Yeah, @AlexLindzz I started trying to list things at first and quickly realized I wouldn't be able to. The Supreme Court nominations would probably be the most lasting damage he would do though, I think. Probably. Hopefully.
uh....my UO is that I hate when people talk about politics. Vote what you want, but don't talk about it. Ever. There's already enough TV and social media coverage, we don't need to hear any of that stuff any more. I'm going back to talking about cute baby stuff now
I very much agree with this. And probably my biggest UO ever is that I will be voting Trump. I'm not going to change anyone's mind and no one is going to change mine. So that's the end of my politics talk.
I was on the sex/gender/meh call it what you want bandwagon until my cousin came out as trans several years ago. She's struggled with depression, identity issues, and even suicide attempts her whole life until finally being able to transition to be true to herself. And now that she's vanquished many of her inner demons she is at risk of being bullied, harassed, or worse bc she's still pretty obviously trans female.
Words don't matter if you're in the lucky majority, but they can be vitally important if you're not so lucky. I try to be precise whenever possible since you never know who you could be speaking to and to them it might mean the world.
I'll take Hillary over Trump every day. DH and I were very interested in Michael Bloomberg running on the Independent ticket, and were severely disappointed when studies proved him running would end up helping Trump. If/when Trump gets the republican nom, we'll both be voting Democrat regardless of who the candidate is. It's a dark time in this country.
So my UO is that I hate the two party system in America. I also hate people who don't vote. Educate yourself and effing vote.

From my uneducated opinion, Trump is going to be your worst option. Like, the worst. I don't get to vote in your election, so I don't get a say. But it looks like a bad idea from over here.
As far as the sex vs gender thing, I definitely think words cause damage, and using the right one is important. But I also think that harping on it doesn't usually help the situation. Kindly explaining, and assuming people don't know, will probably make more changes in our society than harping on it.
As far as politics, I think it's so important to talk about issues. I am very, very pro Bernie, and am so excited to have a candidate who will work towards actual change - especially change in how elections work here in America. If he doesn't get the nomination, I will do what I need to do to try and keep Trump from winning, but for now I am hopeful that Bernie call pull it out.
Also so on the flip side a couple of my husband's friends are huge Bernie supporters but have said that if he doesn't win the primary they would consider voting for Trump

It's pretty inevitable to bring up politics considering it's an election year and probably the wackiest one yet. We'd be constantly repeating ourselves if we just talked about babies for 9 months.

To clarify, I think that's a very privileged stance to take. Like the kind of shit Susan Sarandon is saying. She's too rich to really be affected by a Trump presidency but the rest of us in the real world have a lot to lose. This is another thing that makes Bernie supporters look out of touch. Btw, would love to vote for Bernie in the general (because despite his la k of concrete plans, I like his ideas), but if that's not possible I will not have a spiteful tantrum. I'll vote for Hilary (who really is the most qualified).

In my experience, the men have been generally more gentle and understanding than the women care providers I've had. It feels like there's a bit of a 'suck it up' mentality from a lot of the female providers I've seen. But, of course, it's a limited sample. I did specifically request a male OB this time around. Unfortunately he looks like he's twelve and all the people I've spoken to who have met him - my first appointment is next month - have said something along the lines of "Awww, he was so sweet" so I'm thinking he might be a bit fluffier than I like my providers to be.

I loved my first OB who was a male. He actually had delivered me, my mother loved him and I decided to go with him. He greeted me every appointment with "Hello, love!" And a hug. His dr coat always had makeup on the shoulder. I truly miss him.

YES! I adore the OB who delivered my daughter and much refer the males in the current practice I go to. I definitely feel the I've women I've seen are more stiff. The men have been able to have a good sense of humor and feel more...real. If that makes any sense.
I'm into politics too. I'm a civil rights lawyer and it's just a big part of my world.
Im a Bernie supporter but not in the Bernie or Bust camp. I understand it philosophically but thinks it's a bad move practically. I'll vote for Hil in the general because I think she will prove to be the most effective candidate but there is a lot about her history and politics and influences that don't sit will with me.
@whaat I agree with you. I think these past eight years have been very interesting but based on what's important to me, good for us. But there is clearly major discontent that has been ignored and has breed intense hate. Hence, a base for trump. And although I disagree with everything in that camp, I think we better start paying attention to the parts of our nation that feel marginalized so that we don't create a reign of fascism. That's the only thing I think will "screw" us.
This is a great summary of my own views. Most people shake their heads and say "HOW did Trump rise to power?" I see it differently: how has it taken this long for marginalized and pissed off people to rally behind a socialist who plays off fear and anger? We should feel shaken and we shouldn't forget about this even after Hilary's elected in November.
On the subject of Hilary vs Bernie, I recently heard Gloria Stienem comment that "Bernie is diagnostic while Hilary is curative"- he is brilliant at diagnosing our nation's ills, but she has more practical and experienced plans for fixing them. That idea resonated with me.

@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt me too! And old ones to boot. I think their experience grounds them and by connection grounds me. My last OB was 75 when he retired and forced me to switch. I transferred to another practice lead by a 70yo and his son which has 3 midwives they work with. This is just my experience but my OBs have been some of the most influential people in my life. I'm serious! When I was 16 I had a pregnancy scare. The condom broke and, well, you know. I called my pediatrician who told me she was a pediatrician because she didn't want to deal with irresponsible teenagers and hung up on me. So then I had to tell my mother, deal lord, and she took me to the 75 y/o. The man stood on his desk and applauded me. He said that if every 16 yo that had this experience came to him for the day after pill and subsequent birth control, things would be a lot different. Then he proceeded to give me a 10 pack of day after pills and told me to save them for my friends. This was back in the day mind you before plan B and access to this type of contraceptives. He was the man. Love that guy.
I don't like when people refer to their child as a "mini-me." Feels to me like you've already gotten everything set up for them. I am so excited to watch our baby's personality and preferences emerge, even if it looks like my face stamped onto baby's. (This coming from a woman who has her father's face stamped on her.)
You know what's more annoying? When someone calls your child their mini-me. My stupid SIL always says that about my DD. Umm no b*tch, she's nothing like you. She's way smarted and cuter.

@Thewizardofrhythm I'm about 50/50 whether I want to go into family medicine or OB/Gyn. Regardless of which I pick, I *will* be like that doctor, though. If a teen comes to me for sex or contraception counselling, or a pregnancy or STI scare, that teen will be welcomed, praised up and down for being responsible by seeking me out, and given as many resources as possible to ensure safe, positive experiences. I'm a big believer in treating sex as a normal part of the human experience, not a dirty secret, and so I'll be transferring that belief into my practice. I love that you had such a good experience with that OB!

@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt meh, I'm a firm believer in choosing a provider based on who they are as an individual. My last gyn was male and he was a moron. And lazy. I had to remind him to do breast exams at my annuals. And because I know how to do a bimanual exam, I know that there was NO way he was doing it correctly. My current OB is a woman and she's amazing. Super thorough, takes a ton of time with me, and is incredibly nice. Actually sometimes I think she's a little too nice (like you, I don't like a lot of fluff, I'd rather someone who gave it to me straight).
I do do agree with you that I lament men moving away from certain specialties, but pediatrics is where I feel this the most. We only have a few male docs at my practice and they're all older and approaching retirement. I think, for boys especially, it's important to at least have the option of a male provider.
My UO, which is probably a PO, is that I wish the BGs would go away. We're adults. We can handle an internet forum. Is some oversight necessary, probably, but this whole "Oh we see so and so is talking bad about the BGs we must BAN them and close the thread immediately" is getting old. I guess that makes 10 closed threads now...I barely post on the public boards any more because this has gotten out of hand.

Not unpopular. That was why having mods worked so well, because they actually knew the board and knew the will of the majority. When my old BMB had its mass exodus I didn't really care all that much and just kind of went with them because I wanted to stay with them. But seeing how it is now is really eye-opening.
Being Canadian, I honestly don't get the American electoral system. Like, it's been two years of these people campaigning, and t election is still months away? Not to mention from what I've heard about them, I don't know of there's even a "good" choice to make.
And for the record, for both the last provincial as well as the federal election here, I am completely appalled with how the voting went. But everyone's perception of the lesser evil is different. Suppose we should feel lucky to live in countries where we do get a say?

Lurking from july, watch out what you say about the BGs, they were deleting threads and banning users left and right last week. I think we had 10 bans in one day, many from what was said in a private group that "isn't moderated".
Question as someone who is relatively new here. What generally happens when someone gets banned? Does everyone have a secondary app they go to? Or do they create another username and come back? or just *poof* gone forever and the rest of us never know about the healthy baby they did or didn't have?
A lot of people create new usernames and come back. But if you're caught or banned again, the bump gods can block/ban your IP address. Or at least that's how it used to work
