@st3lla : I was actually on the pill for about 11 years before TTC, and I also did great on it. Little did I know though that I should have been on it continuously. I didn't have any endo symptoms until some fairly odd/subtle ones in the last few months of me being on the pill, and wasn't officially diagnosed until my laparoscopy last July. I would have preferred not going back on any pill as I feel I've put enough hormones in my body to manage to get pregnant, but I just know it's not a great idea from an endo perspective.
@st3lla : yes, amazingly similar!! I've also been thinking the RE might be my best option (my OB seemed to catch on quickly on the endo piece when I was explaining to her my complicated history, but she's retiring as of July 1). I also feel like I want to have things in place to get treatments started ASAP if we need to go in that direction again for #2. But I keep on hoping we could conceive on our own...that'd be such a nice and normal experience compared to what we had this time around!
I have a condition that made it difficult to conceive. Although I did at one time have an IUD it was before I was formally diagnosed. We aren't planning on using any contraceptives after our little rainbow baby is born. I will however resume taking the natural fertility aid that I suspect helped us to conceive again when we feel ready to try again since we tried for over a year without any luck before I started taking the product. If I get pregnant again without needing to take the tablets-great!
Honestly, we're probably going with Natural Family Planning.
That is what we did last time and also will do this time. I found it really easy (there are some great books out there) and nursing delayed my cycle by 18 months. Plus you can chart with apps making it even easier and if you really want an added layer of protection can use OPK strips bought in bulk. Also, I would be thrilled with another baby or two in the future even though this is probably my last.
I also couldn't do condoms, @TXmamatobe I hate them and so does DH.
I don't plan on going on any BC. I wasn't even having a cycle before we got pregnant, so I feel like that may happen again. Either way, we've both talked about it and since it took us so long to get pregnant, we don't want me to be on any type of BC. We won't be trying right away, obviously, but our intention is to have our children around 2 years apart so... we will be NTNP pretty much.

Treatment: Clomid: 50mg, 100mg, 150mg - not successful and not monitored
Before the twins, I was a classic case of PCOS. I never had periods, unless I was taking BC pills. I used letrozole and an ovulation shot to get pregnant with the twins. Oddly enough, I got pregnant about 6 weeks after I completely weaned, which was 18months after they were born. I never thought I would get pregnant without reproductive endocrinology assistance, so this LO is such an unexpected blessing. DH is so ready to get a vasectomy. I would rather adopt than go through hyperemesis again. So I guess it's settled.

I had the gynefix. Hormone-free, and way smaller than regular IUDs. All my friends in Germany got it, too, and everyone was very happy with gynefix. Now, I have to come up with something different as it's not available yet in Australia. Sigh!!!!! But if you live anywhere where it's available, I highly recommend it.
We used NFP for three years before trying for #1 and again between #1 and trying for #2. Never had a problem. To be safe we use condoms during my fertile days. Not as fun, but babies are a lot of work, so we are ok with it!
Also, I didn't let my husband near me with that thing for 6 months after #1. If you are like me, you will have plenty of time to think about it
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had Implanon or Nexplanon. How was your experience? Any side effects? How long did you have it? Etc...
Haven't personally tried it, but my little sister was on it... And got pregnant! She is significantly overweight though, and many hormonal birth control methods have not been well-tested for women over 170 lbs.
I think we are going to go with a combination of condoms, pull out method, and charting combined while I'm BFing andthen later we'll do bc pills and condoms and charting. I can't be too careful b/c the doctor says that next time HELLPS can return even sooner and be worse. So we aren't planning on another child.
My OB is pushing the IUD pretty hard. Im not sure. We will probably have a second kid, and we'd like the separation between them to be 2-3yrs (somewhere in that neighborhood, depending how LO #1 goes). OB insists that its not hard to remove and its no biggy to remove, even so soon after implantation.
Im curious what others' experiences were with the IUDs? I love the idea of not having to remember a pill but it seems like a lot of fuss to just remove it a year or 2 (max) later

I had the Mirena for 4 years and LOVED IT. When I had it placed I did experience cramping and bleeding for about a week and a half. After that my period began tapering off and completely went away after 4 months. I never had any issues with it during the 4 years it was placed. Once we decided to TTGP I had it removed quick, easy, and painless during my pap appointment and we conceived about 4 months after it was removed. The only reason I'm not going back to it is because if we decide to have LO#2 it will hopefully be within the next 2 years. Just not sure if that's long enough to worry about birth control
I'm really worried about this, actually! I figure we are going to try again for a second, but I DO NOT want to get pregnant until I'm ready. We were lucky enough and got pg on the first try and they say that you should use protection before your first period because you can't really know when you begin to ovulate again.
So, I'm going to revive this thread because most of us will need to consider these decisions pretty soon at this point. I mentioned previously on this thread that DH and I have not used birth control for about 9 years (just pull out) because my body does not tolerate any hormonal birth control (I've tried practically every type on the market, and I always end up with some or all of the following symptoms: constant heavy bleeding, not just temporary spotting; continuous severe cramping; painful intercourse; weight gain.). I talked to my OB last week about my options after LO arrives, and she suggested Paragard, which is a completely non-hormonal IUD. I know a few of you mentioned having used IUDs in the past, but most of the posts I saw on here were people who used Mirena or a similar hormonal IUD. My doctor suggested trying either Paragard because it has no hormones or Mirena because of it low dosage of hormones, but I am hesitant to have a long-term hormonal device implanted in case I have reactions like I mentioned above and have to have it removed. I like the idea of not having periods (which is common after a while with Mirena), but I think I want to go the non-hormonal route. Have any of you used Paragard before? If so, would you recommend it? I was leaning toward tubal ligation because I am 99.99999% sure I don't want any more children, but I'm a little hesitant to close that door completely just yet.
Re: After baby birth control?
I think I'm going to need to go back to the fertility specialist after birth to get a clear picture of what my options are for BC and other treatments to prevent the endo from returning. My experience is that GPs don't know much about it which is why it often takes so long to see the right specialist and get diagnosed.
Best of luck!

I'm chuckling at how many people are hating on condoms in this thread - they're NBD to me at all and DH doesn't seem to mind them either.
