We ski, DH mountain bikes, and I used to teach/perform/study Scottish highland dance and play piano. I haven't had time for dance nor piano for a while now but hope to get back into them at least a little bit as DD is now expressing an interest in learning both.

I also like to do crafty stuff when I have a little bit of spare time. Like family Halloween costumes, Christmas stockings, etc. Though...I started a Christmas stocking for DD when she was less than a year old and it's still not done and she's 4, ooops!

I don't really have any hobbies. That's kind of depressing. I have activities I enjoy (for example, drinking) but I wouldn't really call any of them hobbies.
This. I guess DH and I go hiking a lot, but we never go more than 5 miles (and lately usually it's closer to 2-3) so I think it's more accurate to call that occasional walking.

  • @aquasocks Up until I moved away from Florida 6 months ago, I would have called happy hour my favorite hobby. The only reason that stopped is because I don't know enough people here to make happy hour a regular part of my day. (Well, and now that I'm KU it's not the same)

DH and I love running and we hope to pass that on to a kid one day. I played cello, french horn and piano growing up and still play a little bit at home. My biggest hobby I would say is reading. I'm also pretty crafty, but I have to be in the mood because I hate starting a project and not finishing it.

I do agility and herding with my dog and I do quite a bit of photography. I love hobbies and have always had a lot. In the past I also danced, drew, and rode/trained horses but it seems the older I get the more I need to cut back and focus on just a few things. I would love to get my kid into showing dogs- not so sure about horses. That is opening up a large, dangerous, and all-the-time-and-money-consuming can of worms.

  • For the first two years we lived in our house, all free time was devoted to renovation projects. So lots of painting, learning to tile, replace toilets, light fixtures, doors, and generally forcing my husband to become handy. He comes from a particularly un-handy family (whereas my dad can literally do any house project ever), so I am happy. We've kind of taken a year and a half break from house projects, so my hobbies have included drinking (before getting KU) and Netflix... I actually just had to cancel my wine club membership today. Sad.

Oh, and I'm teaching myself how to knit now.

  • Our favorite hobbies are vacations lol does that count??!
  • I play softball on 2 teams and I am a pitching coach; I can't wait to play with my daughter. This isn't so much a hobby and it is a lifestyle but  we breed and train dogs (police/military/ personal protection/ agility) and she will be born into that lifestyle. I'm sure she will be training dogs by the time she is 3.
  • About two years ago I totally changed my lifestyle and got really into fitness.  I love running but this pregnancy has been rough on that passion.  I'm hoping like last pregnancy once I get well into the second trimester I'll be able to get back into it.
I'm fairly crafty and really need to get on something for this baby.  I did some sewing projects last pregnancy but this go around I'm thinking something knit.  Can't decide between a blanket or stuffed animal.
My husband has gotten me really into Legos.  So that's our joint hobby.  We have Lego sets all over our house including bathroom counters.

  • @EmmieAnn22 you're not alone. I'm struggling to run and I have been running for 10 years.

I was a dancer growing up until I was 17, so I wanted my girls to do that as well. They did do dance for several years, but financially I couldn't do it anymore as a single mom. Then they started gymnastics, which was much cheaper at the time for us.

I try to plant a garden every year and nothing turns out. I'll try again the following year and swear it's the last.
i love cooking but I haven't done much of it in the past few weeks.

We haven`t done that for some time but we both used to do sailing and loved racing in competitions. Our dream is to have enough money to buy (and maintain) a sail boat and sail with our kid.
  • I crochet and in the summer I do container gardens of veggies (last year I did basil, cherry tomatoes, jalapeños, and mint). I also read a ton and I enjoy cooking but I've really gotten into baking lately and am loving baking bread/buns and that sort of thing.

  • I am a really big reader. It's my one superpower, I can read very fast. I love painting (specifically calligraphy ink, but not script), outdoor photography, going to the movies (huge movie buff) repurposing old furniture is my new attempt however, I don't really have the space to do much at once with it so far but I love working with wood. My husband and I are also foodies and enjoy nothing better than trying a new restaurant or picking out a menu to do at home.

However since having my son, I find very little time to do any of this. I have never gone so long in my life without reading like I used to and I've seen maybe 5 movies in 2 years. I thought I'd be getting back to that but then we got pregnant much faster than we expected. Not complaining, just a fact.

@NatashaSproutThe developing story of you continues to surprise and amaze me.

I've posted this before but it gets me every time:

My hobbies usually focus around what I'm into in my daily life at the moment. So for the past two years or so it's been pregnancy and parenting. Outside of that I love yoga, skiing, cooking, music, traveling, fashion, and working on being a better version of me. I know that last one sounds corny but I really devote an enormous amount of time to it. I am very into therapy and meditation.  I had a lot of inner turmoil until my mid 20s and in the past decade I've become a much much happier person.
  • @Thewizardofrhythm that made me laugh. The story of my life will make you cry. I know what you mean when you say "working on a better version of me". It's inspiring. Creating who you want to be and then going out and being that person is such an amazing feeling.
  • I really like to cook and to bake, so I'm hoping I can gradually involve kids in this with age- appropriate participation - even if it stays off as just licking the beaters :)

I read; I blog for a tech site; I craft a little. Husband is a baseball nut.
  • Oh! I forgot about college football. That counts. In the fall I have a hobby: cooking and ingesting football food. Also watching football.

  • Hobbies?  I consider working out a hobby, does that count?  No extra time for anything else.
    Baby J #2 due 11.12.16

  • Since I have been in the military I have not had too much time to develop hobbies. I used to enjoy photography when I was living in Monterey and may pick it up again when I have a little model all the time.
I will need to figure something else out once I become a civilian again. I really hope to take up gardening and raising back yard chickens (fingers crossed my husband supports it...)
  • I never really had one. I do love to read but in spurts. I'll read all the books for 6 months and then nothing for 6 months. I binge watch television like it's going out of style though and yes (!) drinking. I miss alcohol.

I have a bunch of artsy hobbies. I wouldn't say I'm terribly talented at anything but I dabble in a lot. I knit and crochet, draw a bit, calligraphy has been a hobby for about 15 years. I play several instruments (woodwinds) and I read a LOT - fiction, non-fiction (lots of science, medicine) and stuff like that.

My husband and I are both movie buffs too.

Physical-activity wise, I swim laps and I walk my dog.

This is my happy place, with my sketchbooks and instruments (and my stethoscopes. Long story as to why I have two) and all my crafts stuff. My yarn is all in a bin in the master bedroom so I have it easy to hand.

I like to bake, sew, knit, and garden. I made a crib quilt and Christmas stocking for DD before she was born and I plan to do that for this new baby as well. I haven't been able to garden as much as I would like because we've been living in apartments the last few years so I've been confined to container gardening. I can't wait to have the space to design and install my own landscapes but that isn't going to happen for quite awhile.

  • @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt the were three stethoscopes in our house of two people for a while, until DH lost his. Rather than buying a new one, he adopted my baby blue adult one from school since I'd gifted myself with a rainbow bell paediatric one when I passed the CRNE. He got made fun of a lot for that one lol.

  • I know two guys with baby blue ones in my class. I'm surprised he ran into difficulties because of that!

I actually have four, total, but just the two Littmanns. One of them was free (from my home province's medical society) so at least I didn't buy one twice, hah. The other two are from before I got into med school. I have really severe asthma and I was taught how to listen to my own lungs as a kid (it helped me stay compliant with my meds) and so I have one from when I was little, and the one I replaced it with a few years ago. My kids now have those two.

I don't have hobbies either. Maybe Netflix ? Haha. I hope to one day find a hobby
  • I like to do a lot of things every once in a while but I wouldn't say any one thing is a hobby. I like to cook, camp, snowboard, read, garden, do minor crafty things, organize, yoga, and watch tv. Ultimately lounging with my dogs is the only thing I do on a regular basis.

He was a paramedic, so I think maybe it was like a macho thing that they poked fun at? I feel like med school would be more accepting than a bunch of medics haha. Litmann's are so crazy expensive, but I love them. I also love my rainbow bell to no end!

Wine drinking is probably my #1 hobby, well not right now, but it was! We spend an enormous amount of time in Napa with friends and for various wine related activities. The food isn't too bad either. I can't wait to take the baby up there on the weekends- it's so beautiful!

Second hobby is probably skiing up in Tahoe. We spend as much time at our home up there as possible- that will be a great thing to share with our kids!

  • I love going to baseball games, but haven't been in a while. Mostly we go to the park with the pups and take walks/hikes during the weekends. I was starting to get into backpacking, but that's on hold for now.

Always fun to cook, drink, catch up on movies, and read.  I got a sewing machine for Christmas 2 yrs ago, but it's mostly intimidating, so I haven't started sewing projects yet. I'm hoping to do a few for the baby this summer.

We do a huge garden at my fil so I have really been getting into canning the past few years.  Last year I did 60 quarts of marinara.  20 qts of salsa.  10 bloody Mary Mix.  A bunch of jalapeno jam.  Rhubard jam and dried out enough herbs to last until this summer.  I also enjoy fishing mainly ice.

  • I play the piano/guitar and sing, along with writing music. DD already likes to strum my guitar while I change chords for her and try to make up songs. It's such a good bonding activity for us together.
My DH and I are really into fishing and hiking, camping, all of that. So we definitely want her to partake in those activities with us soon!

  • I like to work out (running and pilates mostly).I still read pretty regularly and jumped on the adult coloring bandwagon last fall.

Pre-kid I played the piano and enjoyed baking quite a bit. Hoping to get back into those more as the kids get older. Starting this summer, I'm also going to have a yard for the first time so I'd to get into gardening a bit too. If only so yard work doesn't seem like such a chore.

In normal life, which DH tells me will be a fond memory, I backpack, ride bikes, snowboard, run, play keys in a band. For awhile I had a river rafting phase, a surfing phase, a swimming phase, a hunting/fishing phase, and was about to sign up for rock climbing classes when I finally got KU.  I guess now I'll have a baby phase!

My hobbies are knitting, sewing (clothes, I love sewing clothes. I just don't have space and time to do it as often as I would like), reading, a little bit of scrapbooking, logic puzzles and gaming a little with DH.
