Re: Weekend Ticker Change 4/23 & 4/24
Symptoms/raves/rants? Noticed some swelling in my feet over the past few days, but I've been super busy/active with work the past few days so I expect that's contributing to it. Maybe feeling Braxton Hicks now? Nothing painful, but sometimes I can't tell if it's BH or the baby moving. My upper back has been really sore by the end of the day - Dr says it's muscle spasms and not pregnancy related but I'm pretty sure it's the way I'm carrying with this extra weight.
Appointment update? Next is May 3rd for 36 weeks
Questions for the group?
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long?
My sister from Alaska wl be here with her family, but she's mostly coming to be in the delivery room with me, snuggle baby, and to visit the rest of the family after I give birth. My husband will be off that first week home with us so I'll probably mostly depend on him. I love his mom, but I kinda feel like she might overwhelm me with how much she cares and wants to help, so maybe I'd wait to ask her for help after my husband goes back to work and we've established some sort of normalcy/routine.
Symptoms/raves/rants? Swelling swelling everywhere!! I'm so hot all of the time. I lost my ankles somewhere yesterday it seems.
Appointment update? Weds for dr appt and scan/nst. Going to hopefully schedule an induction date!
Questions for the group? Is anyone else planning on starting baby sleeping in crib from day one? That was our plan but I feel like dh is worried about it now. Any stms have experience and advice?
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? No one. Dh and I like to be alone. So while I'm sure his mom will come out and spend some days with us, I'm not asking for help.
I kinda feel the same way about being alone...I prefer it to be just my husband and I figuring it out on our own and I hope people will respect our space. But I know it'll be hard once he goes back to work so my plan will be to call my MIL or (if possible) go over to my dad & stepmom's or grandma's house to have some social interaction where I won't be feeling smothered.
Symptoms/raves/rants? So uncomfortable. And ridiculous swelling. But other than that good. And I'm 37 weeks! As of today if I go into labor I can go to the birth center with no issues!
Appointment update? Next Tuesday. We'll be discussing whatever my GBS results ended up being and my ultrasound from the perinatologist. He basically said to stick with our original plan so idk what there really is to talk about.
Questions for the group?
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? DH and I want the first week people free. At least for extended or overnight visits. My mom is a saint and said she would respect that... Of course she's the only one who is. She'll be coming about a week to help watch the baby so I can nap and shower a little and to help out with laundry and picking up around the house. This will be the first week DH will be back at work so I'd be alone. Basically she said she doesn't want to be intrusive and I really appreciate that.
Symptoms/raves/rants? Swolen feet. Body aches. Trying to think of something positive! (Still having sex - so I guess that counts?)
Appointment update? Next one is Tuesday - first one DH is missing - he has to present on the day and missed so much this week with me in hospital. It's okay - I've been very lucky with him going with me so far. Might find out if doc thinks baby should come earlier due to my blood pressure.
Questions for the group? What are you ladies doing on your last planned date with DH? I am thinking of getting DH the Doom game and making sure he has snacks and the day to himself. Like a last day of freedom. Then I want him to take me out for a fancy dinner!
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? My DH is home with me for two weeks and then my mom if I need her.
Symptoms/raves/rants? raving that I'm still pregnant! Where I am delivering, 35 weeks means NOT automatically going to the nicu... which has been my goal! Good Job, LO!
Appointment update? Weekly - this Thursday - my OB admitted that I don't physically need an appt this week, but was fine seeing me, even just to check in. really psychologically helpful! 2 more appts left!
Questions for the group?
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? DH gets the first week and my mom gets the second week! Hoping to heal well enough from the c-s to be on my own the 3 week....with the 3 kids. But my ILs are around too!
Mama to Three Girls:
Twins born March 2014 at 26 weeks due to preterm labor
and our 37weeker born May 9th, 2016!
Symptoms/raves/rants? Baby dropped yesterday! I felt him move a little weirdly, and then all of a sudden his butt is like 3 inches lower, his body is in a diffferent spot, and I have pelvis pain every time I move. Very glad, because with my complete lack of contractions to this point I was beginning to think he didn't want to leave... But MY FEET!!!!! They are like alien sausage balloons ALL THE TIME now. Sometimes it hurts, but most of the time it just freaks me out.
Appointment update? Next one is Monday, and DH is coming with me:) He's been skipping the short ones, but I think as it's getting closer he doesn't even want to miss those.
Questions for the group? None now:(
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? Still in negotiations:) My folks are hoping to be out for the bris (8 days after baby is born) but I really want my mom to stay for a full two weeks after DH goes back to work (he has 2 weeks paternity leave). So that would be three weeks, and my mom still has a pretty high-powered job so I doubt she'll be able to swing it. But I doubt we will have any shortage of help--DH has a huge and loving family here, and even if everyone only visits once, we'll be booked til the end of June. And they are all helpful and good with kids (did I mention DS will be the third new baby for DH's family in three months, with two more expected by the end of the summer?) so I can't imagine anyone coming to the house and not being helpful.
@charissadeats -- Love the date idea! I think we are going out to a fancy dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. Not as thoughtful, but Dh is concerned that our ability to leave the house will slide to nil for a while and he wants to do as much of that as possible now!
If the infant goes from back to belly, he or she is strong enough to breathe in that position, SIDS wise. You just want to avoid putting a newborn down on her belly from day 1.
Mama to Three Girls:

and our 37weeker born May 9th, 2016!
DH and I went on our last date night last weekend. We went out to dinner and then a few errands and got a red box because neither of us really like the theater. MIL watched the twins - free babysitting is the best!
I was thinking, like you, to get his friends to take him out next weekend, to relax and chill without me and the girls. It might be a while before I allow a guys night out again! I was also thinking that next weekend I would let him "pick", whether that means he gets to do yard work in peace or we go to a park or ball game...

38/winter melon/spaghetti squash/Pomeranian
Symptoms/raves/rants?
Pelvic pain and lightning crotch! Yet, baby is still high
Appointment update?
1/2cm to 2cm dilated in a week! 70% effaced but obviously, those numbers mean nothing, cry. Next appointment is 29th for regular check up and foot check up. Let's hope I progress and my broken foot is healing nicely.
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long?
My mom and MIL reallyyyyy want to help. My dad is also bringing me lunch every day. My mom especially want to hover because I'm an only child, she thinks she's a baby expert and it's gonna drive me nuts. They don't want me to do anything for a MONTH (um heck no!).
At first, my parents wanted me to live at their house for a month after LO gets here but I kindly declined. Now, I'm super glad I declined. They live 15 mins away so if they truly wanted to help, they'll come to me.
re: I can't do straight to crib from day 1, I just know I'll be that crazy mom that checks every 5 minutes to make sure baby is breathing and alive. So I might as well just put him in our room in the bassinet to save a trip. I'll be surprised if I ever sleep again. If I do, it'll be from utter exhaustion and I pass out.
Hahahaha! When people say,"what are you having?" well - there's your answer this week
eta: I'm with you - I need my newborn in arm's reach to make sure she/he is breathing. I don't need to open my eyes - just reach out from bed to check and go back to sleep until feeding time.
Mama to Three Girls:

This is is what we have in our room. It also becomes a crib when you remove the bassinet and changing table. Then you can remove the crib to become a playard. I'm super excited to use it!
Symptoms/raves/rants? Symptoms/rants: Insomnia, swelling, lightheadedness
raves: just 2 more weeks of work!
Appointment update? Tuesday for my first cervix check and gbs swab
Questions for the group? None for now...
@yogahh I think the pnp is a good option to have. We are also planning to start in the crib from the get go, but of course will see how things go!
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? We finalized our plan for my mom to come stay with us for the first 2-3 weeks after baby's born, then mil and fil will come for several days. Then my mom will probably come back in July and every ~6 weeks from there.
Symptoms/raves/rants? Just hit a point where it is hard to maneuver this body. Had the WORST heartburn last night, and woke up 3 times with vomit in my mouth. 21 more days. I hate doing this rant, but I hit the weight I wanted to deliver at (even though I know I have no control). So three more weeks, and who knows what could happen. Maybe the weight gain will slow? I have ankles, but no neck? Pregnancy jowls for the win/loss?
Appointment update? MONDAY! I skipped 36 week apt, because I had a trial and family funeral last week, so I am excited for perhaps the final 3 appointments of my pregnancy career.
Questions for the group? Nope, @yogahh we kept our first in our room for 6 months exactly. I would like to shoot for 3 months for this one, or no more than 3 months. You'll know exactly what you are comfortable with, and I was surprised that my husband and I were on the exact same page last time.
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? My mom, my husband, and my little friends; Mimosas, Miller Lites, and Margaritas.

My sister and I just had this conversation. I would buy a padded fitted sheet because the mattress is Firm:

and our 37weeker born May 9th, 2016!
Symptoms/raves/rants? We had our birth class today. I knew a lot of what was discussed but it was nice to hear if from someone else. Of course DH thought it was a waste of a day but I know he will be a huge help when the day comes. My feet hurt so bad. I scored new tennis shoes for $20 ( gotta love Bealls!) and that has helped but I am still walking on the outer part of my feet which is not good.
Appointment update? Friday for GBS/ cervical check
Questions for the group? none
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? Both of our parents live 20 minutes away so they will be available to help everyday. I know with my mom she will be here to help cook/ clean etc but I feel like if MIL comes down shell just want to hold LO.
How many weeks/fruit? 35 weeks- pineapple
Symptoms/raves/rants? Tremendous rib pain that can go away any time!
Appointment update? I have one Monday, just expecting the usual quick appointment
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long? DH and I are going to work together. If we should need more help we have family close by.
Week/fruit: 38 weeks
Rants/ raves/ symptoms: I have so much pressure and pain. I've been having contractions. I've been feeling them but didn't know they were contractions until I was having a NST and the nurse told me. I could feel them, just assumed it was various pain. But we finished the nursery today!! So she can come anytime!
Upcoming appts: 4/27 for pre op and 5/2 for my c section!! Unless she comes sooner which I feel like might be this week.
Who are you enlisting for help after birth and for how long?
My mom loves close by. She will help with DD#1 when I'm in the hospital. She'll also take some time off work and help with whatever I need. We get along very well so it won't be an issue. My MIL has off Mondays and Fridays so I'm sure she'll want to come visit. My exMIL watches my DD after school when I work and she has offered to help any way she can. So I have a lot of volunteers. The biggest help will be with DD#1 taking her to and from school and to her activities, etc. I can't drive right away.
How many weeks/fruit? 39 tomorrow. I haven't looked yet, so I'll also go with baby sized
Symptoms/raves/rants? I'm honesty amazingly comfortable at this point. I think I owe it to weekly chiropractic visits and Aqua yoga.
Heartburn sucks, but Zantac generally takes care of it. I have some soreness in my right foot, and a little swelling on that side, I guess since that's the side baby hangs out on. The rest of me doesn't dwell unless it's hot. Avoiding summer pregnancy FTW!
Appointment update? On Friday I was nearly 3cm and 80% effaced! I'm happy with whatever head start I have when labor begins! Here's hoping I'm nearly a 4 by this week's appointment.
Questions for the group? Anyone else trying to baby map? I'm pretty sure LO is "Left Occiput Anterior" which is apparently ideal! I thought being straight facing my back was best, but apparently being angled is ideal. I'm going to credit the chiropractor with that, too. I'm a believer. https://spinningbabies.com/learn-more/baby-positions/other-fetal-positions/left-occiput-anterior-loa/
Who are you enlisting to help you after birth and for how long?
My parents live close, so I'm sure my mom will be over a lot. I mostly will probably want to be alone, though. We'll see.
