Trouble TTC

On average...

How often do you have an appt./visit with your RE? I know everyone is different...I'm just looking for an average for most people. Thanks!

Do you mean with the RE for consults and sit downs to talk about treatment or for monitoring and treatmeants?

For treatment, it really depends on your treatment and how you are responding. With IVF I had an appointment nearly every day of stimming. With FET I had about one appointment a week.

I have met with my RE a total of three times. Once for an initial appointment for IVF consult (all my tests were done with different RE...I saw her twice) and two WTFs.

  • Actual consult type appts - tomorrow will be number 4. First was initial consult then appt after m/c then a third to figure out a new plan if IUI 3 failed and tmw to discuss IVF.

  • I'm looking for averages during treatments. I'm just curious because my job is not very flexible and I'm wondering how I could possibly go through treatments. My sister did not respond well to medications/treatments and she had some sort of visit almost every other day. I realize it is not typical for everyone. So far, my ovaries have been responding well to the meds *knocks on wood*. So, I realize there is no "average" per se, I'm just looking for a ballpark of how often you make a visit to see the RE. Thanks :)

  • Thanks for this! Were they specific about what time you had to be there?

    ?

Yes. It's called an appointment for a reason. They are scheduled.

    Really?? Oh, thanks for that.

Not exactly what I'm talking about though. I mean, did they tell you what time your appointment had to be? The only person I know that has been to an RE is my sister. She had a very difficult experience and I'm just curious what it is like for other people. They were very specific about what time she had to come in to do things. Is this typical?

It depends on the place.  For bloodwork, I can just walk in anytime that they are open, but for u/s or meeting with the doc, I have to make an appointment.  Generally you make them as you go, so if you get an u/s and they want you to have another one, you'll schedule it before you leave.

Thank you! My first appt. is this week and I'm planning to discuss my options since my schedule is just not flexible. I was just curious to try and see what the experience is like for other people. :)

  • My RE's office operates a little different. All monitoring appts (b/w and u/s) are done between 7 and 9:30am. You do not make an appointment, it is first come first serve. You come in and sign the sign-in sheet. The nurse tells me how often I need to come in after the RE reviews my b/w results later that day. I usually get a phone call around 3pm.

For each of my Clomid cycles I was in for three monitoring appointments. I met with the RE to discuss progress (or lack thereof) after two of these appointments.
