TWW Crazies

Re: TWW Crazies

  • I don't change much in my TWW relative to my regular life - but I don't know what I'd do if my regular life was different than it actually is.

I don't drink coffee - I drink teas, but even with those, if I have a caffeinated tea it is usually just one cup. In terms of avoiding certain ingredients in teas - I seldom drink more than a cup or two a day - and I love a variety of teas so I'm not overly concerned about ingredients because the dosage of a single cup every now and then isn't that high. That said, I'll look into the hibiscus stuff when I get a chance.

I don't drink alcohol - DH isn't a fan of it so we don't have it in the house. I don't see the logics of adding something I normally don't consume that many people avoid while in the TWW. I would drink a glass or three of wine while WTO. And if it was a special occasion I might during my TWW. I won't drink at all while pregnant - but again I don't think it is the devil that North American's make it out to be. I think the issue is that we don't know how much is ok - and there are likely times during pregnancy when the fetus is more vulnerable. Another issue is that if you say "every once and awhile" that definition varies from person to person - and if you say X amount - and then something happens... the regulatory body is hooped.

I had sushi on 2DPO this cycle and I'm having steak medium rare tonight (3DPO). My naturopath said she doesn't see the need to avoid sushi throughout pregnancy - her reasoning is that in cultures where sushi and sashimi are traditional foods, women wouldn't have avoided them (and likely don't now). Once pregnant I'll avoid it - mainly because I don't think the fish is as fresh here in Canada as it would be in Japan... If I was in Hawaii I might - not sure. I don't think I'll have my steak as rare once pregnant. It isn't worth the risk.

In terms of nitrates - I was eating lunch meat while pregnant. Not every day, but I have to be gluten free so I have to pack my lunch every day. I'm not inventive with my lunches... Turns out that the meat I normally buy for myself (certified gluten free) has no added nitrates. So it was 100% fine. I'll eat it while pregnant the next time that situation arises. My SIL avoided mayo like it was evil too - which I get if it is made with raw eggs, but if it is pasteurized I don't know whether it is as bad. And soft cheeses - I avoid those while pregnant but not before, though I'll cook with them (the heat should make them just fine) - and if I make a mistake and have some on a salad in a restaurant I don't pick it off.

The thing that I struggled with - and will struggle with when I get pregnant is the medication and supplement side of things. I suffer from major depressive disorder - I've treated it with SSRIs but they don't work for me and the side effects are too much. So I take 5HTP, and there are zero studies on that... But without it I'm depressed and non-functional - which is also correlated with things like low birth weight. So damned if you do, damned if you don't... But I can't be depressed for 9 months - it isn't healthy for me or future fetus. I'll try to decrease it a bit further if/when I get a BFP but I'll have to work not to beat myself up for needing it.

  • Hi everyone! My first time posting here, though I lurk more than I care to admit

I believe I'm in my TWW, though OPKs have been kind of messing with my head. I bled for 9 days after my miscarriage, then OPK jumped to Peak just 5 days after bleeding stopped (never showed High). Something made me want to test again and I got High 3 days after that. Have been trying to HIO regularly but I'm really not sure what's going on. According to FF I'm 5 DPO (though it's been 6 since I got that Peak). Have had EWCM kind of all over the place as well (most recently this morning). Not sure if I should take another OPK test at this point. All of this confusion does make me wish I got into temping.

Congratulations @ThePax89 on your BFP! You helped me while I was in limbo before my MC and I'm so happy for you, and wishing you all the best!
  • So FF updated my crosshairs to where I thought they should be - I'm 3DPO and our timing was impeccable (-3, -2, -1 and O) - no SS yet - but so hopeful that I'm feeling too PollyAnna and worried that I'll be disappointed if/when AF arrives. Endocrine panel scheduled for Saturday to take a look at my progesterone because my LP has been short

  • @catiecap, the concern with deli meats is listeria, even if it's nitrate free.

  • I think I am out for this month. I tested on a whim last night at 11DPO.  I don't even know why I did it, I hadn't been thinking about it all day whatsoever.  But it was a BFN so I am pretty sure I am out. Expecting my period Saturday, but at this point I am not hopeful.

  • @trufflies Have you taken a pregnancy test by chance? I'm not sure how long ago your D&C was, but it sounds recent. It's possible you would still be turning a pregnancy test positive and the OPK is picking up on the HCG in your system not the LH needed for ovulation.
  • @trufflies Hello, welcome. I'm sorry for loss.

@catiecatp I've said it before, but I'm sure you'll make the right decision when the time comes. FX it's this cycle!

@MWoodside Sorry, lady. It's a rough ride, but there is still time this go round.

I guess in relation to the TWW, I do still drink all kinds of herbal teas that are probably no-nos, and I drink a green tea here and there that I wouldn't if pregnant. I really love hot beverages. No, actually, I really love beverages, I usually have two or three on the go at any given time. I get the listeria concerns with deli meat and soft cheeses (neither of which I eat), but it pops up on everything these days - so I probably wouldn't eat frozen fruits (I do every day now) or pre-washed greens while pregnant. I'm a really careful person and I don't think pregnancy will make me personally any less so, but I have no judgement for people who don't feel so much anxiety over everything like I do.

  • @BornReady @SnobunnieMel Hi, yes the urine test I took at my OB's office was negative. I was about 5 weeks along, and no D&C. It's been just 12 days since the bleeding stopped though. Maybe there is still something there causing the mixed results?

    @reneeannemm Thank you very much
  • @mwoodside - I remember that part too - I was microwaving the deli meats until steaming while I was pregnant - I'd do that again with the nitrate free deli meats. I agree with @renneeannemm - there's concerns about so much these days, especially with listeria contamination. I believe that Costco frozen fruit of some variety or anther had hepatitis concerns recently - and I've never heard that pregnant women should avoid frozen fruit, is that a new one (or one I've yet to hear) Renee?

  • @catiecatp No decree on frozen fruit! I was thinking of the Costco recall and various ones in years past. I just read some stuff on things food inspectors wouldn't eat and figure I might as well avoid it too if pregnant in the future. Most of the food I eat is whole anyway, so as long as I clean, store and prepare it carefully I should be all right.

I just spent several hours reading about teaching students to learn and constructing better multiple choice questions. More my brand of crazy I suppose.

We love eating fruit, but unless it is in the summer it is all so expensive and fresh doesn't seem to make much of a difference for smoothies...

  • just hanging around deciding when or if I want to test. I didn't test out my trigger, so I can't even trust any positive I would get anyways. Beta is on Saturday, but that seems like a long time. DH is going out of town on Wednesday  until Sunday, so I'd be on my own in terms of testing/disappointment which is also not appealing. For anyone that has ever had to do a beta, did you test prior? Or just go and get the blood test?
  • So I guess the crazies are unavoidable even if you are benched. We had relations ONCE with POM that happened to fall at -2 and now my temps are doing weird things and it has me super freaked out. • @BornReady I wish I knew about triggers and the like so that I could offer advice. I would find it really difficult to wait all the way until Saturday to find out!

@SnobunnieMel I hope things work out in your favor no matter what happens. Our temps can really make us think a lot of different things, especially when they do things they don't usually do.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @catiecatp Sorry about the spotting, so stressful. When will you get your blood results back?
  • @bornready - got Saturday's test results today - everything is in the normal range - low but not borderline (apparently progesterone the lower limit in the LP is 13 and I'm 22?). Was on 6DPO, unless I have a slow rise that isn't being detected by FF, in which case it was later than that and my LP is longer than I think it is. Got another requisition for CD3 if AF comes - but the interpretation will have to be by the naturopath because my GP wouldn't be able to interpret the ratio of FSH to LH.

I did have spotting 10, 11 and 12 DPO when I got my BFP so it could be that - or it could be AF coming... last cycle I had 3 days of spotting before AF so it continues to be a waiting game.

  • @BornReady jumping in this thread to talk about triggers.  I am going to be out of town this weekend (plus I don't think my clinic does betas on the weekend--they'll do procedures if needed, but they seem to try to avoid stuff that isn't crucial to be on that day), so my beta's not until Tuesday.  I assume I'll know before then one way or the other.  I didn't test out the trigger with my prior IUIs.  I got AF right before my beta for the first two, and it was really stressing me out whether I would make it to the beta or not, so for #3 I scheduled for 16 dpiui instead of 14 dpiui, and even thought I was still on edge, I think it helped (also helped to get a BFP that cycle...sigh).  We'll see how this weekend goes.  I never did a home test with the IUIs...wondering if it was too early & a false negative and giving myself false hope felt like too much.  FX for you.

@catiecatp 22 seems like a good number. When I've had mine tested it was 18 and 14 during my LP. I definitely think a slow rise pattern is a possibility for you, I'd be curious what you would see if you start using OPKs. Hopefully, though this will be implantation and you won't have to worry about it. Glad you got the CD 3 labs ordered too. That will give you more info on egg quality, etc. that could also explain a short LP. I hope you get some answers soon!

@brightenmysky Thanks! I am usually one to wait it out too, but I'm on progesterone supplement this cycle and I wasn't sure I would get AF while on it? FX to you too!

edit: what I think I write and what I actually write are sometimes two different thing.
  • @BornReady yeah have never taken progesterone, I have heard that will keep you from getting AF.

  • Guys. I have all the crazies and we are benched. I even have my hubs in on the crazies. WTF is wrong with me!!! My temp charts are so identical to our Original BFP cycle I'm freaking out a swimmer got by and we will end up in trouble on our benched month. I literally had to slap some sense into myself today.
