if they aren't certifed and can give bad info. Some are though.

Oh my. On top of echoing what everyone else has said, baby is going to need to be rear facing for the next 2 years minimum so it's going to be vital that you find something that works for you guys to be able to keep her that way (it's not going to be this seat the whole time, I'm sure). The current position should not be possible. Among other things, I think the shoulder strap level is too low and needs to be adjusted to at or just below his shoulder level (baby is too tall for current setting), those straps shouldn't be able to move to the side that far. Chest clip needs to go higher. Make sure baby's bottom is far back into the seat. We have outgrown the insert part that supports the tiny babies in our seat. We still haven't had slumping issues. Not sure how big your LO is. Can you take a better picture of your car seat set up and of baby in it, like straight on?

Yes, thank you (everybody) ... The front seat passenger can't be even the slightest bit reclined or it shoves the car seat into a different position. I also had to put a wedge under the base to make it angle correctly, but he's not flying forward anymore thank God.
