Let's talk about underwear!

Pretty much all my underwear is from VS. Most of it is either thongs (lacy & cottony) or cotton blend string bikini. Now that my vagina is unpredictable, I've been staying away from the thongs. I'm pretty happy with the string bikinis but was curious if there's anything out there that is amazingly comfortable without being too granny-pantyish or wedgie-inducing.

So tell me ladies, what are you sporting these days?

Re: Let's talk about underwear!

  • I wear a lot of the "hipster" style panties (low rise, but still a good amount of butt coverage).  My bump isn't enormous yet, so they still sit pretty comfortably below it in the front.  I've found that DH's boxer-briefs are really comfortable to lounge in, though I'm not sure how they'd look under my clothes!  They are like extra-stretchy legging shorts.  I'm interested in what you S+TM's have to say for later pregnancy.  I can't see going commando all summer being a viable option!

  • I've actually been LOVING hanky panky thongs. I started wearing them recently at my sister's suggestion and they are just so delightful. I know they are thongs and you aren't looking for that, but they seem to have a wider crotch than most thongs and oh man they are so comfy! The downside is that they are a bit pricey ~$20 a pair, but since they are one sized fits most, I can see myself wearing them post pregnancy, too.
  • I wore my usual VS cotton low rise briefs for most of my last pregnancy. The last 2 months or so they got snug, so I switched to the no show low rise briefs. They are nylon/spandex so there is more stretch and room to grow. They're very comfortable as well. I've got more of the no show than cotton undies now, but still wearing both for now.

  • I'm a thong girl, through and through.  I wore them all the way through my pregnancy with DD and only switched to granny panties afterwards due to the post-delivery bleeding and stuff (too much for a thong to contain).  I had a friend who was shocked that I was still wearing thongs at 38weeks pregnant...  "What if you go into labor!?" she asked incredulously.  "Well, if my water breaks it's not like any other underwear would be any more of a barrier.  And if you're just worried about who's going to see my underwear...who would that be, exactly?  And why would they care?"  Lol  I get not wanting to wear thongs due to the "unpredictable vagina" reasoning, though.  But have no suggestions for you.

  • I went on a hunt for good underwear about a year ago. Here are my top 3:

    1) Eberjey - I love their undies for comfort, stretchiness, and they look good. They are expensive, but I have good luck finding them on sale, last fall I got 6 or 7 pair for $7 each. Good thongs and bikini styles.

    2) Gap Body - tons of styles that fit well for me, and very easy to find a sale. Reasonably priced.

    3) Hanky Panky - I would rank these with Eberjey, probably higher, love the styles and they last forever, but ranked lower because I can never find them on sale and have to pay full price. Because of this, I don't have many.

I am 21w5d still in my pre pregnancy undies. Wondering if/when I will need to move to a different style!

  • I wear VS The Lacie brand thongs.  Nothing else is comparable to me.  I wore them through my last pregnancy and had no issues.

  • ok...what about bras??  I had nursing bras from my last pregnancy...and though i was pregnant and still nursing and using those bras (just a few months back!), i feel like now none of them fit right and are very uncomfortable...yet i don't necessarily want to buy new ones??  How long are bras good for?  Is there a brand you particularly liked?

  • I love the VS lace bikinis. I feel they don't give me nearly the same amount of wedgies as cotton... Lol I hope to keep wearing them throughout.

  • I'm with you ladies on the VS undies- I just can't do thongs anyway, they were never comfy for me. I personally love the VS low rise boy shorts, and DH says they're his fave too lol. I did buy a handful of "granny"-esque underwear- and they are comfy but they come up partway on my bump now and the waistband hits by my belly button- and sometimes gives a small indentation in my bump which I don't like. I'm probably going to just buy more VS boy shorts in a larger size for now :)

  • I wear VS thongs, cheekies, and boy shorts, and rotate through them all the way through.  The only time I needed other underwear last time was postpartum, and I used the disposable stretchy underwear.

I actually like the ones from motherhood maternity. All different styles and it feels like you have none on. I had to switch as my normal ones were starting to bother my csection scar but per the sales person they have had non pregnant women people continue to buy them as they are so comfortable.
  • @RedMar OMG, that's awful and hilarious at the same time.  I guess it's the thought that counts? :joy:

  • @RedMar that's awesome! LOL so thoughtful

I'm with @JLmama118 on the grannies. I prefer to call them my "workin drawers" though. I wear unisex scrubs at work that are baggy and having a little tiny thong on feels weird like I'm naked.
  • @RedMar I don't even know how to handle that. Trash them. Definitely trash them.

  • Rocking the granny underpants!!

Comfort, I'm already pregnant- no need to match or look sexy. Lol
  • @RedMar *insert barf emoji*

@ElcaB Thanks for this thread!! I'm now limited to my VS thongs since they're low rise and super comfy. Luckily, the vag isn't too into throwing up major discharge yet..

Will be checking out the hanky panky underwear!
  • The Costco panties with the stretchy lace waistbands are so great. So comfy, and sit right under the bump. I'm happier with full bottom coverage, but love low riders. I've bought these for girlfriends as a little bonus gift to a sexy lingerie shower gift and they've loved them too!
  • @RedMar NOOOOOOO!!!!! OMG!!! I would have died!!! Oh toss them! Gave me a good laugh though! :)

@redmar--that sounds like something my MIL would do if my SILs hadn't all had their babies 16+ years ago! Yikes!
  • I love the motherhood maternity bikini underwear; they are cut different than regular underwear. I waited too long to try some, when I was pregnant with my DD. this time around, I got some right away.

  • All you ladies with thongs, how?
I guess I have insane discharge and need a pad daily. It's gross and a few colors that are uncommon. I thought I had an infection- been tested twice. But hey, there's not creeping crud in my vajazz and all is good. I'm just special I guess.... I wish it was a more pleasant "special" haha
  • @RedMar Wait, what??! I've never heard of anyone being given used undies before!!

Also, I'm a thong girl... wear them just about every day. I need some new ones though and have had good luck with the Target ones that are like 5/$20, lacy, stretchy, comfy, and not too pricey! As a big booty girl, anything else I try to wear just ends up in a wedgie anyway, so I might as well just start off the day like that :)

@netsirk2013 I think it's pretty normal to have lots of discharge with pregnancy, I just haven't really had that yet at this point, so I've been good with my regular undies so far.

@netsirk2013, vajazz is my new favorite word. Thank you.

@RedMar, I am dying. Used underwear between sisters is a thing I can deal with, but used postpartum underwear should be burned at the stake. I wouldn't even keep my OWN used postpartum underwear!
  • Cheeky hipsters and boy shorts here always. My husband prefers them to thongs which is nice since I find them far more comfortable. I don't like the pads sit in them so I do have some cotton briefs for periods/post partum. Everything has to be low cut all the time though donto my c section scar.

  • I wore my regular VS Pink lace/cotton things until the end last time. I did get some full-back underwear from Target that I wore occasionally and to bed. Their no-show bikini briefs are pretty good.

  • I wear fruit of the loom bikini cut. They come in a pack of 5-10 and are fairly inexpensive. They are low rise so they don't bother my bump. And since they're cheap, I don't mind replacing them more often. I try to wear my VS or lane Bryant undies only on special occasions because they aren't the most comfortable
  • @JLmama118 - I'm so happy you posted! I didn't even want to open this thread because I was like, Underwear? Who cares?  I buy mine by the pack (sometimes the 5/$20 at Target if they have good ones), but mostly Fruit of the Loom, hipsters.. I mean how can you go wrong for a 5 pack 6 pack (there's always a bonus pair!) of undies?  I don't have much of a butt and luckily it doesn't expand in pregnancy so I wore my own underwear through pregnancy, and post-partum last time and will do the same this time.

I even put them back on in the hospital because those ginormous mesh underwear that everyone seems to love.. would NOT hold the pad in place and I felt super uncomfortable with a pad just dangling away in there. Hoping to not even wear the meshies this time!!

  • I'm super cool and sew my own bikini style briefs. They are like heaven on my bum. Seriously. If I'm out of Owlcup made undies though, I just wear Fruit of the Loom cheapies. Comfort over cuteness is my motto for clothing now. :P

  • Holy moly there's a lot of ladies who love thongs on here! I haven't worn a thong since college, lol. And even then, it was only on special occasions.

Anyway, I recently discovered Soma undies and I loooove them. I bought up a ton of the hipsters. They're comfy and low cut enough that I should be able to wear them through the whole pregnancy, plus super cute and lacy!
  • I ordered this bra and it's uber comfortable (but then again I don't have big boobs): https://www.amazon.com/Hanes-Ultimate-T-Shirt-Wirefree-Heather/dp/B00XNCMM3K/

I usually wear nothing but VS thongs or cheekies but this pregnancy (3rd) I just want to be comfortable. I did some research and decided to try out these from Motherhood. They are honestly the most comfortable panties I have ever worn. They will also be great for post partum (scheduled c-section) since they have a higher waistline. They are $19.99 for a 3 pack but I waited til they went on sale for buy one get one 50%off. Definitely worth the investment.

  • I wear the VS Pink cotton thong, the ones with about 1-2 inch wide lace all around the top and was able to wear them through both my precious pregnancies and still up to 19 weeks with this one. They're very comfortable and never dig in even with the growing lower carrying baby this 3rd time around.

I have maternity bikini cut. I still use some of my regular bikini cut, but the maternity ones are lower, so more comfy on my tummy. Oh, and liners help a lot. :)

  • I loathe thongs. I never got stretch marks with my first 2 pregnancies- I was blessed with 'roids... thongs are my enemy.
I'm with you on the 'roids. I got them birthing my first, and they are worse now that I'm pregnant again. I can't imagine getting anywhere near a thong right now.

Fruit of the loom granny panties FTW. So comfortable, tons of stretch, and like 8 bucks for a pack of 5 at Walmart. The full coverage is also great for post partum giant pads.
Came here to say this. Embrace the granny panty!
