Just coming in here to whine that we had to postpone DD's birthday party to next weekend. We're doing horseback riding and they're predicting thunderstorms for this afternoon which spooks the horses. We get thunder/lightning like once a year. Why today??? She's taking it well but is obviously sad. A week is a really long time to wait for a newly 4-year-old!
I have the stupidest little thing that's bugging me. It's so, so dumb.
I'm of Scottish descent and my side is peppered with freckled, blue or green-eyed gingers. I have reddish (sort of a light-brown-red mix) hair myself, am covered in freckles, and can get a sunburn walking to the car. I come from an area where lots of people get married in kilts and there's a high school that teaches Canadian Scottish Gaelic.
Anyway, when I pictured having kids, I always sort of envisioned having at least one redheaded child. But I ended up marrying a First Nations man, and those genes run strong. Both of our kids have very dark,stick-straight hair and they look so much like my husband and I know this next one will be similar as well. It's the silliest thing to be upset about, but I'm kind of bummed that my husband's genes are so dominant and that our kids aren't more of a mix of the both of us. I feel like I'm little better than an incubator.

@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt I totally get your disappointment. Both my brothers have had new additions to their family and we're all surprised of the opposite. We've been expecting dark brown hair with dark brown eyes and neither my niece nor nephew have them. I'm getting nervous that our future little one won't either now.
@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt I've been surprised that way too, except I'm the one part Metis. My DH is totally of European decent but has dark hair and brown eyes. It's been a total surprise that all 4 of our kids have light brown/blondish hair and only 1 has brown eyes (2 grey and 1 green). I secretly hope their hair turns dark as they get older. It's been weird that our kids don't look strongly like either of us but at least they do strongly look like siblings.
@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt I know what you mean! When I was pg with my DD I desperately wanted her to have my dark curly hair and darker skin (I'm part mexican) but she turned out with light skin and blond hair. I feel like she doesn't even look like me.
@KilgraveMadeMeDoItI feel the exact same way. I have dark hair and hazel eyes, and my husband is blond with blue eyes. He has some kind of bizarrely dominant Swedish genes from his dad though. My MIL is also dark brown hair and eyes and both of her kids got blonde hair and blue eyes. DD is blonde with blue eyes too. MIL always says she felt like she looked like the nanny when she was out with her kids and now I feel the same way.
