Best Point-and-Shoot Camera for Baby Photos?

Any recommendations on the best point-and-shoot camera for capturing wiggly babies who never stop moving?

I already have a nice DSLR Nikon for home, but I'm looking for a compact point-and-shoot to bring on vacation and keep in my purse. I just bought a Nikon S7000, but I tried snapping a few pics of the little guy and half of them came out blurry because he moves so quickly, even in sports mode.

Any suggestions? What's worked best for you? Honestly, my iPhone 6 captures photos with less blur than the point-and-shoot I just bought, but I need something with more than 8 megapixels.

Thanks!

  • Following!! My DH is about to get me a Nikon 3300(something like that with different sized lenses), but I'm not sure I need all that?! It's a big camera, also.

I love my big Nikon (although the one lense is enough - I have two). It's great for getting super high quality close-ups and it will be great for sports photography when he's older! I use it to take really nice photos of LO at least once a month (we have a little photo shoot session, haha), and I definitely wouldn't be able to capture such great photos without that camera. But I definitely don't want to lug it on vacation with me! Hard to find a good point-and-shoot that can handle these wiggly babies though! I don't want all our family vacation photos looking blurry because LO is a wiggle worm! :)

(My big camera is the Nikon D3200.)
  • Following also. So far my I phone takes better photos then my Nikkon point and shoot. I'm afraid though that I just need to pony up for a big camera.
  • I have a cannon that I love!!! I will have to look and see what the exact one is when I get home. It's the best though! And takes such clear photos.

    This is me exactly.
  • Okay, so the camera I have is a canon powershot sx280 hs. It's been great for me!

I think that might be the one he is looking at!? Do you love it? It's not cheap, but if it's going to last, I may let me gift me with it. LOL @jen83mn
  • I have the Nikon D3200 and love love love it. You can do either point and shoot or manual, so it's perfect. We do take it on vacations. It's a bit big for that purpose, but totally worth some of the great photos we get.

Yes, I love my Nikon D3200! It takes amazing photos and can capture my wiggle worm :) Target had it on sale (came with two lenses and a camera bag) when I bought it, so watch for sales!
