@bamacoop and @JamieK1882 Soft serve actually wasn't on the list my OB gave me of things to avoid. I just heard on here that it was a no-no. I think the concern is the cleanliness of the machine. If you're going to a reputable place where cleaning the machine is a daily thing, it's not a big deal. There is risk of bacteria in literally EVERYTHING. We gotta eat!

Wait, wait, wait, wait.....soft serve is on the naughty list?
1.) I had no idea!
2.) What do "they" want women to eat while pregnant? Nothing but prenatals, water, and the finest first fruits of the fatted calf blessed by a single monk in the mountains of Greece wearing a fertility necklace over his hair shirt while dancing the Macarena in a pool of magical spring water?
This was the best reaction ever, lol, and my thoughts exactly!! Luckily this did not come up as a concern from my OB cause in the first trimester, the only that kept the nausea at bay on my drive home from work was a McD's ice cream cone. I agree with @MRSCORKER in that as long as you use your smarts, you should be fine.
You think that monk can come bless my local soft serve frozen yogurt place?

I'm getting really frustrated with deciding what is/isn't safe. I've always been really strict about not drinking sugary drinks. I'll admit to having a mild diet coke addiction which I've scaled way back because aspartame is a "no-no" (OB said 1 diet coke a day was fine with her). Well, I got pretty damn sick of plain water after a few weeks so I sought out beverages sweetened naturally. I've been really into the Bai beverages and Zevia soda. Both are sweetened with stevia with no sugar. I've always used stevia in the raw packets instead of splenda or whatever and I've been using True Lemon packets in my water bottle (they're like crystal light but sweetened with stevia instead of aspartame). Basically, I ingest stevia all day, every day. Yesterday, someone on another board said she thought stevia wasn't allowed. I got so frustrated. I did a quick search and only found information saying it was "safe for it's inteded use during pregnancy". It's just so annoying that there is so much misinformation out there and I feel like I have to worry about everything I put in my mouth. *end rant*

@kmolleltz Your life and stories always fascinate me. When I think about your days in comparison to mine it just blows my mind really. Just the sound of that journey sets off thoughts my motion sickness (and that's when I'm not pregnant!) I would be so insanely perturbed with people talking about me while I know what they are saying. I've had that happen here on the T with people speaking Spanish, not knowing I could understand every word.
Yeah I never thought this is what my life would look like! Not that its bad, I'm truly so happy to be here despite the challenges, and the longer I'm here the more this feels like home but at times I feel totally crazy, hah.
And yeah, people are dumb. The hormones got me like

Does anyone else watch the Food Network? This reminds of me of Ina Garten.
Ugh, yes on all food accounts! My husband is all over me everyday about my Coke drinking... well, I get massive migraines that I can no longer take Excedrin migraine for, so I'm going to drink a Coke everyday to keep the headaches away if I can and I DON'T CARE!!!
Sometimes I feel bad, because I feel so NOT bad about the stuff I ingest. I just... eat what I want to eat. I definitely up my water, fruits, and veggies intake...but other than that I eat whatever I feel like eating at the time. Sometimes that a salad and some applesauce; sometimes that a delicious hot dog and some fries.
@bamacoop I'm the same way.... I refuse to feel bad about what I eat since I still have almost no appetite. I get annoyed if it's something I definitely wanted to avoid and didn't notice it was mixed into what I'm eating. But if I want lunchmeat or a coffee and it's the only thing that sounds good when I feel like absolute crap, I'm going to have it. I don't go nuts, but I don't beat myself up either. Everything is OK in moderation, although I definitely don't go around telling people "Hey, eat lunchmeat. It will be fine!" Lol. That's really a personal decision.
My mom, a doctor who has taken care of a listeria patient herself, said "eh, life is full of risk. You drive to work each day, that's statistically more likely to hurt you or the baby than anything else, but you don't hear about blanket restrictions on that! Humans are bad at risk assessment and always think 'well just don't do that thing if there's any risk to it' but that's silly."
I'm seriously annoyed because it's been SO difficult to find a mohel that will perform a bris for the baby! We found several who will ONLY perform the bris if we both are Jewish...but since I'm not, they can't perform. Ugh. Back to the drawing board.
We had this problem with my first (hubs is Jewish I'm not) I was told if we did a mikvah bath for the baby first they would do the bris. In the end we had the hospital do the snipping and did a naming ceremony instead

Regarding food- I got listeriosis with DS' pregnancy from eating ICE CREAM. When I was pregnant with him, there were listeria recalls on peanut butter, spinach and all stone fruits. This time there have been recalls on tuna, bagged salads, frozen vegetables, and other crap I don't remember. Yet you aren't supposed to eat deli meat or soft serve. And I've never heard of a recall on soft cheese.
This pregnancy, I've had sashimi half a dozen times and plan to continue doing so.
Ever since I got pregnant, I've had all sorts of eczema-related health problems. We had to give our dog to my parents since I'm allergic. We're gonna try allergy shots after the pregnancy.
For the past three months, my skin has been red ALL OVER. Arms, legs, chest, neck, and now it's spread to my stomach. There's nothing that can be done for it other than moisturizer-- I've seen about 3 doctors (GP, allergist, derm) about it and the consensus is that it's eczema and anything that will "solve" it isn't an option during pregnancy (allergy shots, steroid cream, etc.) Oh! And I've had two bacterial skin infections so far. Super fun.
Thankfully the itchiness and a lot of the redness has gone down this week, but I feel like I've gotten about 20 hours of sleep over the past month and a half. I just want my skin to feel better so I can finally enjoy being pregnant.
@AgentCarter oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with that. I am a chronic eczema sufferer, but fortunately it has been under control during this pregnancy. My dermatologist said I had one of the worst cases he's ever seen and I ended up on an immunosuppressant for about 9-12 months, which broke the really bad cycle I was in and I've been able to just spot treat with steroid creams since. I know that doesn't help you now, and I'm sorry for that I will say--if they try to put you on an oral steroid after pregnancy, try to say no. They're just awful and can put you in really bad cycles where your eczema briefly clears up and comes back worse.
For now, I would suggest using Selsun Blue or one of those anti-dandruff shampoos when you shower, especially if you can find one with tea tree oil in it. They always help with my skin after a week or two--but I haven't looked up safety during pregnancy so double check. You may already be using something like this but I thought I would mention it in case it helps. Then I slather on a really thick, ointmenty moisturizer like the Aquafor ointment/balm or something along those lines. The Mary Kay pink super thick moisturizer has also helped me.
Anyway, best of luck in kicking the itch! It's no fun!
@AgentCarter - I get eczema really bad too (apparently according to the women in my family, it only gets worse after having babies...which I'm sad to say is true for me after DS), but my OB prescribed a mid-strength cream and has even said high strength steroid ointments (like clobetasol) are fine. I see that you said you've spoken to a GP, allergist & derm, but have you asked your OB? They are more likely to have more specific info to safety during pregnancy. Often times other types of specialists & generalists will just say no as a CYA thing.
@agogo1 That sounds horrible! I'm glad you're doing better now. Luckily, my allergist has been really helpful (I'm a chronic eczema sufferer too, but my allergy to my dog made my issues explode.) I use Aquaphor as well! Thanks for all the advice
@NoraAurora My OB has said that the mild steroid ointments are fine, and I just met with my allergist again to talk about my options. My problem usually is that my OB doesn't answer her emails, and all my other docs are really into sending emails, so sometimes she just doesn't answer until I have an appointment and can ask in person. Thanks so much for your advice-- it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has these issues. Solidarity!
