Multiples?

Anyone find out they are having multiples?

I know pregnancy dreams are just that... but I've been having a recurring dream (possibly nightmare, ha!) that we find out we are having twins on our first U/S on 5/3. Like, the most real life feeling dream ever. We don't have twins in our family, so it's not possible right?

Re: Multiples?

  • DH really wants twins because they run on both sides of our families, but I just want the lone baby. He thinks it wold be awesome to have twin ginger girls that look like me so when comes home he can say, "Where are my girls?!" Lol. I think it's cute but I'm more budget conscious. We would be still comfortable with one baby, but two may make things tight.

  • @dmontgo, DH calls me and DD his girls, so tell your DH that he can say that even if you don't have twins  :D

  • @Gizmo1231 you could absolutely have twins even though they don't run in your family.  Identical twins have nothing to do with genetics.  This pregnancy started out as twins for me and I know with certainty that I only produced one follicle so they would've been identical.  Unfortunately one never progressed and my RE is considering it a vanishing twin.  My husband was so bummed... we have two girls already and he's been saying for months how "cool" (I beg to differ) it would be to finish our family with twin boys.  Yes, twins would've been fun but I'm kinda relieved there's only one in there.  I don't think I could handle 4 kids under 5.

  • ah I had a dream we had twins! Boys, one with brown hair like me, and one with red hair like DH. We both have sets of twin cousins...and my mom tells me that my grandma miscarried twins. Freaks me out!

I'm expecting twins! We found out at 5w5d. As @mamawino said, identical twins are a complete fluke and have nothing to do with genetics - they are a random occurrence. You can inherit hyper-ovulation which can result in fraternal twins but it would have to come from your side if the family, it has nothing to do with dad's side.

I've read this as well.  My mom and aunt (maternal) both had identical twins...what are the odds, right?  It always makes me wonder if one of the sets is actually fraternal (I'd put money on my sister and I because we have some disparity in height, face shape, etc. whereas our cousins still are very much alike).

Personally, I'm glad to have had singletons thus far as I've heard all the horror stories of caring for twin infants.  There's a slightly greater chance that I'll have twins this time around from what I've read (due to my age and the fact that this is our third), but I will be more than happy with another singleton (though twins would also, of course, be welcome).

  • I go Tuesday for my first ultrasound. With my first pregnancy I knew it was just one immediately. I've had lots of feeling this time may be different but we will see on Tuesday. No reason I would have twins as they aren't anywhere in my family for the 4 generations that are known about.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • My husband is a twin and he is dying for me to have twins.
His parents had 2 girls, and then his dad "prayed long and hard" for a boy and ended up with twin boys. Since we have 2 girls, he is going to flip when he finds out I'm pregnant. He is going to "pray long and hard" for twins. ha! We aren't telling anyone until our first ultrasound, so we should already know by then. I have big babies and don't look forward to 2 large babies inside of me. My husband was an 8lb twin...no thanks.

I'm a twin (and they run in my family) and I've always wanted twins. When we started doing IVF, I totally intended to ask them to implant 2, but when the tests all came back and all 3 of our embryos were all high quality and genetically normal, our doctor told us that he would not do 2 for us, even if the first one didn't take... Now my only hope is that I win the lottery and the egg split post implant (which can happen, but it really unlikely). I'm pretty sure DH did a happy dance in his head when the doc said "No Twins on Purpose!"

  • I'm a twin and my husband has twins on his side. First DS was a singleton. I'm hoping there is just 1 this time too! Twins would be a game changer for sure for my family! Paying for 3 in daycare?! Yikes!
