It seems like I'm back here time and time again. Yesterday my DH and I went in for an ultrasound at 9w1d and discovered the heartbeat had stopped at 8w4d. To say I'm devistated is an understatement. This was supposed to be the successful one. My HCG was good, I was on progesterone and at 7w there was a strong heartbeat. Since this was number 3, they suggested I do a dnc for genetic testing. The hospital was available in a few hours, so I took the appointment to get it over with.
I've now had 3 types of miscarriages/treatments so I can shed light on my experiences.
My first MC in August 2015 was natural at 5w4d. By the time I went to the OB, most of it had already passed. I bled for about a week and my period came exactly 4 weeks later.
My second MC in January 2016 was a missed MC at 6w4d and was treated via Cylotec, the MC inducing drug. I selected this option to be able to pass the tissue at home privately and (I thought) comfortably. The cramping was awful, luckily they gave me a few perocets to get me through it. Within 48 hours it had passed and I stopped bleeding in 5 days. My next period came about 5 weeks after (28 days after my hcg was back at 0).
My third was yesterday at 9w1d, although growth stopped at 8w4d. I had no bleeding or signs of MC. The dnc was what I had been dreading. I had never been admitted to the hospital or even had an IV. My ob appointment was at 2:30, confirmed no heartbeat by 3:30, and dnc at 6:00. I was home by 9. Today I'm crampy with light bleeding, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm feeling so numb and defeated. Hopefully the tissue analysis will shed some light on what is happening with me.
In the mean time, it has been suggested I contact a reproductive endocrinologist, as 3 in a row in my late 20s is uncommon.
For those debating between pills or dnc, I am willing to answer any questions that may help you with your decision.

1. Do I have the time and work schedule to allow it naturally? Can I perform my work duties while this happens? Do I have the patience to wait for it to happen naturally? Am I against other invasive methods and medications?
2. Cytotec should allow it to happen on my own time, will I have closure by going through the pain and birth of my baby? Will I regret not experiencing the process for my mental closure? Can I handle the pain and blood?
3. Do I want testing on the baby? Do I want to find out what sex? Do I have a limited time off and need to get back to work and want it to be as physically painless as possible? Will this allow things to normalize more quickly so we can try again to conceive sooner than the other options?
