October 2016 Moms

Mother's Day!

For some of us, this weekend could be our first Mother's Day. What did you get?

FI sent me a beautiful message in a bottle to the office with the words "Mother, Passionate, Strong, Beautiful, Considerate" with a note in the bottle saying "your new child is sure to inherit your best traits! You are blessed to have a new baby and they are blessed to have you as a mother. Kadence is lucky to have you as her mother, love you forever - Signed FI" and some cookies because you know... sweet tooth.

Re: Mother's Day!

  • I'm not getting a thing.  I am driving a few hours by myself (and a dog and a cat) to surprise my mom for the weekend.  I don't even think it's crossed my DH's mind as it being a mother's day for me.  Also, mother's day is so totally made up (shouldn't every day be mother's day) and is celebrated in a completely different month in the UK, so half the family celebrates it in a different month.

  • I asked DH for a hotel room.  Alone.  No toddler. No DH. No animals.  Just me, room service, and a pool boy with virgin margaritas.

I'll probably get woken up at 6 am by my non-sleeping toddler and drowsily make myself breakfast.

My mom actually gets two Mother's day for this reason. She was born and raised in England and moved over here in her 20's. I always send her Flowers when the UK celebrates but dont go out of my way to see her that day.

I asked for a nice, fancy steak from our local butcher, crispy potatoes, and some sort of tasty vegetable for my Mother's Day breakfast. I'm really excited about it. I don't like traditional breakfast foods and I'm so pumped to stuff my face with a delicious meal that I don't have to cook while also wearing my pjs. This does mean that I will be watching the toddler but she's cool and it's worth it.

I would love it if DH acknowledged me on Sunday but I don't think he will. He's going to spend the day with his mom and I'm going south to spend the day with my mom. We're going to lunch at PF Changs (DH isn't a fan so I'm pretty excited!), then antiquing for nursery decor and possibly the book store. Should be a great day!

  • My husband said it doesn't count because the kid's not out yet. I told him he was going to make me food, and he sorta agreed, but I don't believe it will necessarily work out. I may send him out to pick food up. Also, I think I am going to try to get him to make rice krispies treats for me. Before I finished my Ph.D. and moved back into town and started cooking, he used to cook almost more than I did, but he's gotten way out of practice.

  • Is it a thing for first-pregnancy gals to be celebrated on Mother's Day?? DH hasn't brought it up at all, we've only talked about gifts for our own mom's, and plans to visit his mom (mine lives too far away). Just curious if you're considered a mom while being pregnant or not til your first baby's actually out in the world? And, cuz, you know, I'm out of chocolate at home
  • We're taking the kids to Disneyland this weekend and I've been craving this tri-tip dish at Ariel's Grotto, so DH made reservations for us to have lunch there. Other than that, I don't plan on getting anything else, which I'm ok with.
  • I was allowed to plan the day for myself and my mom. farmers market and a lovely little lunch :)
  • FI found a sitter for the kids and (weather permitting, tornadoes predicted though) he and I will spend the day doing whatever the hell we please =)

  • I bought myself a crazy expensive pair of maternity pants and told DH he was off the hook. He will have DS make me a card and they will probably make me breakfast in the morning. Then we will go visit my grandmother in the hospital (she had her 2nd knee replacement yesterday), and maybe have lunch with my mom. Nothing crazy, just a day well spent with my family.

  • My husband celebrated mothers day for me last year even before I was pregnant because I am a huge part of my step daughters lives. This year though he is getting me a pedicure and a massage, I think it counts being pregnant and carrying around the bundle of joy...

  • I wasn't even thinking of it, except how to celebrate my mother, who is visiting... Then flowers arrived from my little brother and his wife today, wishing me a happy new mom to be day! I was so surprised and touched...started crying!!

It's our anniversary this year too, which, to me, is far more important. I'm not DH's mother, so if he does little to acknowledge it, I don't really care. I hope he at least prompts DD to give me an extra hug and kiss though. We leave for vacation on Monday and money is not exactly abundant right now, so I'm not expecting a big anniversary present either.

  • I have to work and as soon as I get home we're leaving for a week on the Oregon coast. I guess that is my mother's day gift? Maybe a card from DS if I'm lucky.

  • I got two Boston ferns in wrought iron hanging pots for our front porch and told my husband it was my Mother's Day present, but that I BETTER have a card from my son on Sunday morning.  ;)
My family always gets together at my mama's house and I'm in charge of cooking lunch for everybody this year, so it won't be super relaxing, but we're giving mama what she really loves by being together.

Aww, IMO it is your SO's job to celebrate mother's day for you if you are pregnant or have kids that are too young to understand. I hope all of you with curmudgeon SO's who say you aren't getting celebrated because baby isn't here yet are just trying to throw you off the trail. Or at the least that they acknowledge you (same goes when father's day rolls around though....don't forget).
  • I should've celebrated Mother's Day when I was pregnant for the first time when I actually had time to relax! Oh well. I'm sure my kids have some cute crafts planned for me :) my youngest has his birthday on Sunday so we're focusing more on that.

I don't know that I'm getting anything. Technically, I'm not a mother yet!

We're having brunch with my sister and her family, however, who is a mother. We happen to be in town, so it just kind of worked out that way.

  • I finally talked SO into getting me a Cricut Explore Air so I can make ALL the things. I made my mom a cute sign with it already for Mother's Day. Tomorrow, we're going to lunch with my parents and to the zoo after. My oldest just asked me a couple days ago when Mother's Day is so I MAY get a card from him. Lol

  • We're not gifty people, but my husband is deep cleaning the bathroom for me for Mother's Day, per request.
  • If H knows what's good for him, he'll be getting up at 6:30 AM with our toddler and letting me sleep in. That's all I want. A maple bar/donut would be nice too. ;)

  • My brother and SIL showed up my hubby by giving me flowers for Mother's Day, even though this is a FTM thing for me.  He said the same as others, the baby isn't out yet, but I said I'm still a mom, just baking.  He wished me a happy mommy's-day-to-be but that was it.  I'm okay with that though, we're playing baseball today (okay he's playing, I'm score keeping), then he will have a few beers while we socialize then come home to relax :) maybe have a nap together.

  • I got an early wake up call for 6 kids swimming lessons a hug a kiss from the little one and some made me gifts my oldest son made these at school he is the sensitive one always makes extra.
  • We kinda celebrated mothers day, but not in the most traditional sense. SO got me the Hitachi magic wand I've been coveting. Hahahaha. But he also took me out for a bike ride to breakfast this morning at a French café. I had a cafe au lait and a croque madame!

Now I'm off to pilates. :)
  • Well, not my best mother's day yet. DH is super sick so I've been tending to him, catching up on laundry, and I'm currently out grocery shopping. DS has been parked in front of movies all day as it's raining out. They did make me rice krispy treats on Friday night while I was at work and hid them until this morning. DS decorated them with purple frosting and sprinkles. He made me a cute card too. A mom's job is never done!

  • My birthday is also today so my husband got me a new phone for our anniversary (5/5) and my birthday/mothers day.. otherwise it's been a pretty normal day, except he's changed a couple diapers on the 18 month old.  I took all the kids to target to get mothers day stuff for our moms and treated myself to some pricy new nail polish I've been wanting to try (called it my birthday gift to myself ;) ). I'll probably fold laundry in a bit and then we're going to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner- steak and chicken get in mah bellay!!
  • Dh got me the light jacket I've been drooling over since bfp, but wouldn't buy for myself. I love it. It's the hm mama parka. The dark green one. We also went to coffee, then had brunch with my family to celebrate my mom. We'll skype with his mom later today.

  • Hubby surprised me at dinner last night (after finding out baby is a girl!!!!) with a super sweet mothers day present that I totally wasn't expecting...a new travel cup to keep all the water I have to drink cold and a Pandora chain for when my fingers get to fat to wear my wedding rings. He's so thoughtful!!! This morning we had breakfast for our moms (and a grandma and sil) who were in town for the gender reveal!!

DD let me sleep in (but cats woke me up at 8). We went swimming at the Y. DD told DH that we needed to go to my favorite place for lunch, so we went to the Irish pub where we were married. Then I got a nap!
