    1) This would go over better in your January BMB.
    2) What's wrong with FB? If you're paranoid about using your real profile, make a fake one. 
    3) Be prepared for people to not join it NOW but join later down the road when they're more comfortable with sharing personal info with Internet strangers. You'll form bonds with these ladies over the next few months and they're more likely to join a fb group then.
