@DataJane honestly I think of it as both. I have a nephew with that name, but it's a family name (my step-brother's mom's maiden name was Avery) which is why I think it can go either way.
Oh good, the name thread! My RCS is scheduled in 7 weeks and we still haven't decided.
When you guys hear Avery do you automatically think girl or boy or assume it could be either? I think of it as a boy's name since all the Avery's I've met are male but I was surprised to see it was #16 last year for girls and in the 180's for boys.
@DataJane I personally far prefer it for a boy, although I don't automatically think of one sex over the other when I hear it since I know more and more girls are being name Avery. It is a masculine name, though.
@onesassybishh I LOVE Lilliana, and all nicknames associated with it. I really dislike Peyton in general, mostly because it sounds trendy and like the snobby girls in the area I grew up in. Totally a personal opinion there. I DO really like Peyton Manning as a quarterback, but that doesn't help much with a girl's name.
@DataJane When I hear Avery, I automatically assume girl. But if I meet a little boy named Avery, I don't side eye it. I only knew one Avery, and that was ten years ago. Since then, all of the Avery's that I know, are girls....and I know a lot of them.

I love Avery for either. My husband and I also love any name that goes both ways. Maybe I should have saved that comment for the UO thread. Gender neutral names cause all kinds of havoc on the name board.

Because the vast majority of the time they're not gender neutral. They are male/masculine names that are now being used for girls (with occasional spelling changes to make them more "feminine"). name your kid whatever you want (universal "you"), but stop trying to say that the traditional male name is now "gender neutral".

No idea why because I've never known an Avery of either sex but I personally think of it as a girls name.
DD is Chloe and DS is Elliot. Both with family related middle names.
We had the name Paige Roseanne pretty much picked out. Rose just because we like it/it's my favourite flower and Anne because we both have people with variations of the name Anne in our families. DH is called Armando but neither of us like Spanish names, since baby is a girl I asked if he wouldn't like Amanda for a middle name 'kind of' after him.
@kim1989 I think both are pretty... what were your husband's thoughts on Amanda? Personally I like Roseanne more, but if DH really liked the idea of her being named after him then go with that one...

He likes the idea but doesn't seem like he minds that much either way. I'll definitely have to bring it up again to get a better answer off him
Elisabeth Marie my fiance likes which is a family name for him but I also have a living aunt named Elisabeth which seems too strange to me since we aren't close or anything. He also likes Krystal joy but I don't care for the name Krystal either. My other girls are named ariana and aniyah. If anyone has suggestions I would be happy to hear them! We're running out of time lol
We're almost down to the wire...I'm 34 weeks and still have not picked a name! We're having a baby boy and middle name is going to be Robert. For first names we have Brennen, Brandt, and Cameron on the list. Any thoughts? I'd love to hear opinions and/or other suggestions! Thanks!
Of the 3, Cameron is my favorite. I may be partial though because it was a top pick for my little guy. Brennen is just OK. I have friends with that last name so to me it's not really a "first name", though it's not bad. I don't like Brandt, just not my style.
Brennan could be confused by people as 'Brendan' a bit too easily. Brandt would easily be confused as 'Grant'. Cameron is hard to confuse, I would go with that.
My husband and I have been bad and only have talked about names 3 or so times, baby comes in 5 weeks. One of my favorites is Alexander middle name would be Blake after my husband's middle name. My problem is my nephew is Mason Aleksander, I dont know of that is too close and will cause a problem. We would most likely call him Alex.

I don't see this being an issue at all... If you're really concerned you could always ask if it'd be okay... But the fact that it's your nephews middle name... I don't think it matters much... I'd be flattered actually
Picking names is stressful, I guess that's why we have been putting it off for so long. Doesn't help I have such a huge family and my husband is a teacher. Thanks for the input.
Hello ladies, we have officially picked the name Claudia Josephine for our little miss. Claudia is my husbands grandmother's first name and Josephine is my great-grandmothers middle name. The only issue I am having is trying to decide a nickname. My mother has started referring to her as Jojo but I'm not sure if I really like that. Any ideas?
@jordibarber I'm not sure what nickname you could use for Claudia, but if you're basing it off of her middle name I do think Jojo is cute. Following that same train of thought, you could also go with Josie. There's the option abbreviate everything using her initials and call her CJ too.
@jordibarber my 2nd daughters name is Josephina and she has a ton of nicknames. (Assuming you will be going by her middle name since Jojo is what's on the table?) Jo, Jos, Josie, Jojo, Joey and Phina are all used on a regular basis in our household!
