Anyone spying on your registry

Hi ladies,
Now that we are nearing showers. I have to ask... is anyone checking their registry to see what they got so they don't go out and buy the item? My sister in law offered to give us their car seat and I went on to delete our carseat and someone purchased it for us! I was ecstatic. I didn't expect someone to purchase something like that, but we use our registry as our list of what we still need as well. We have been purchasing things and deleting them from the registry as we go. I get so excited when I see that something we actually need was purchased... I don't look to see who purchased the item.. but its so tempting.

Re: Anyone spying on your registry

  • I look, but so far just a boppy and blankets and stuff like that. We are waiting until after the shower to buy anything so I'm super ready for it to get here already. But I have a feeling we're going to be going out and buying 95% of the stuff on our registry cuz people will bring random gifts. But I get it and that's okay, surprises are fun.

  • I'm not planning to buy anything until my showers are over - had one last weekend and another in June. After last weekend, there are only a handful of must-have things left. Very thankful!
  • So far nothing has been purchased off my registry, but both my showers are in June so they're still pretty far away yet. I'm hoping we get the things we need but will be thankful for anything. I'm sure we'll get a lot of clothes but we plan to take them back so we'll have the money for the items we need. My cousin had a girl a couple years ago so she's giving us all her clothes. We'll be set in that area. We plan to wait and buy things until after the showers.
  • I do check occasionally. Nothing bought yet. Haha! My baby shower is June 18th, and we will be sending paper invites soon that will have registry info on it, so maybe around then some things will get bought! I also have people telling me what they will give me as hand me downs, so I don't have to put those on my registry. :)

  • I definitely am. The invitations just went out about a week ago, so there isn't too much activity yet. It's in June, so it leaves us plenty of time to purchase things after the shower.
  • I have, but I wish I hadn't. I like surprises and I ruined one for myself today.

We actually don't delete items from our registry when we purchase them. With our BRU registry, we get up to 10% cash back on items purchased off our registry, so we're trying to take advantage of those types of perks.

@WinnieLou82 I am such a planner, I wish I could wait but it was giving me too much anxiety. So I have basic needs stuff and a small list of what we need if it isn't purchased.

@JournoGrl23 We actually have 2 gender neutral diaper bags because one we picked out on the registry and someone sent us one in the mail but we love them dearly and decided to keep both... it didn't feel right to return it.We decided it might be nice to clean one and then use the other every now and then. My shower is in June but alot of people are either big planners or aren't attending the shower and have sent gifts.

@MamaKSquared I ruined a surprise for myself the first time I looked because I looked to see who bought us stuff... it was a cousin that was also having a shower and once she saw what I had purchased for her ( the day it arrived at her house) she canceled the order on the registry lol because those items still need to be purchased now. I felt horrible because we had spent 50 ( I have never met her) but she has spend like 150$ on us... guess we offended her... ever since then I won't look to see who got it.

My invites went out this week and i already received a few items in the mail! I check mine quite frequently too. I'm not ashamed. :)

  • I've been snooping.

    Sorry not sorry!

  • Oh for sure, but only because I am tweeking it and adding things. When my shower gets closer I am going to try really hard not to peek.

  • Guilty myself lol. My invites when out last week still nothing just the stuff our parents bought. I've been part of a mom swap on Facebook and actually taken off stuff even bigger ticket items. My outlook is yes it's a shower and u should put the stuff I want but if I find it 75% off retail price I'm going buy it. As someone said b4 I'll probably receive lots of clothes, going return some got my friends baby girl stuff. Rather have the cash for formula..

@lilpinky7878 I'm glad we are team green for that reason alone. I've had numerous friends tell me they wish they would of waited until after their shower to announce the sex because they just got so much clothes and not enough things they needed from their registry.

  • I've been on mine a lot, but I just made my target one a week ago. I'm also adding and taking things off, and the shower invites aren't going  out until this weekend. And I've bought a few things off my amazon one already. But I have a feeling it will be hard to stay off of it as I get closer to the shower!

I know the sex but refused to tell anyone other than DH and I's parents for this reason! We're doing a gender reveal at the shower. I still think we'll end up with a lot of clothes though.
  • I look around at my registry, usually early in the morning. Not that I am so anxious to see if anyone got anything for us yet but more for the fact of, am I going to need to save for this, or am I still going to have to get that. And I think that's pretty normal for a first time mama. Shower is on 6/4(only plan on having one of these), invitations went out last week. We'll be super appreciative for whatever we receive but seeing family and friends that we haven't seen in so long, that will see the look of joy on our face thanks to the little miracle inside me that we made, will probably be the best gift of all.
  • @Katm89 - Yikes! That is a little awkward. I didn't even have to look and see who purchased it. It was my diaper bag and I know DH got it for me.

  • My invites just went out and I took a peek this morning - soneone got us a little tub, some water toys and shampoo. Soap and stuff like that!! Omg I'm so excited!
  • My invites went out about two weeks ago. My shower is June 5. I spy daily! Most of the big things have already been purchased so that is nice.

  • FYI if you have things already you should be able to mark them as complete versus delete them. Some people will buy off registry if they think it's a great gift. For example a Rock and Play. If you have one mark it complete versus just leaving it completely off. You can also find Bumbo seats used for very cheap and they clean so easily. Let other people buy the other stuff you have to get used

  • I totally spy on my registry. I got married last summer and did it for that registry, too. I tell myself it's because I need to know if I have a package coming (in case of theft). But if I'm being real, it's because I just get excited and can't help myself! It's like searching for your Christmas presents as a kid.  :)
  • I was SO good about not looking at our wedding registry. I don't think I will have as much will power with this registry.

@BrunetteBabe722 I would totally do that!!!
  • I check mine regularly and I have been surprised at the lack of items purchased, especially given that my shower is this weekend. My SIL had her shower a month ago and I don't know who got her what, but I do know that everyone that came brought her a gift. Given the obvious family overlap, I'm hoping everyone is procrastinating and not going off registry!

Good thing I checked mine again today. The stroller I wanted is out of stock so I had to go and add a different one... There is a reason to keep checking!

  • @tmk0325 I have an Amazon registry and it's been annoying how often things become "unavailable." Mostly just the clothes, but once in a while a practical item as well.
  • @snaps816 I've had that happen too. Sometimes they also came back "available"...

  • Well, invites went out over the weekend, and I was just adding and deleting things again, and saw someone purchased bath items from our registry! Didn't think anyone would have gotten anything yet, the shower isn't until June 11, but it makes me more excited! I'm going to try to stay off of it after this week though. I think I'll go through both registries this weekend one final time and then be done editing so I hopefully won't know too much :)

Same here! Ours is 6/11 (co-ed bbq) but I've gotten items already when invites just went out last week! I thought I had more time to scrub and update my registry but I better get to it now.

@AliKay20 our shower is the same day- also co-ed
  • @misspuppychow a few guests spilled the beans and told me what they got off the registry and it was still on there when I peeked so, maybe people are looking at it but not getting it marked off at the register?

This happens a fair amount, in my experience. Or sometimes people buy things at a different store than the one where you're registered. It's annoying because then you end up with duplicates and have to return one.

Yeah, I think a lot of people (especially if they are new to the whole registry concept) will print off the registry, choose an item to buy, and then just check out like they do for their regular shopping and don't even think to have it scanned off the registry. Or it could be that your store's web platform is slow to update. In the end, you can return it all for store credit if you need to.
  • Yeahhhhh just went on to snoop and stuff was bought...shower not til 5/4

This is exactly why we didn't tell anyone that DD was a girl.  I didn't get a stitch of clothing, and I kinda liked it that way.  I'm pretty particular about clothes and wanted to be the one who picked and purchased everything.  Plus, I'm REALLY bad at faking that I like something when I really hate it lol.

misspuppychow Not much from my registries was purchased, either, and I had a wide variety of items at different price points to appease everyone.  A ton of people bought things from other stores that we didn't register for, and, not to sound ungrateful or greedy, but it was a huge pain in the tush because then I had to spend a ton of time schlepping my 36w pregnant self around returning things and purchasing the things that we registered for and actually needed.  Registries aren't just for fun people, they serve a purpose!!!  I could understand buying something from BRU if you don't have a BBB near you if it's on the registry.  But why would you go to Target or KMart, a store that I had never stepped foot in until I received gifts from there and the one near me is flippin' scary lol, it's just beyond my comprehension because it's not something I would do.  And some of the non-registry items didn't have gift receipts.  Uuuugh who does that?!?  If nothing else, I just give a gift card because I know how annoying it is to return crap that you don't want or need.  OK, end rant.  I feel like a brat for even typing this out, but honestly, registries exist for a reason.  Period.
