  • Thanks @redheadbride15!! Always just see siblings fighting, eeek. Love your challenge for yourself. Forging new relationships is so hard, look how far you've come! Plus look at all the cool internet 'older' friends you have now!

welcome @leksiL! We must have posted at the same time as I didn't see yours this am:)

  • @lillebowsi23 I second the recommendation for a prenatal massage! I've had two so far and just scheduled a third for next week. Actually, I just scheduled two fun things for next week. Massage on Wednesday evening AND a dinner date with DH at a fancy restaurant Thursday evening. We received a gift card for this restaurant as a wedding gift (a year ago!) and we're finally getting to use it because the restaurant is near the hospital and we're going on an L&D tour so I figured this was the perfect excuse. Yay!

Oh and good luck talking to your dad... that's a tough situation.

  • Good luck with your dad talk @lillebowski23:) I've had issues with my dad off/on my whole life. No matter how good of a communicater you are or how old you are, it's always hard, keep us posted. Definitely want to address any issues before baby arrives

  • Yay! My favorite part of the week! I love the updates too.

@lillebowski23 -- I'm sorry to hear about the situation you're dealing with with your Dad. I hope the discussion goes as well as possible.  Good for you for being willing to talk with him, though. It sounds really necessary, even though it may well be unpleasant...

@wyattnash00 -- I have moments of panic about what a sibling will do to my kiddo too. But then I remember how much I love my little brother and I am so excited that he will have a little sister to love. I'm sure there will be adjustments and there will undoubtedly be fights. But I like to remember that our love doesn't get divided--it gets multiplied. And I'm sure that will be the case for him too. It's going to be an adventure, for sure!

How far along are you? EDD? 20w 4d Due 9/12

How are you feeling? I'm feeling good! I am definitely having to "rotisserie" myself in bed a lot (thanks for the term, @Wyattnash00 -- it's just right!) and getting some sore hips, but it's okay. I'm also starting to feel winded after normal activities like stair climbing and/or carrying my son (kudos to you for being up for trying a real hike, @redheadbride15 !) I can tell we're entering that "really getting big" phase of pregnancy. I love that phase, but it does come at a price. :)

Do you feel baby kicks? Where do you feel them?   I do! I mostly feel them on the sides of my belly--often the right side. I think this is because of my anterior placenta (which looked frickin' huge on the U/S!). I also feel rolling--just feels like a lot of pressure right now, but when she's bigger, that's going to be some fun "alien" movement to watch. I don't feel her all the time yet, but she's still little. Excited for when I get to feel her more often.

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) We have our follow-up echocardiogram on 5/9. Just 10 days or so to go.

Rants/Raves/Questions: My rave is about all of the support we have gotten here, from in-person friends, and from friends-of-friends since we found out about the concerns the doctors noticed at our anatomy scan. It has been so encouraging and heart-warming. I've been praying a ton for our gal, and I know others have too, both near and far. I can honestly say that, right now, I have a real peace about the situation. I feel concerned, of course, but I don't feel anxious. I feel confident that God's got this and I am praying fervently that she will just be completely healthy and it's been wonderful to hear stories of that being the case. Waiting for 5/9 feels totally do-able. I'm having fun thinking about names and starting to look at clothes, etc. It's been good. We're not in denial about the possibilities, but both my DH and I are super hopeful. The support here has been a big part of that--thank you! (Also--my current front-runner for a name is Willa. It means "resolute protector," which I love. And it's soft without being too soft, I think. Our last name has lots and lots of hard sounds -- "Ks" and long "Es" -- so I want a first name that doesn't have any hard consonants. Anyway. I'm open to feedback.  DH is currently mulling it over).

GTKY: What is something you have always wanted to try but have been to afraid to? (Food, a class, a hobby, a sport?) I desperately want to learn to play stringed instruments! I own a guitar, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele and cannot play any of them! It turns out, I'm not one of those folks who can "self-teach" on this particular skill. I can do that with a lot of other things, but not this. I need to get the guts (and finances) together to actually take lessons. I kind of envision doing that with my kids someday--mommy and me guitar lessons sound fun, right?
  • Love love the name Willa!! @sporty1216!! And the meaning! You have such a kickass attitude about everything and that attitude effects 'willa' too:)

good for for you going for that hike @redheadbride15! I did a 2 mile hike last week, it was tough. I used to run that, ugh, had to stop many times to catch my breath. But hey, still moving right :p

  • @jilligan14 Sorry but your bra rant made me laugh. I'm sorry it's frustrating for you but I have been there so many times! I feel your pain. First of all, ignore sizes entirely. You are guaranteed to be a different size in different stores and brands. A while back (way pre-pregnancy) I was on a massive search for the right bra and was measured and fitted at at least 5 different places and told at least 5 drastically different sizes. I've been told I was anywhere from like a 32E to a 38C. In the end I found one size in one brand/style that fit me and I have bought nothing else in the past 10 years (for reference I like the Maidenform T-shirt bra, pre-pregnancy size 34D). Now of course pregnancy has totally messed that up as I have gone up one cup size and one band size, but I still stuck with the same brand/style and that was working for a while. It's gotten really uncomfortable though with the underwires so now taking off my bra is the very first thing I do when I come home at the end of the day. I have no idea what will happen when I start lactating!

@jilligan14 oh gurlllll I feel ya! I was a 34G pre pregnancy and now I'm trying on 36-38 H-J. I like the bravado dream nursing tank it comes in larger sizes and I can wear it under a nice shirt/dress like a bra+ undershirt. I also love wacoal "t-shirt" underwire bras they have a loose fit that I can wear for a long time, and they still support me.

@Sporty1216 I love Willa! I think it's absolutely perfect! And may 9th will be here so fast. Grow baby girl grow!

@redheadbride15 you are a rock star for saying yes to the hike!

@wyattnash00 enjoy your last few weeks with your oldest LO!!! Exciting and bittersweet is totally the way many new adventures begin.

@lillebowski23 oh man that is rough! Family dynamics are so hard to break through, we all get so set in out ways. Dont be afraid to bring in outside help if you need it, I swear sometimes we treat our family members so poorly and we'd never do that to a stranger. Good luck we are here if you need us!!

@mamafesto i'd come see your rock show

welcome to the "geriatric mama's club" @leksiL!!
  • Ooh! Surfing is one of mine too, @createillumination ! My brother tried to teach me a couple of times, and I even got up once! It was exhilarating. But not actually living near the ocean anymore limits my opportunities. Haha. I bet after becoming a good boogie boarder, you'll be that much more prepared to become a surfer!
  • I love the orange image, @CarrieandRoy ! Do you think it's her bum? Or her head? And, I do feel pretty excited about the name, but I'm not DH is on board...yet. Haha. Good thing there is plenty of time. ;)
  • @CarrieandRoy I hope your girl arrives in july!!! In california the kids do school year round so I think they actually go back in july nowadays. I find that sad and astonishing!
  • @Sporty1216 -- I wonder the same thing!  I'm guessing it's her head because she probably has a tiny little butt at this point (unlike her mom!). My nephews were 5 weeks premature and had small, flat butts when they were born. Delightfully round butt cheeks appeared later. I've got photos to prove it. :)

  • @redheadbride15 It's a relief to hear that I'm not the only one who has been told wildly different bra sizes from different stores. I never had many bra struggles in my pre-pregnancy life because I was a dancer and mostly lived in sports bras anyway. I did have a few nice cotton bras I'd bought at Target but never struggled with size issues - maybe it's easier when your breasts are small (meaning there's less variation between styles/brands)? I've never had to deal with big boobs before and suddenly real support is way more important. I'm also worried what will happen when my milk comes in. I've heard that your boobs transform into giant globes.

@createillumination I'll have to check out that nursing tank. Unfortunately I can't seem to handle any underwires at all, my belly just pushes right up into them. But who knows how I'll feel once baby is here and the bump shrinks? Right now my boobs kind of rest on my belly. It's pretty funny.

@CarrieandRoy I'm wondering if that's the bra I bought from the maternity store the other day (before I bought the more expensive one). It doesn't feel as supportive for me but maybe I should give it another try. It definitely is a more cheaper option! I honestly only need one good bra because I wear sports bras most of the time but like a nice bra for going out and when I'm not teaching/working out. I got some bra extenders on Amazon (they are super cheap!) and it did help me get some more life out of my older bras, although I can't seem to wear anything from my pre-pregnant wardrobe anymore. That's exciting about seeing the baby from the outside! I still haven't seen much movement from the outside, except for the occasional belly button pulse.

What do you guys think of the name Oscar? DH and I were watching something the other night and the baby's name was Oscar. We both kind of liked it but we're still not completely sure. We also like August and Jack.

  • @jilligan14 haha yeah boobs resting on belly is definitely a feature of pregnancy. I absolutely hate the way I look without a super-supportive shaping bra, with my giant breasts just sagging over my huge belly. I think that's why I remain so attached to underwires, despite the fact that they're uncomfortable.

Yeah, I think that's why I bought that one underwire bra - my boobs look really great in it! But ugh, when I sit down it's soooo painful! Also, when I get up in the morning my boobs actually stick to my belly (before I put on a bra). It's getting worse now that it's getting hot here. I think it's time to start sleeping in a sleep bra too.

  • For what it's worth, I've read that underwires aren't always the best for when you're nursing. Apparently, if there are pressure points, they can cause blocked ducts (which can then lead to mastitis and stuff--no fun). Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, but just wanted to toss that out there. :) the cheap cross-over sleep bras from target are also awesome in my opinion. Of course, I topped out at a full C, so keep that in mind. ;)

and, @redheadbride15 -- I like all of those names! I think Oscar and August are my favorites. I knew a baby named August and they called him Augie. It was adorable.
  • How far along are you? 18 weeks 4 days EDD?
    9/27

How are you feeling? Pretty good. A little heartburn this week. Could be from a little bit of junk food I've enjoyed though...

Do you feel baby kicks? Where do you feel them? I'm feeling movement, but not many kicks.  Last night I did feel a nice kick though. It was central and upwards, a little under my navel.

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) still waiting for my 5/12 a/s

Rants/Raves/Questions: a bit of a rant. I've always been ok with DH going away for a weekend and me having time to myself. He's planning a couple of 2night backpacking trips this summer between my 29-35th week though and I'm not thrilled about it.  I think mostly since he'll be unreachable. He could rent a satellite phone, but it's expensive (~$150) and I'm not sure if that's worth it for just a couple of nights. Things happen though and aside from him not being with me, I hate to think about him not even knowing.

GTKY: What is something you have always wanted to try but have been to afraid to? (Food, a class, a hobby, a sport?)

Negotiate a raise. It makes me so nervous to talk about pay/benefits during my reviews. I get brave enough to bring it up, but have always just taken what is offered.
  • @jilligan14 it is crazy to me how hard it can be to find a bra that fits!  Sorry you're going through that frustration too. I've even tried going to a specialty shop where they don't have you browse, they just bring you bras to try on and they are supposed to be experts. I found a strapless bra for my wedding there and had a better sense of my size, but last time I went they had nothing that fit and I left empty handed! And this was before pregnancy. I currently have one bra that fits and I wear it every day :( I think I'll end up living in those tank tops in the early weeks.

I really like the name Oscar.
  • Welcome @leksiL!  Your EDD is my birthday!!  It's a great birthday! :)

How far along are you? EDD?  22w 5d, EDD 8/29/16

How are you feeling?  Just tired, still.  Heartburn is better with twice daily Pepcid.  Hips were AWFUL last night in bed.  I'm hoping it's a one time thing because with chiropractic, I've actually gotten to sleeping for 2-3 hour blocks before having to flip to the other side.  Last night, I was awake every 40-60 minutes.

Do you feel baby kicks? Where do you feel them?  Lots and lots of kicks.  I wasn't feeling a ton on the left (baby boy's side), but the ultrasound tech last week told me he's facing the center so I probably feel him more in the middle.  During the scan, she kept saying "do you feel that?"  We figured out that he's actually kicking the membrane between the babies a lot, so I don't feel it.  The little girl though - she's partying it up in there all the time.  I feel her up high (kicks) and down low (head butts and punches).  :)

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?)  Finishing up baby boy's echocardiogram this week as well as growth scans for both.  I want to talk to the perinatologist about cervical length.  Mine is still fine, but it's decreased by 0.6cm in 3 weeks.  It just makes me nervous.  :(

Rants/Raves/Questions:  Maybe a bit of a rant.  I hate this time of pregnancy.  Starting this week, the babies are "viable."  I'm so scared until about 28 weeks, which I see as the lowest gestational age I'd want to have these babies -- and I'd still prefer NOT to.

GTKY: What is something you have always wanted to try but have been to afraid to? (Food, a class, a hobby, a sport?)  Hmm.  Like others, I pretty much try things when I want to.  I'd love to learn to surf (sorry to steal the idea), but I'm not sure I have the body type or the balance to do it.  I'd also LOVE to go skydiving someday, but now that I have a kiddo and two more on the way, I'm less likely to try things I could die doing.

  • @jilligan14 I still go bra-less most of the time (working from home). Support isn't something I really need. I honestly just wear bras in public so I don't look nipply. My boobs do rest on my belly when I sit, though, which is comical. I've never been a busty girl. (But as the song says, I've got an LA face and an Oakland booty :) )  So if any of you are looking for a supportive bra, the link I posted probably isn't for you. It's super comfortable, though!

  • @jilligan14 Oscar and Jack were both on my list but my DH didn't like them (he said Oscar reminded him too much of Oscar the grouch, but I have an acquaintance with a son named Oscar and he's awesome so I love the name!). Jack is a family name (it's my dad's middle name, and was his uncle's name) so I'm very partial to it. I actually really wanted to give my son my dad's name somehow, but we couldn't get my dad's FN to work as a middle name with any of our preferred FNs, and DH didn't like Jack as either a FN or MN. I'm happy with what we have though, because this LO will have DH's father's name as a MN which is equally worthy. But I'm determined that if I ever have a second son (getting ahead of myself here!) he will have my dad's name somehow.

  • @emsmama15 the closer I get to viability, it seems the more my PGAL brain is raging. I am just terrified of having a micropremie. DS was very late preterm and we don't know why. I'm not on progesterone or having any follow up cervical checks and I just have this fear that making it to 36+ weeks last time was a fluke. Most of the time I can talk myself down, but I will just feel so much better when I get to 30 weeks. I can't imagine working in the NICU and constantly having a reminder. Here's crossing everything that all of our little ones stay put for a good long while!
  • FX for you both @Mamafesto and @emsmama15! Pgal brain is real and I sympathize with the worry for you mama's!!
  • @emsmama15, I've been dealing with that hip pain for quite a while now. And my husband hates when I roll over because it wakes him. These days I sleep on a fluffy blanket with a body pillow. And I take Tylenol. It doesn't solve it, but it helps. I think I need to upgrade to an even fluffier blanket, though. Last night was particularly bad and I'm dreadfully exhausted.
