Crawling? Or not?

So LO will be 7 months next week and we're still trying to get this crawling thing down!...although he is making a valiant effort! Maybe he's just uncoordinated like his mommy!! And I know crawling isn't technically a milestone and all babies develop at their own pace and all that BS but I still feel like he should be crawling by now! He is sitting up by himself now with minimal tipping over (usually when trying to grab something that's to far away) and he's standing with support or when holding onto something but his method of getting from point A to point B is to just barrel roll across the room! So who's crawling and when did they start? And who's not quite there yet?

  • We are still trying to master sitting up on our own! We are not close to crawling.

  • she started crawling about a week after her 6 month birthday!  she is all over the place and i have not baby proofed yet!!
  • Mine has been crawling since about 5.5 months. It's not a full out on all fours crawl, but sort of in between that and an army crawl. She is definitely getting around. She cannot sit unassisted yet though. She refuses and straightens out when we try working on it.
  • DD sort of crawls. She takes like 2 or 3 crawl steps, then sort of scoots, then sort of hops on all fours, then shimmies...you get the idea. She definitely gets around, though.

  • Our son started crawling a week shy of 6 months but can't sit for longer than a few seconds. Lol there's always something...
  • LO is 7.5 months. He started crawling backwards at around 6.5 months and just started crawling forward over the past week or so.
  • Our little guy started army crawling at 5.5 months. By 6 months he was full on crawling,  getting into everything. By 6.5 months he was climbing the stairs.  Now at 7 months he's testing his balance by letting go of whatever he used to pull himself up.  Slow down baby, please slow down.  Getting too big too fast.

Wow! Your little guy is advanced for his age!

My baby girl can sit very well unassisted--balances and reaches for toys and her feet without toppling. She can also stand holding onto something for a long time without her legs giving out.

But besides shuffling around in circles and scooting backward, doesn't look like she's even close to crawling.

    ETA: she's 7.5 months.
BFP May 2013 - MMC at 8 weeks

    BFP February 2014 - early loss/CP at 4.5 weeks

    BFP November 2016 - pending...

  • Mine has only showed an interest in even trying to crawl in the last couple of weeks.  He just turned six months on March 24. Previously, he would just lie on his belly...now he rises up on his arms and kicks his feet to try to gain traction.

He's not sitting very well unassisted, yet, though he does well with a little balancing and support.
  • Mine started crawling at about 6 months 1 week, albeit a slow, frog-like crawl. He still hasn't mastered sitting up on his own yet... I think his head is too heavy for his teeny little body!

My little dude will be 7 months on the 11th and he's not fully crawling. He does scoot himself around the house with his hands, drags his body. Seems like so much work! He gets on his hands and knees and rocks, but hasn't moved. I had 2 that crawled at 6 months, 2 that crawled at 5 months and 1 that crawled at 7.5 months. He doesn't sit well yet. Just a little bit and he topples over.

I'm honestly hoping he's not full on crawling for a few more months.
  • I put 'not quite there', will be 7mo on the 12th. We have hardwood, and she has mastered a combination of pushing with her hands and rolling to get across a room quickly. She has a jute area rug in her play space that she has more traction, and just got all the way up on hands and knees 2 days ago, rocking today. She doesn't sit at all yet except on my lap because I follow montessori theory which discourages propping babies. With DD1 she sat up the same day she started rocking, and had mastered crawling by the next week.

  • My LO isn't even close to crawling. He just recently learned how to roll over and spends most of his time doing that. Although I've noticed him trying really hard to push up the past few days so maybe he'll be doing that soon :)
  • My first didn't crawl until 10 months and I am in no hurry with my second.:) Once they start moving it's a whole different ballgame!
  • ^^ amen
  • This is #3, he's not crawling yet. #1 and #2 were crawling by now, they are all on their own timetables. I'm not rushing it, it's so nice knowing he stays where I put him. Once they start crawling they are everywhere!
  • I wish we could slow him down!  Crawled at 6 months 3 days... pulls up to stand on everything now. This kid is going to need a helmet!
  • Definitely not crawling. He's still trying to master sitting up on his own. I had no idea babies crawled at 6 months?! But I don't try to hurry any milestones along. I let him go at his own pace. No rush or worry here.
  • Everything I've read says babies start crawling anytime between 6-9 months, some even later. 7 months is still on the early end of things! My best friend's kiddos didn't crawl until 8 months and then 10 months, so I wouldn't worry about it! Each baby goes at their own pace ... some skip crawling all together and go straight to walking.

My LO just crawled for the first time last night at 7 months 5 days. He has been on all fours rocking for at least 3 weeks now, and was scooting backward before that. He's been sitting supported for about a month, and within the last week has learned how to put himself in a sitting position and sit unassisted. The progress he's made in just one week is unbelievable!

Try not to compare your baby to all other babies ... they'll hit those milestones when they're ready! In the meantime, we've found that letting our LO play in just his diaper (no clothes) every night has definitely helped with his physical skills as he feels more freedom to move. He doesn't even attempt to crawl when his pants are on, but once you take those pants off, he's on the move!
  • My girl is almost 8 months, she doesn't even do the crawling position yet... They'll get there when they get there :)
  • He has got the whole mechanics of it down, has since 4 months but just hasn't connected them fully. There is progress but we keep getting set backs like 3 colds in the last 3 months where tummy time just isn't happening due to a blocked up nose. He gets livid, down right livid, if we do tummy time with that going on.
  • Both of mine have fully crawled at almost exactly 6.5 months.  I agree with @zebrastripe though, as exciting as it is/was when LO learns new skills I'm exhausted.  He started pulling up about a week after and now I spend my days chasing him around so he doesn't hurt himself.  We literally can't go to the bathroom without putting him in his bouncer (which he no longer likes since he started crawling). DH went to grab DS1 a cup of water yesterday evening while I was at the store and came back to find DS2 four stairs up.
  • Started crawling at 5 months! At 6 months he is pulling him self up to stand

  • My little one started A swim type crawl on her belly just before 6 months. Now just after 6 months she been getting up on all fours and rocking. But no belly off ground crawl yet.
  • We are crawling!! It's a funny crawl. I'm calling it the peg leg crawl. LO folds his right leg in and uses his left foot to almost drag the bottom half of him. He's getting better at doing the more traditional crawl though. He's been sitting up on his own since about month 5 and he's now pulling himself up on all our furniture and testing his balance by letting go! Everything happened so quickly and this mama is chasing LO everywhere. The fun has begun... Lol
  • So we are in the "crawling before six months" boat, but I definitely can appreciate how different babies hit different milestones at different times. My LO seems to be focusing much more on physical development - he crawls like a champ (we seriously can't slow him down), sits up independently, pulls himself up to standing, and his newest trick is standing independently for about two seconds (not holding onto anything). The Dr told us she expects he will be walking before 9 months. (GULP)

BUT! While he is racing ahead rapidly with physical development, he has been taking his time in other areas. For example - while I have seen many videos of babies mimicking sounds at this age, he is content to just make his own, mostly vowel sounds and only in the past few days have we had any luck getting him to mimic a consonant sound that we make. He also is just starting to figure out how to pull a cloth off his face and is really not into solid foods.

Babies really do make their own paths and figure out what they are into, which will drive what skills tend to develop first. As always, definitely consult with your pediatrician if you are concerned, but otherwise don't stress about it. Just remember that once your baby is crawling, there is no stopping the little busy bodies! ;) lol
  • This is a pretty confusing poll, still not quite there yet is the same as crawling after 6 months right?
anyways LO is 6.5 months old and extremely close to crawling. She does a lot of scooting and rocks back and forth on all fours. All that's left is to start moving!
  • Our son started the on all fours rocking at about 5.5 months, then started scooting, at about 6 months he could scoot forwards and backward, he'll be 7 months on Wednesday and crawls like Mowgli from The Jungle Book.  Pretty cute to watch, it's still pretty uncoordinated, but he's moving!
  • My LO started full on crawling about a week or two after 6 months. He can also pull himself up to stand in his crib and sits unassisted. He'll be 7 months on the 15th and I wish he could sit still just for a moment!
  • she started crawling about a week after her 6 month birthday!  she is all over the place and i have not baby proofed yet!!
    This is us too

LO is 7 and a half months old, he was getting on all 4 around 5 and a half months. Then he started rocking within a few weeks. Around 6 months he could scoot backwards. It took him a few weeks but He started crawling right at 7 months. Sounds great in theory but good god I spend half my day trying to contain him and keep him from getting into things lol

  • She started this slow reaching crawl right at 6 months. Now at almost 7 months she's really getting around with her army crawling.
  • 7.5 months and crawling all over and into everything!

Little man isn't sitting but he is army crawling. So you may be closer than you think.
