It took 2.5 hours to put my stubborn, butthead son to bed last night.
It's a good thing he's the cutest kid on the face of the planet because I was ready to haul him back to the hospital and demand a refund last night. I've still got the receipt, I would have gotten my money back.
Totally forgot to mention my aunt that has schizophrenia when they were doing the family history review. I was thinking about it all day, don't know how I forgot
My son has developed an obsession with yoyos. I have no idea why this has happened, but he will not shut up about wanting this $20 yoyo from a particular online store.
I told him to earn enough to buy it himself if he wants it that bad. Apparently, he thinks whining will be more successful (and I don't know why. We have a rule in our house "whining means no.")

I told my husband we couldn't go hiking like we usually do on the weekends today because I wanted to rake, mow and re-seed the yard for spring. I raked about 2 square feet of yard and then laid down on the grass because I was exhausted and dizzy. DH wound up doing all of that while I sat on the patio like a bum and played with DD and puppy. He hasn't even complained about it. I love my husband.
ETA: I feel your pain @HomeyDontPlayThat. That kind of evening is bad enough when you ARE allowed to have a stiff cocktail once the kid is finally asleep. Yuck.

Oh my gosh, that's adorable. I remember when YoYos were a big thing at my school. And marbles, those were HUGE when I was elementary school. My parents were too cheap to buy me any so I had to buy $3 worth of fish tank marbles and then I won the rest of my hoard hustling the 6th graders.
My thumbs could have been a contender. Good on you for not letting the whine work. Mow the lawn kid!

I died laughing at this. Almost snorted my coffee. It reminds me so much of when we moved into our old apartment and I was 7 months pregnant. I was so gung ho to paint these gray stripes in the nursery, I hauled all the paint supplies in our new, empty apartment and made a cute pile in the middle of the soon to be Nursery. It was 70 degrees out, I was huge and I ended up taking one look at the tape, rulers, rollers and paint and just swan dived onto the floor and stared at the ceiling for half hour.
@Roxell I've never gone shrooming. I'm not sure if that would be a choice in our neck of the woods, but I do love mushrooms! We usually just go out on one of the trails near our house for the morning/early afternoon. Nothing too crazy since we have to be home for DD's nap around 12:30-1, but it's nice to get out in the woods for a while.
@SRose109 I actually hate mushrooms, I just like to find them We have a good area for morels. We usually get so many we end up selling a bunch. They can go for $60/lbs
Oh man, I remember Pogs. Then "magic cards" became popular. I went to a Catholic school and my religion teacher thought that they were Satan's work, and she banned them. One day we had a fire alarm. Once we got outside my teacher said "I didn't know if it was a drill or not, so I grabbed the box of rosaries." This one kid goes, "Oh good! A box to put my magic cards in!" She about fainted.

We went through a marbles phase (I gave him mine from when I was a kid) And Pokemon cards and games. Among other kid fads.
The way we work it is that the kids have their usual, expected chores they are just expected to do, but they can do some other stuff to earn pocket money if they want. Like cleaning the cat box or bird cages, for instance.
The 'whining means no' rule has been in place since my oldest was a toddler. You'd think they'd have figured out by now that we don't ever give in to whining or nagging. Present me a well-constructed argument and I'll consider your request. Otherwise, the answer is no.

My oldest insisted that everyone has to wear a red shirt today because DH put on a red shirt. Only half the family has weather appropriate red shirts. He was a little sad that we all couldn't match but was super happy that he and his baby sister could match DH.
Happy Saturday, ladies! My random of the day was the fact that I lucked out in turning the TV on just to catch the last 10 min of Marley and Me. Now, normally I cry during this part because I adore dogs, but the split second I realized what was on, I started sobbing uncontrollably and talking (shouting?) to myself about how my own dog is going to be 7 this year and he's getting so ooooolllllddddd. I then proceeded to make him come inside and hugged (held him captive) for a solid 5 min. Thank goodness it was just me and the dog at home. DH would never let me live that one down! Damn, these hormones!

Oh pogs!! My brother and I owned cylinders of them. He actually played the game I didn't...I just was about the trading aspect. No clue how to even play.
@HomeyDontPlayThat no clue how to play marbles either so I'm glad you represented and hustled those big kids! Did they pick on you for the fish marbles? I just know kids are mean.
@NatashaSprout I'm in awe of everything you do. Is there anything you don't do?!

I wish I had a green thumb. My plants die and now my trees are dying! They caught a palm disease that has been spreading like crazy here. I'm going to have to replace them. I know I'm getting a few magnolias but I'm not sure what else I want. Is there a website or book you like that can tell me what grows well in my area? Or maybe I should just go to the nursery and ask?
Awesome Kid #1: Born September 2013! Awesome Kid #2: Due November 2016!
@Roxell can you call the nurse and ask if it's important for the family review? Always worth mentioning. Pregnancy brain is real dude. Worst part is, it turns into Mom brain. Also, Pogs didn't last super long in my school for some reason. It might have been going on right when I went into Junior High
@AdmiralKitty my pregnancy horseshoe shaped pillow is my 2nd husband. I catch my 1st husband snuggling it MOTN and I get territorial. It is a godsend, my favorite product right now. Enjoy those Zzzz's
@aquasocks I didn't go to Catholic school, but my Mom is mega Catholic and banned everything. The Simpsons, Prince, Michael Jackson, Married with Children, Ouija boards, fortune cookies....it goes on and on. I still feel guilty for reading my horoscope sometimes (only for fun, I don't buy into that)
@natashasprout I am the youngest of 5, I HAD to hustle! Haha!
@sarahdiana I can't even with that movie. The book made me sob, the movie made me sob, it's just masochistic to watch it while pregnant. I need to cuddle my cat now.
@jstinkz the funny is about that, fish marbles look just like regular marbles but a fraction of the price. I got these gorgeous opal looking ones with colored glass flecks that were a big hit. But yeah, kids are assholes. I'm getting nervous about someone picking on my son. He's at that age where he's super social and I might accidentally shove a brat off the play structure if they're mean to him.
@AlexLindzz My Mom delights in telling everyone that I used to eat her stashed away $18 Clinique lipsticks as a kid. The wax squishes very satisfyingly between the teeth. At least your 2 y/o picked a good flavor
@aquasocks a reputable nursery is a great place to start...not a big box store with a plant section. Also Davesgarden.com has really good info after you learn how to navigate it. My rule of thumb is its hardy in my garden until I kill the same species 3 times. I'll try and try and try. Though trees tend to be more pricey. I just bought a Chi Chi Gingo tree and trying to learn about it. A lot is knowing your soil type and PH. Putting an acid loving water loving plant next to an alkaline plant that prefers a sandy dry soil is a double death waiting to happen. I have disposable soil testers (haha like bulk IC pregnancy tests). Also, at the start of every season I purchase large amounts of beneficial insects ready to feast on intruders. You can buy a gallon of lady bugs for about 35.00. Nematodes, lacewings and we just put 25 cases of praying mantids out.
One of my old roommates just wrote a post on Facebook about how she's sad her betta fish just died... which would have been fine had she not included an up-close photograph of said dead betta fish. WTF, girl??!
What We Did On Our Holiday is a hilarious film (David Tennant and Billy Connolly both being very, very Scottish) and I put it on for background noise since I've seen it several times before.
Haven't got a damn thing done for the past hour.

@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt it's cold and raining here. The dogs (4) and kids (2) are all inside. I'm sitting here watching everyone. Lord knows with a 3500 square foot house all 6 have to be in a 10x10 area. I don't want to get up because one of them will get in my way, or follow me and I know I will snap. I am doing everyone a service by just sitting here.
@natashasprout Sounds like my house. Trying to write (have a research thing I need to send to my groupmates today) and I had both kids, three cats, and two birds on my office couch instead of in the huge playroom they have specifically for them to play in.

@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt I always wished we had a playroom. My brother lives in the WHOLE basement and The guest room is too small. This house is large, just poorly laid out. I have a room we call the sitting room. It's a randomly open room connected to the dining room that leads to the patio. Not sure what it's used for. We don't even have space for this baby let alone a play room but it's on top of my list if we buy a new house.
@natashasprout Dedicated kid space, and a room that could become my office, were requirements when we were picking out our house here. I got absolutely sick of there constantly being toys in the living room and having no adult-dedicated entertainment space. We made the rec room up to be super kid-friendly - chalkboard table, gaming systems, most of their toys and books - but they still always want to be in my bloody office, which has no toys, just the one couch, and lots of books.

@HomeyDontPlayThat fortune cookies?? Wow! My religion teacher also taught us that horoscopes are evil. My parents were laid back about that stuff but my dad was raised very Catholic and he was very strict about us watching any tv that had sexual references. Like, I was allowed to watch the most violent and bloody movies, but if someone started hooking up... No way. I think he was just uncomfortable watching that stuff with his kids so I guess I don't blame him.
@NatashaSprout pH levels! Yes I think I need to look into that before I buy new trees. I am so sad. We have 6 30+ft palms. They would cost tens of thousands to replace. So I'm going with some smaller trees like magnolias and maybe some fruit trees.
@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt We also wanted a playroom in our house. Whatever she's playing with ends up in the living room. So it's more like a toy storage room! But when other kids come over, they will play in there which is nice.

My tot woke at 530 am and refuses to nap. So I've put the TV on and let that babysit until h gets off work. All I wanted was a 20 min nap. Is that so hard kiddo? Anyways that's my day today.

I now just saw there were two Ramzi posts yesterday. The thing that bugs me the most is they come across so selfish...don't bother to lurk/introduce/show any support or interest in getting to know us. They probably go to every November '16 community just to get a tally of who says girl/boy. FFS.
@Roxell YES! We go shrooming around here too. Love finding Morels... I know we could sell them... but I like eating them too much. mmmmmm now I'm hungry.
My snoogle is in my Amazon basket, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. My doggy is such a cuddler at night and I'm worried about where he will go with the snoogle.
Been a super productive day so far. Bagels at Panera w DH, then pedicures. I've created a monster with him and pedicures. He is asking me every month if it's time to go yet. Then I went to a prenatal yoga class. Was definitely too soon, since everyone was much further along than me. I am just super out of shape and the slow relaxing pace was nice. Then a nap and now killing time now before trying a new taco place. This day has been awesome!
@MandersX YES tacos! I've been waiting for dinner time all day just so I can eat tacos!
I've had a pretty productive day today too. Swept and mopped, did dishes, did lots of laundry and cleaned the outside of my cupboards (they are white so they need a good scrubbing occasionally). Now my house is clean so I can relax the rest of the weekend. I was gonna go for a hike but it started raining. Perhaps tomorrow.
Something I never thought my husband would say to me, "Emily, stop jerking off that fern."
We were at the garden center trying to get ideas and I saw this awesome fern called 'foxtail fern'. I've never seen it before and it basically has a bunch of foxtail like plumes all growing out of the base. It felt really cool and obviously I didn't realize how inappropriate I looked. May have to buy one for my house so I can enjoy it and not be judged by society.
