Sorry I am a day late posting this discussion.

This is where you can share your health and fitness plan with other mamas-to-be as well as ask health and fitness related questions!

Re: weekly health & fitness check-in (4/25)

  • Fitness goal? Yoga and walk 10,000 steps everyday: Monday- done and done!

Health goal? Meal plan and grocery shop. This whole eating out/scrounging every night has got to stop.

Challenges you’re facing this week? Busy week for both DH and me. Also, I had planned to grill all week but it looks like the weather will ruin that plan!

“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.” –Dr. Suess

I struggled with being painfully shy growing up and it prevented me from stepping outside my comfort zone, getting involved with things, and making friends. So basically my wisdom would be… open your eyes, take in the world, and get past your fears!

  • Fitness goal? No skipped workouts.  6 days of at least 30 minutes jogging.

Health goal? Improve my snack choices.  More fruits and vegetables, fewer pita chips and pieces of toast.

Challenges you’re facing this week? Nausea and now the constant headache are making getting out for walks with the toddler more difficult.

GTKY: What words of wisdom would you pass onto your childhood self? You'll be okay.

  • fitness goal: do the cardio workout every day this week. Body by Amy pregnancy cardio  is the youtube video I found.

health goal: eat more  raw greens!

challenges you are facing this week? none that I anticipate. Feeling better and ready to get back on the fitness horse.

gtky:what would you pass onto your childhood self? don't be so worried about success or failure.  Enjoy what you are doing and don't give up if you hit speed bumps.

  • Fitness goal? Made it back to the gym last week, and I've been doing spin class, so far going great.  Would like to add in weight training, but I'm not as motivated.  I love spin class, lifting weights not so much even though I know it's great for keeping in shape.

Health goal? Eat smaller, more frequent meals.  The heartburn is already killer.  I don't remember it being this bad so early with my first.  It's only going to get worse from here I'm guessing.  Now instead of nausea, the acid reflux at night has been getting so bad I've been throwing up at night.  Ugh.  I'll 100% take it over all day nausea, but still.  Tums and Pepcid don't even touch it.

Challenges you’re facing this week?  See above.

GTKY: What words of wisdom would you pass onto your childhood self? I had a pretty awesome childhood, so I have no complaints there.  But I did start worrying too much about how I looked and put too much stock into what other people thought of me (or what I thought they thought of me).  I guess I'd tell younger me to not worry so much about others, and just be me.  Hoping I can instill that kind of self confidence in my daughter.  I already think about mean girls and how much my heart will break for my little girl the first time someone at school hurts her feelings.  I hope she'll love herself enough to not care what others say or think.

  • Fitness goal?  Get some kind of movement every day (even if it's just walking the dogs), and a more intense workout at least 4 days this week (elliptical, yoga, barre, etc.).  Still loving my prenatal BarreAmped DVD.  I really like that the workouts are broken down into 15 minute segments, so if I only have a little bit of time I can still get a brief workout in.

Health goal?  Pay more attention to hunger cues during meals to avoid overeating.  Keep up with the meal planning and snack planning, and all of the water (even though it makes me constantly have to pee which is super annoying).  Meditate more often.

Challenges you’re facing this week?  Just motivating myself to fit workouts in, especially driving to the gym after work.

GTKY: What words of wisdom would you pass onto your childhood self?  I would tell myself my favorite Brene Brown quote..."You are imperfect and you are wired for struggle, but you are worthy of love and belonging."  I always felt like a bit of an outsider as a child for no real reason.  I think I missed out on a lot of adventures in my life because of self-doubt.  I really hope that my son has more confidence in himself as a child than I did.   I've made a lot of progress, but I'm still working my way out of that insecurity.

  • Fitness goal? Continue doing 3 workouts a week of pilates, trx and barre.

    Health goal? Eat more veggies!

Challenges you’re facing this week? I'm still in the camp of "should I modify?"  "Is this safe?"  and I find myself wanting to continue my regular workouts, but at the same time thinking I should be looking into pre-natal classes.  Can I do planks?  Can I do push-ups on my toes? Can do I knee-ins in the trx?  So many questions for all the workout moves.  I'm avoiding laying on my back, and I don't do any workouts that require me to "crunch" or "twist", but I'm still finding I have a lot of questions and sometimes google doesn't answer them or gives me conflicting info.  No one can answer my questions: my doctor can't and my trainers all give conflicting info as well.

GTKY: What words of wisdom would you pass onto your childhood self? Maybe not so much to my childhood self, but my teenage self:  "Don't let any guy determine your worth.  You don't have to prove yourself to anyone.  Stop trying too hard.  Don't wear those neon bands on your braces---not cute.  Postpone shaving.  Don't feel bad that you have a flat chest---later on it'll be easier to find clothes that fit if you're flat chested.  Don't pop the zits.  Don't give up your virginity to just any guy.  Eat ALL the ice cream and pizza NOW, and no, you're not fat."

  • @annabenanna I've always read ab exercises should be avoided after first tri.  Really I'd err on the side of caution.  I got diastasis with my first pregnancy...not sure if it was because of exercise I was doing, or the size of my baby (9lb, 7oz) but diastasis is a bitch, and I'd try to avoid it at all costs.  Planks from what I read put pressure on that middle section that holds the muscles together, especially as your belly get bigger.  I don't know how accurate that is, but I wouldn't take the chance personally.  I really wish there were more prenatal classes in my area, because I've been avoiding a lot of group exercise classes for this reason.

  • @sidecarsareforbishes , I think you're right.   I mean, I've already started doing push ups on my knees for caution, so I might as well stop doing planks (even low planks).  Sorry to hear about diastasis!  That's so scary.  Question, how did you realize you had it?  Did it suddenly hurt?
  • @annabenanna I didn't know it had happened until after the baby.  I'm not sure if they can diagnose during pregnancy, maybe they can, but the way they check after is you lay on your back with your legs bent feet on the floor and you lift your head up.  They feel around just a little above your belly button.  I was about 2 fingers width separation, and did exercises in the weeks after to eventually close it to less than a finger width.  I was checked at my post natal appointment which is when they found the ab separation...I can't remember when that is, maybe 6 weeks after birth or so?  Many have it worse than I did...I think 4 fingers and up can often require surgery to close it.

  • @sidecarsareforbishes , thanks for sharing!  I will definitely be more cautious about ab workouts.
