So, I've always been told that belly buttons pop out when you are pregnant, but mine hasnt. Does this mean these is something wrong? Is my baby too small? I'm really worried!

Re: Belly Button

  • Mine pops out sometimes, other times it goes back in. I think the placement of your belly button is the least of concerns in terms of how well baby is doing but if you're really worried you should call your doctor

  • They don't all pop. My husband was freaked out about mine popping and the midwife told him they don't all pop out, after she made a joke about them popping out like turkey timers.

One of my friends had an innie until the day she gave birth! Mine has stretched out and is pretty much flat and odd looking.
  • Also, my uneducated opinion is that it might be a sign that the baby has a large head that's pushing against your tummy.
  • I can pull my belly button out and make it an outie. I showed my OB and he flipped out because he said that I was actually tugging on my LOs umbilical cord. I had NO idea!

Be grateful your belly button is flat and you can't do this. It's very hard to have self control and not play with your belly button when it's an outie. I liked to flick it and now I can't. :(
Exactly!!! See OP. Talk to your OB, get the facts.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. This is your belly button we're talking about, and as everyone knows - the state of your belly button directly corresponds to how healthy your baby is.
And also @HBamama2B it's possible OP has a longer umbilical cord which is causing her iron deficiency!!!!! Longer cord means you need MORE red blood cells -DUHHH
Ah, I see. That makes sense since mine is leaned more back and it can be caused by either position or cord length! Thanks!!!!

But wouldn't that mean the innie would pop to an outie? I'm so confused right now, people.
  • I've always heard it's like a turkey timer. It'll pop when it's time to come out. My drug dealer's didn't ever pop and her son was born at 43 weeks.
Thank you for chiming in with your wisdom, Shannon!! It's always nice to have reassurance from internet strangers :)<3

Also, please @HBamama2B stop personally attacking so many loyal bumpies! We love our pregnancies and don't need to be treated like dirty snatch trash by mean girls like you. (No offense)
Umm? Squeeze me? Baking powder? No one was attacked. This thread and most especially my posts just contain honest feedback and factual information for OP. It's not an attack to call a silly question silly, it's just TRUTH.

  • Mine is currently half innie and half outie.  What does THAT mean???  Does it matter which half is which??

Oh my gosh! All I did was ask a question! I didn't know I was going to get flamed. I have zero prior experience at being pregnant and just wanted some advice. I see now why people thing there are "exclusive mean girls" on this board!

Seriously, a poll to make fun of me?  Low!
That was not at all my intention, @sdnybrk1. I honestly didn't know. Clueless FTM here.
