As May is upon us I was wondering whose bundles of joy we could look forward to seeing in the next month. I know there are several moms that have may sections and inductions planned.

I have an ultrasound on Thursday to find out the plan. I have GD, so the high risk doc said if the baby is big, I won't go past 38 weeks, which would be 5/23. We'll see.

Is this your first though? You're right, at least with my first, they wouldn't induce until 41 weeks, but because my first pregnancy was pretty much textbook, they said they would induce anytime after 39 weeks this time.

I suspect its its the same story for

Last time I went to 41 weeks and had to be induced. This time she told me I could do it any time after 39 weeks. My husband is in the military and we don't have any family or really close friends to watch our 19 month old when we have this baby. I'm even seeing a midwife and as long as everything is okay and my body is ready to have a baby she will induce me

C section scheduled for May 19th! I will be 37 weeks and 4 days. Darn gestational hypertension just won't quit so Dr is leery about letting us go longer. Hoping I make it to our scheduled date and she doesn't come any earlier though.

First, second, third...I still have a hard time choosing induction. Unless medically needed, you're putting the baby through a lot of unnecessary stress out of convenience. I guess I just know of way too many instances of elective inductions ending up in an emergency csections. But hey, if your dr is on board, good luck!

If your body was ready to have a baby, it would have the baby, you wouldn't need to be induced....

This! Also if your induced and your body isn't ready then you have a higher chance of needing a c-section.

^ all of that, not to mention an induction is FAR MORE painful than natural labor. I don't understand this mentality of scheduling an induction out of convenience. There is not one thing that's convenient about pregnancy, labor and delivery....or parenting, for that matter, but we won't go there. Just because we have access to drugs that simulate labor doesn't mean we should always use them. Are there instances where it should be used? Of course- I was induced at 41+5 because my placenta was breaking down and baby was in distress. However, that's a far cry from "I want to do this because it's convenient for my schedule." I call BS. Sorrynotsorry.

@MamaNicoleof3 my doc cares about me and knows how important it is to have a specific birthday for my child. It is the rest of his life we're talking about. There is NOTHING more important than the date.

Induction raise the risk of c-section by 30% right from the beginning... medically necessary induction is one thing, but labor is hard enough naturally and can cause stress on you and baby.

How is she going to induce exactly? Pitocin, membrane sweep...?

I'm technically due June 5, but I think a more accurate EDD is probably May 27, so I wouldn't be surprised for this kid to turn up by the end of the month. I would prefer after the 29th, though, or at the very least after the 24th, so hopefully s/he hangs out awhile yet. Also because I have diapers and food to prep and I'm NOT READY GAH.

I had an unnecessary induction with my 1st pregnancy, and to this day I still regret it.

When I turned 39 weeks I went to my weekly check up, they took my weight, blood pressure, and pee, and asked me how I was feeling. I told them that I had woken up with a mild headache. My OB looked at my blood pressure and told me it looked slightly elevated, and even though my urine didn't have an abnormal amount of protein, he still wanted me to go to the hospital right away to be induced for preeclampsia. Terrified and nervous, Dh and I drove to the hospital immediately.

When I arrived at the hospital they again checked my blood pressure, and urine. Everything was normal, and by that point my headache was gone. I asked the nurse if I should go home, and she said that they might as well proceed with the induction since my OB still thought it was for the best.

Being induced was hard. There was no progression of labor. One minute I was feeling fine, the next minute I had full on contractions AND back labor. The pain never let up, there was no time to breathe and relax until the next contraction came, only pain. It was continuous.

I was in labor for 12 hours, which according to my OB was very short considering I was induced.

When my son was finally born after two hours of labor, he latched on perfectly without any issues. He did however have a fever- which he caught from me, which they suspect I had gotten from being induced. He also had jaundice- also a likely symptom of being induced.

W was nursing and latching like a champ. One the second day on the hospital< Dh and I started packing up and getting ready to go home. Unfortunately, the pediatrician thought his bilirubin levels were too high for us to leave, and informed me that he would need to be kept under UV lights for the next 16 hours.

I was given 30 minutes to feed my son every 3 hours, then he had to be rushed back to the NICU to be put back under the UV lights. 30 minutes was not enough time to latch him to my breast, so I had to put and feed him from a bottle as quickly as possible.

Watching him scream under the lights was painful. Knowing he would stop screaming if I could just pick him up and rock him, but being unable to was tortuous. All I could do was hold his tiny hand and cry next to him while he wailed.

After W's light treatment we would no longer latch to my breast, and he screamed until I gave up and gave him a bottle of breastmilk. After many tears and visits to a lactation consultant I was able to get him to latch to my breast once again. It was terrible, I felt like I had "broken" my son since first he was able to latch perfectly, and then he only knew how to drink from a bottle. We both eventually got the hang of it again, but the anxiety of whether or not I would be able to achieve my dream of BFing was terrible.

Had it not been for my unnecessary induction, I believe my labor would have been easier.
I believe W and I wouldn't have had elevated fevers.
I believe W wouldn't have had to be treated for jaundice.
And I believe I never would have had latching issues.

So, if you considering an 39 week early induction for the sake of "it would makes things easier", reconsider. I'm not saying you'll have the exact same issues that I had, but I am saying that in all likelihood you're better off going into labor naturally. Being induced is hard, and if I could go back in time, and ask my OB for a second opinion, I would.

Some of us here would give an arm and a leg to have a healthy, full term, 40 week pregnancy. I wish with everything I have that I didn't have to do a repeat c section at 38+5, but my child has a 40% chance of still birth if we go longer. Oh how I wish that weren't the case. Even at 38+5 with a typical baby, there's so much more that baby needs to do before she's ready to come out that soon. Be thankful for your healthy pregnancies and babies (those of you that have them), and be patient a little longer. Think long and hard before deciding on an unnecessary induction, ladies. Your baby will come when it's ready.

My doctor wants to induce me on 5/23. I would prefer to wait until my body starts prepping. I am high risk because of previous hx of hypertension. I have not developed signs of Pre-E but OB is worried the longer I stay pregnant the higher the chance for me to develop Pre-E. I have also had a random issue in Jan/Feb where my blood stopped platting and no reason was found. While now my blood platelets are back to a normal range and my bp is staying good she wants to induce as a precaution which i am not thrilled about.

By this logic, I could've just been done around 25 weeks because I was already uncomfortable and have had morning sickness this entire pregnancy. Or maybe I just should've taken up smoking, because hey, that's my priority. I'm well aware that smoking can destroy my unborn baby's lungs, but I'm going in informed, so to each their own.

Get a second opinion and a blood pressure cuff for your home. There is no strong reason to induce unless your BP actually does rise, despite hx of pre-e. Bc you had it before you are more likely to have it again, but not certain too. Also- you can always push back and say 'I'd like more time' for any intervention.

My due date is June 28th but my son was born at 34 weeks and I'm doing 17P shots this time to try and prevent another early birth but my last shot is scheduled for 5/26. There was never a known reason for my first son coming early so, I am hoping these shots keep this baby in there until at least 37 weeks, which is June 7th, but a May baby wouldn't surprise me at all. My son was also small so they're doing regular checks/ultrasounds to make sure this baby is growing ok and doing well in there. So far, things look ok, but if he starts dropping in percentiles, they'll likely have to balance preemie with induction.

My in-laws are leaving on a trip June 7th and won't be back until July 3rd. On Saturday, my mother in law said she hopes this baby comes early, "so I can see him before I leave." Yeah, after a traumatic emergency birth early with my first, and after hoping desperately for a more typical experience with this baby where I can walk around, labor in the waterbirthing room and take my baby home with me instead of leaving him in the NICU, I am now totally wishing for another early baby because you decided to plan a month long trip for my due date even though you've known my due date since November. Maybe I'll take a stroll over to the brag thread and post about not losing my sh*t with her in the middle of a family dinner.

I already have a cuff at home and the only thing raising my blood pressure is my in laws lol. I am actually doing with my blood pressure now that I am pregnant. Yea when it gets around the time to scheduling I already wanted to ask for another week at least.

Don't be so dramatic/ take my post out of context, no one was talking about her smoking or drinking. She was talking about getting induced like 2 days before her due date not going in a month early.

Don't be so dramatic/ take my post out of context, no one was talking about her smoking or drinking. She was talking about getting induced like 2 days before her due date not going in a month early.
