Everyone tip toes around the word racist. She is not a racist, I'm not a racist. If some ones ideas or actions didn't align with racist ideology then there would be no point in saying, I'm not racist. It would be evident. Accept that they are/you are. If they are ashamed of the label them challenge them to address it.
Reading through this reminded me of the people upset because Harriet Tubman is going to be on the $20 bill. A friend posted some Twitter reactions, and it made me all...
On the subject of transgender bathroom issues, I saw this the other day on facebook.
I find the whole "bathroom issue" so dumb. When I was in Italy, every public restroom I went into was unisex. I was in one bathroom with 6 men and I was the only woman. The only reason I was uncomfortable was because I didn't speak the language.
Honestly, if someone wants to prey on people in public bathrooms, no law will stop them. And I'm more afraid of the people who want to spread hate for transgenders than I am of a woman who happens to have a penis being in the bathroom with me. She has zero interest in me. She just wants to go to the bathroom!
People need to stop worrying about other people's business so damn much and worry about themselves.
I wonder how many of these people who are against transgender individuals being able to use the bathroom they identify with are women (or have wives/daughters) who have jumped into a men's room to use it when the women's line is too long without a second thought. The laws are just so clearly about bigotry . . . I mean, seriously? They're worried that some pedophile is going to pose as a transgendered individual to hide in the bathroom and molest children? What's preventing someone from doing that now? It's not like we all have to flash our vajayjays to gain entrance into the ladies room now.

piggyback off @bamacoop I don't understand when people lose their minds over celebs dying. yes it's sad, but you didn't KNOW them or have any type of relationship. calm down.

If Britney Spears ever dies (BUT SHE WON'T BECAUSE HER AWESOMENESS IS IMMORTAL) I will totally lose my mind and be super sad.
As a side note to the body builder post above, I really, really hate derogatory terms used to reference political parties. I consider myself a moderate republican. Do I have different opinions and morals than a democrat, yes. That doesn't make me "stupid." Just as having liberal views doesn't merit being called a "libtard." That phrase makes my skin crawl, btw.
I realize this is a very "puppies and unicorns; let's all get along" kind of post. But I just get tired of seeing it. Just because you disagree with someone doesn't give you the right to insult their intelligence. #let'sbegrownups
@kmalls Ummmm..... is this a bad time to mention that I don't particularly like Britney Spears?
*ducking and covering*
@bamacoop I wouldn't blame you if you're judging her post-mental breakdown career. But pre-breakdown? So great. Her music was the soundtrack to my lyyyyfe.

I'm not typically one of those people, but I can see how people would be devastated over an icon like Bowie or Prince dying. There are a lot of people who may not have had a relationship with them personally, but through music. Their music and art helped many people not feel so alone, alienated or weird. I read in an article a description of Bowie as the "Patron saint of freaks and geeks" and that's just it, he was more than just a celebrity to a lot of people. His art helped people through their darkest times and I think a lot of people feel the same way about Prince.
Now, any regular ole' celebrity? Bummer, I guess, but that's life. I'm not going to lose my shit if Britney Spears or Brad Pitt dies, but I get what you're saying... a lot of people will be up in arms, which is crazy.
@CopperBoom86 Absolutely, I totally agree. It was more about the picture and commentary. Half of my family is very conservative and I would never call them "stupid republicans" just because we don't have the same opinions.
Just as a disclaimer, I'm not the original poster of the comment and didn't write the hashtag.
@CopperBoom86 Agreed. I consider myself a Libertarian-Who-Votes-Republican, because I'm pretty conservative on 90% of things. I just usually don't post political/religious stuff on TB, because I get plenty of political/religious debate watching on Facebook, and I come to TB for advice on strollers, to commiserate about symptoms, to see cute bump pics, and to laugh alongside people about their silly days. I'm all for keeping things lighthearted.
On a related note: I don't like 98% of cheese. I like cooked mozzarella and that's about it. No grilled cheese, mac & cheese, or cheeseburgers for me!
@Julia70286 - I should've clarified that was in no way directed at you, personally. I knew the point of your post had nothing to do with the hashtag; it just reminded me how much I hate stereotyping like that.
But in seriousness, going back to black lives matter. Whenever DH and I go to the states I will be worried because he's a black man. And a fairly tough looking one at that. I will have to think twice about how people perceive us/him and especially because he will be outside of his home culture I think he will be a bit more on edge as well. He's quite fluent in English but if he gets nervous it's hard for him to speak it. I'm afraid that will be misinterpreted. Then I think about how our baby will be biracial, and what that could mean for him as he grows up (IF we end up in America). I think about the little boy we are trying to adopt, who is black, what will life look like for him in America. The fact is, white privilege is real and it exists and until people of every color are seen as equals, there will be problems.
I wrote a whole lot more and then I deleted it because I am not sure I can properly articulate right now over the internet. So I guess I'll leave it at this.

I find posts such as these basically as insensitive and inappropriate as the April Fools "I'm pregnant" pranks. Nothing about either is clever or funny.
Your concerns are totally valid @kmolleltz. I really hate that. I'm really hoping blm can get the US to get focused on this issue and change. It is so terrible that someone should have to worry about being discriminated against and of course everything that comes along with that. I would research multiracial communities in the us. There are forward thinking fair people here. I don't have any suggestions but I'm going to be looking into it for our family. I'm grateful to have a large Latino community in our area so we are not completely white washed. I wish we lived in an area with more diversity though.

This makes me sad and I wish I would have never commented on this thread. I didn't use the correct words to explain myself and frankly I can't right now and I'm not even going to try. I love everyone. Black, Hispanic, Israeli, Syrian, Indian, Blue, Red, Green. I just don't like violent protesting. I made an ignorant comment based on my lack of knowledge of the BLM and for that I am sorry.
Amen @CopperBoom86! I really want to know when having a different opinion started equally stupidity. Nothing will ever get done in this country if the parties don't stop waging a war against each other.
Also... I don't care for Prince's music. They played like 5 songs in a row on the radio and I turned it off. Idk if it's cause I'm too young to appreciate it (although I love most 60s, 70s, and 80s music) but I just don't care for it.
@nlane0723 Props to you for acknowledging your mistake and realizing you may not have had the information/perspective to make the statement you did. As a woman of color and a bisexual, this is all I ask of people. To listen to another perspective and at least take the time to consider it. Ignorant comments and hateful comments are not the same thing...the difference is that someone who makes an ignorant comment has the potential to change for the better. Hateful people don't care. You clearly do. Thank you.
@nlane0723 - Try not to take it personally. At this point, I don't think anyone commenting on the "black lives matter" issue is directing it toward you. They're just sharing their perspective on the issue because it was mentioned. We all see that you clarified what you meant by your post. We ain't mad atacha, girl!
@nlane0723 that's how I feel, sad. Sometimes I feel angry too. Mothers being afraid for their children, husbands, brothers, sisters. Fearing the senseless hate. Worrying if another person's irrational fear could cost their loved one their life. It sounds extreme but that is what is on the line in so many cases. I have lived in two states where of you feel threatened you have the right to protect yourself. That is a deadly combination with someone who truly believes that black people are dangerous. A hispanic man (he did have a warrant) was sitting in his car waiting for his partner and was shot because he "moved in a threatening way" while sitting in the vehicle. He was unarmed btw. How is it that some psychotic asshole can gundown a movie theater and walk away alive but someone can get shot for sitting in their car? Anyone see the Dave Chapelle skit about his buddy chip? So accurate. If you haven't. Look it up on youtube. Also, I'm glad you brought it up!
I hate Old Bay seasoning. I've never even tasted it: just the smell alone turns my stomach. I live in MD (aka crab central), so this is quite a UO around here.
(Btw, I legitimately just thought for at least a minute whether to use a or an in front of UO. Ugh. Hope I got it right.)

I'm born and raised in Baltimore and I hate crabs. I do like old bay but I'm not a "put it on everything" Marylander. I can't tell people my crab opinion or I get majorly side eyed.

@MRSCORKER I used to think I didn't like seafood, until I figured out I just don't like old bay. I love shrimp now and I like the taste of crab meat in things, but I don't eat it much because it is often doused in old bay. Blech. I definitely can sympathize on the side eye!

For me, it's shellfish. I don't like the texture. Shrimp, crab, lobster, ICK!

I think fad diets are stupid and pointless. You have to change your entire lifestyle if you want to maintain a change. There is no perfect skinny pill folks. Good old fashioned exercise (doesn't have to be with a paid fitness trainer) and eating properly and not junk is going to give you long term results.
I lost 54lb after DS and the looks I got when people asked how I did it and I told them diet and exercise! People looked genuinely disappointed.
@TurtleMomma - Same here. I lost 112lb last year and people refuse to believe it was accomplished by change in diet and exercise alone. I've literally heard someone say "I'm sure she's on plexus or something and just doesn't want to admit it." ::eye roll::
@Turtlemomma I hate that! I lost 80lbs and when people ask how, I say the same...diet and exercise. They get so mad. And it doesn't help when they learn I had a NutriSystem subscription. They act like I lied to them. Um... NutriSystem is all about learning how to live a healthy lifestyle. I ordered their food because I found it too difficult to buy everything I needed to eat healthy when I lived alone. I always ended up throwing food away. People are weird. Lol

I get really annoyed when people #artsy after completing a Pinterest craft. No, that’s crafting, there is a big difference!
Or when people #artsy after visiting an art museum. Did you create that art? I don’t think so!
(I have a fine arts degree and an art history degree so I get a little art-ragey!)
Honestly, if someone wants to prey on people in public bathrooms, no law will stop them. The second part, about cheese, that's pure lunacy!
I love that we are able to bounce around between subjects like this without a lot of hatred or anger.
Side note: I am a libertarian. I do not care what you do as long as it doesn't hurt others. That goes for BLM, bathrooms, cats, and cheese.
I think it all stemmed from a show I watched when I was little about how they make cheese. Ew. Just ew.
I do eat: mozzarella sticks, pizza, lasagna, and cheesecake if that makes me less alien?
