Also, talk to me about humidifiers...

Needed/helpful or wait till he's stuffed up? Have on hand or use from day 1?

Essential oil/fragrance diffuser or no?

Those changing pad covers look great! As far as a humidifier, I didn't get one until I needed it, but I never hurts to be prepared. I got cool must because it doesn't make the room as hot and swampy...

Those changing pads look really nice!! I think I got maybe 6 or 8 of those @jilligan14! Agree with @Sporty1216 - can't hurt to have a humidifier on hand. Then you're not running out to get one some night when the baby is stuffed up. I also did cool mist.

I don't remember the exact logistics of the pack-n-play since I only saw it open once. It's all packed up now but I guess I could open it again. I kind of remember a part that clips on that becomes a bassinet so baby is higher up to reach. Maybe the mattress pad does just go up in there. Either way, I'll just register for the regular pack-n-play sheets.

It feels like Christmas! My friend just gave me a TON of baby stuff! A swing, a bouncer, a rocker, a bassinet, and two different car seats. Both the car seats were made in 2013 and my friend said they are good for 6-7 years so I assume they are okay to use still. Plus it's all FREE!!! Oh, and tons of baby onesies from 3months-18 months. I just can't help but share a picture:

I was wondering about a humidifier too, @infantino22. My mom always used one when we were sick and I found it very comforting for some reason.

Sleeved bibs -- how many should I register for and what size?

I got sleeved bibs from ikea--and they just came in one size. I got 6 but have lost some along the way (no idea how). I get along fine with about 3, but I am okay with reusing them throughout the day with a bit of food crusted on. I wash them in the sink with the dishes at night and they drip dry by morning.

So, I don't knwk about size, but I'd say register for 3-7 of them. Sleeved bibs are the best!

I didn't register for a humidifier and I wish I had because I ended up needing one when both my baby and I were terribly sick and we had to stop and buy one on the way home from having my newborn checked for whooping cough at the children's hospital ER. I also found, as he got older, I ended up needing one at around 2 am when he would wake up hacking. They're not that pricey and don't take up a ton of space, just get one and stash and your future exhausted mommy self will thank you.

I'd say before you buy a ton of any one thing like sleeved bibs, you might want to get a few and see how it goes. My kid hated them, which was lame, because how great is it to cover everything with a bib? He also refused the first couple types of bottles, all pacifiers and being swaddled. I had no idea a newborn would be so completely strong willed. This time, I haven't bought too much so we'll see if this kid is a little more willing to adapt to what I have or if I end up buying a bunch of random stuff again.

Registering is so difficult, because I've read just what @Alitria said. It seems like there are very few baby items that are not dependent on your actual baby. Practically the only safe thing to buy now is a monitor! I've never read about anyone saying their baby hated their monitor or was allergic to it or something. lol

I'm registering for a ton of things and figure I'll just sell the things that my baby hates. I'm hoping people buy us gift cards too so that I can buy more stuff as I figure out what baby likes/hates. It is a bit of a gamble, though.

It's always frustrating because NOW is when people want to buy me baby things, not in a few months when I know what my baby will like. I've started choosing one small thing and getting a gift card when I go to other people's showers because it's less exciting when you unwrap but when you haven't gotten paid in eight weeks and your baby decides to reject the adorable things you already have, those gift cards seem like the most brilliant gift ever.

Yes, @alitria! That's what I'm going to do in the future. I used to get the things on the registry that would be the cutest to open at the shower, but now I realize the boring stuff is the most needed stuff, and gift cards (or just money!) are the best.

One of the girls on my bmb made a blanket for her baby (not a knitted blanket or anything -- just two pieces of fabric sewn together) and she said it was so easy it's going to be her go-to shower gift from now on. I've been working really hard on my registry, researching everything I need, so the idea of someone ignoring it is a bit maddening.

Yeah I'm definitely realizing that with the exception of a few clothes, a car seat, a pack'n'play, and some diapers I really don't want/need anything else quite yet! Gift cards are brilliant. Plus, it's not exactly fun to buy people breastfeeding supplies and diaper cream even though that's what we all really need.

Oh, man! I wish people would have done gift cards! I would have loved that. I was appreciative for the gifts folks gave, but almost everything was NOT from the registry. Lots of toys and such that are fun now, but were not what I needed for a newborn.

@Wyattnash00 Gripe Water is amazing stuff. I was skeptical but it took us a while to figure out what formula wouldn't make my kid scream in pain from gas every time he ate and that stuff was the only thing that helped. I kept a bottle at home and a bottle in my diaper bag until he was a year old and thing settled down. DEFINITELY a good thing to have because it's one of the few things you can actually use when they're tiny! We also got the ok from our ped to use infant probiotics after I realized the breast feeding just wasn't happening and we just added a tiny bit into his bottles and they also really helped. And now, I think I'll go tack a couple of bottles of Gripe Water on to my registry.....

Baby socks or booties? I feel like I've heard not to bother because they always fall off, but don't I need something to cover her feet in the winter? Our house can get drafty and a lot of the outfits we inherited are onesies and footless leggings.

Booties! Or some footie pajamas from a used kids clothing store. My kiddo lived in footies for months (also a drafty house) and I got them super cheaply at the used clothing store. This time, I plan to get some booties too. The zutano (I think) booties look well designed to stay on. Also, little soft leather "shoes" did a good job of staying on. Socks just fall off.

We did socks and these amazing things called "Sock Ons" that you can order on Amazon. They were the only thing that kept her socks on. They go over the socks and are fitted and hold them on.

Also really like footie jammies.

We had footie jammies forever, still wears them. But the first few months he was in a onesie and swaddled so feet were never out for long. Socks never stay in a newborn. But I do find the only socks that do stay on are the old navy ones, obsessed. I didn't put Wyatt in shoes until after he was 1.

I second the zutano booties suggestion. That's the only thing that stayed on DS for the first few months, plus they're super cute!

Glad I'm having a summer baby! I won't have to worry too much about covering his feet right away. I do have a package of newborn socks, but I guess I should be glad they're from Old Navy? Those Zutano booties are adorable though. I think I may need to make an excuse to get some... are they still useful at 3-6mo?

The reviews online of zutanos say they run small. Have you all found that to be true? I guess it probably depends on the chubbiness of the baby...

@redheadbride15, I used them until DS was about 9 months or so and then switched to the soft leather robeez, so I would definitely go for it!

@BernieRae, my little guy was under 6lbs at birth and never cleared the 20th percentile for weight, so I never had an issue with the booties running small. That said, if you have a big baby (or maybe even average) they could run on the small side.

Robeez! That's the soft leather shoe I was trying think of the name of! They're great. We started using them around 9 mo too. Though I got the Robeez knock-offs at target.

@bernieRae, we have the marathon, absolutely love it!! My brother had it for years and strongly recommended. It looks like the click tight is the latest version, top of the line, can't go wrong with either! Is this your only car seat or are you doing a bucket first?
