WWYD- temping

Thistrip is really poorly timed for my current cycle. I got a +OPK after getting home this morning (CBEFM gave me my first high reading of the cycle, but I missed yesterday. Also, since the CBEFM missed my LH surge 2 cycles ago, I've been doing cheap OPKs at the same time to make sure I get an evening read as well.)

So I may or may not be Oing in the next day or so. My problem is that my temping is going to be all screwed up because of the time change. I usually temp at around 5:30 am, but if I do that here right now, it'll be like 10:30pm in the US. What would you do? Would you just temp at 5:30 regardless and discard the temps on FF until they look normal (I have a very consistent follicular phase range and also a very consistent LP range)? But then, what's normal right now? My temp is sure to be higher than usual tomorrow morning if I temp at 5:30, so how am I supposed to know when I O'd? Any suggestions?

Re: WWYD- temping

  • Weren't you also sick this cycle? I was sick this past cycle, and my temps were completely wonky the whole month.  I never did get a high.  Of  course, I'm super new to temping (this was my 3rd month) and what do I know.

I'd say, keep temping at your routine time and discard temps, but know that anything is possible.  That way, if you miss your window this cycle, you're all primed to get back to normal later.  I imagine travel plays havoc on your whole body, especially when you are transitioning that many time zones, anyway.

  • Yes, I was sick and on antibiotics from CD2-12, so I wasn't surprised that I wasn't getting a high reading on the monitor yet (usually I get a high from about days 9-13 and peak on 13/14/15). I'm now on CD 17 and was honestly surprised to get a +OPK this morning because I figured with the stress of the trip back I'd O  even later this cycle. We'll see, I guess. Maybe this surge won't actually lead to O.

I would continue to temp as I normally would/wish to continue to do and supplement this cycle with CP etc. (ETA CP is pretty telling for me) In order to help determine O. Also you could just HIO whenever you can get a chance during possible O signs.

Flying will jack my cycle up for months but maybe you will get lucky this month or your cycle will straighten out next month.

  • I would just continue to temp at 5:30 after a solid amount of sleep. It may be a little off this month, but I think a consistent routine is better in the end.

  • I'm a bit late to this, but I'd go back to temping at your normal time and discard the temps until they're back to normal. You may not be able to pinpoint O precisely, but that won't stop you from getting pregnant anyway. Good luck this month!

  • Yeah, my temps are actually looking pretty normal. There was a high-ish one the first morning I woke up here which isn't a bit surprise since my body was confused, but even that was in my normal pre-O range. What's confusing me now is that I'm on day 4 of +OPKs and my CBEFM is only giving me high readings (no peaks). How can I continually get +OPKs but not a peak reading on the monitor? And the +OPKs are really really dark positives - no question about it, way darker than the control line. I have no clue what's going on with my body right now.

  • I've had the multiple days in a row of +OPK's before, sometimes for 5 or 6 days. It usually means your body is gearing up to O but it hasn't quite been able to make it happen, which wouldn't be surprising b/c you've been traveling and that can throw things off.

If it were me, I'd continue to DTD at least every other day until you have a clear thermal shift.

We've hit the last 3 days, but I know that if we skip today and I have a thermal shift tomorrow or Thursday, I'll be kicking myself. Sigh.

  • I say give yourself a night off. Speaking from experience, forcing yourself to DTD for days on end while you're TTC has a way of killing one's sex life. The past 3 days in a row should have you covered, especially if you DTD on Thursday too.

FWIW, the cycle I got pregnant, we DTD only every other day around the time I thought I might O. In fact, our only two attempts might have even been 2 days apart. I'm pretty sure we didn't hit the day of ovulation. But then again, my temps were all screwed up that cycle and I wasn't even sure that I ovulated, so I was pretty shocked by the + test at the end of the month. I'm not exactly super fertile either. I guess what I'm trying to say is, go easy on yourself. If there's a viable egg there ready to be fertilized, you've got it covered. Now go enjoy a night off.  ;)

  • People have the energy to DTD 3 days in a row??? My chart the month I got my bfp is AWFUL. Sex was minimal, 16 days of bleeding, temps everywhere, and then bfp at 7dpo (although I think it was actually 8dpo).

Speaking from experience, TTC can lead you to do some crazy things, especially if you've been having trouble. It's not always about energy to DTD, as much as desperation to time things right. A couple years ago while TTC during a totally crazy cycle with what seemed like endless +OPKs, we had sex for 6 nights in a row. Ugh. Never doing that again!

Exactly. It's the +OPKs that are killing me. Usually we do about EOD when the monitor says high, and when it gets to a peak reading (+OPKs), then that day and the next. I don't know what to do with 5 days of +OPKs (got another one this morning). But we did take a night off last night.

After 6 months of trying for #2 I was just exhausted. EOD was getting to be too much and I was ready to give up because I couldn't handle having that much sex in the FW anymore.

Is there any chance you could be pregnant? Have you taken a HPT? HCG will turn an OPK positive too, and multiple days of dark positives makes me wonder....

:-S I've been drinking all the wine since we got back, so I kinda hope not! But looking at my chart, I find it highly unlikely that I'm pregnant.

I know it looks like I had a thermal shift, but that was after the flight and it's still in my normal pre-O temp range (my temp usually gets up around 97.4+ in my LP). Still, you've made me paranoid and I'm going to go POAS...

ETA:  BFN, as expected. I don't think I've O'd yet (or maybe yesterday or today)
