We recently came across the name Coen (pronounced Co-en)in a baby names book and SO and I both kind of like it. Has anyone heard this boy name before? Thoughts?
Dislike. It's pronounced the same as Cohen which is a whole bag of issues. As a non surname, it's a diminutive of Koenrad (dutch form of Conrad), and Koen would be pronounced like coon, which has other terrible implications in the states.
Coen seems like a made up spelling of Cohen. As mentioned above, Cohen has some baggage. It is a Jewish surname that has significant religious meaning. It has been compared to a non-christian naming their son Jesus or a non-muslim naming their child Mohammed. I would avoid it.
What about Connor, Conrad, Colin? Or Abraham, Levi, Ari?

I also just see "Cone" when I look at this. The name Cohen seems nice but it does offend a whole lot of people. Adding to pp suggestions, how about Cory, Corin, Corbin, Henry, Henrik, or Hank.
Really? What area do you live in? I'm in WI and have not met any Cohen's/Coen's.
I'm in NE Wisconsin and I know a Cohen. He may be a transplant, tho. Also, I find the Coen spelling really clunky and unattractive. My assumption would be that you didn't know how to spell, not that it's a legit spelling related to something. It's also not interesting enough for me to try and Google later, to learn that it is indeed a known spelling, so I would continue my interactions with this person thinking his parents can't spell or spell cre8tively
Re: Coen
