  • @whaat It looks like CO is currently doing blood testing. I agree, there needs to be a more cost effective way to test for MJ DUIs. Why hasn't anyone invented this yet? I feel like that person would be a bazillionaire.

  • I would rather booze be illegal, than weed. I'm sure that will be a UO.
  • Well I guess my UO is that I do enjoy the mary jane. I've smoked somewhat regularly in the same way I drink somewhat regularly since I was a teenager. I would never call myself a pothead or in anyway say it is a big part of mine and DHs lives or a defining characteristic of who we are, but it is something that is a normal occurrence in our home. We both stopped several months before conceiving each child and I did not smoke while I was pregnant or nursing and do not intend to with this LO. Weed has never made me paranoid or goofy. It's just a nice way to mellow out, much like a glass of wine. I actually much prefer smoking over edibles because I can control the high. I like it mild. With edibles, you never really know how much you're getting and I've found that 2 hours later I am toe up thinking my dog is talking to me. Not my kind of thing. I don't smoke around my kid. Everything is safely stored away. Both DH and I have above college education and have had jobs all our adult lives so smoking has in no way made us lazy or unproductive. We just enjoy it!

Speaking of this.. My mom told me she smoked weed "almost every day" during all of her pregnancies due to severe morning sickness. I mean, I have a really bad memory but I guess I'm ok?  :p
I'm just going to say this. I actually did smoke a few times when I was pregnant with my son at the suggestion and coordination of my OB, Gastro and PCP. I have a chronic pain condition I was diagnosed with in 2009 after a complicated surgery and had been taking opiates for since then. I've had 11 surgeries, procedures, multiple hospital visits, over 100 ER visits, my body has been through the ringer. Through my own determination I went from morphine and other drugs on a daily basis down to Hydrocodone. I went from 14 medications a day to just 2. It's been a very long journey for me. I was nervous on the effect the opiates would have on our LO, so I tried other options. Unfortunately I never felt comfortable enough with the lack of research and effects of pot (there are some studies but they are older and I believe in repeated efforts) it's a hard line to walk.

I and my OB were both ultimately more comfortable with the level of research done on the effect of low dose. continuous opiate use during pregnancy and those effects. It would have been quite dangerous for me to reduce or halt use altogether for my baby and myself so I stuck to my regular routine. She was specialized in chronic pain condition OB patients, so I was in fantastic hands. It's apparently more common than is discussed, thus my reasoning for sharing now. My son was born absolutely perfect, no withdrawal as expected and aced his Apgar. I think it's important in this day and age for all women to understand there is no perfect situation, things are not always black and white and that we do what we have to, hopefully with our babies best intentions at heart. I tortured myself for the longest time, but simply educating myself and coordinating with my providers gave us an excellent outcome. My own family isn't aware of my condition, neither are 75% of my friends, you'd never know what my daily life was like but when it comes to your Doctors you need to be upfront.

    This. This. This.  <3

    It's a sub sandwich shop. :)
  • Yeah I can't do Subway over JJ's

    JJ's FTW.

  • I don't really like subs, since I don't really like cold cuts. If I had to pick, I'd choose JJ over Subway, but give me neither actually.
  • Pot makes me really, REALLY sick. Like, nauseated to the point of throwing up for quite a while after being around it.

I still think it should be legal since I really think adults should be allowed to make those sorts of choices for themselves. But I absolutely think that the smoking of it should be as restricted as smoking of tobacco. Don't pollute my air with your smoke. I'm a severe asthmatic. If you want to consume it in non-combustion ways around me, go right ahead, but I absolutely do not want to be clouded by your choking stench cloud of carcinogens.

I just don't like the smell of any kind of smoke and don't want to have to breath it in. Lately I've been really annoyed/frustrated by people who assume that vaping is allowed where smoking isn't. Inside at a conference center? On the ferry where there's no smoking allowed at all? Seriously people. Just stop.

     Mmm Jersey Mike's <3   Now I really want a cold-cut sub sammich.

  • As much as a I love me a good sandwich (Quiznos specially), give me a burger any day. With cheese and bacon. And maybe a fried egg. Yum.

I want a burger now. With a side of poutine.
  • @ShallowSeas that might be dinner now since my pregnant brain forgot to start the pot of beans this morning. #13 Mikes way!
  • @shallowseas, they're still full of cold cuts!!!

I did grow up with Jersey Mikes...if I had to, I'd pick JM then JJ then Subway. JJ uses TONS of mayo and I'm also a mayo hater.

You guys clearly don't live in the land of Publix subs.

OOH Publix subs! Your GIF is perfect. My biggest regret (okay, one of many big regrets) about moving from Georgia to Illinois is no more Publix. It's the best grocery store in the world, and all of the Publix-brand products are better than the brand-name competitors, especially the ice cream.  <3
  • Today's UO is making me so hungry!!

All your subs and sandwiches are making me starving! Out here in the land of salads and acai bowls (Bay Area, CA), I don't think one sandwich/sub shop is more popular over another.

I'll go snack on some kale chips, hahahah.

  • I had JJ's for lunch and it was amazingly delicious. Bacon, avocado spread, delicious bread. It was amazing and I ate the whole damn thing. The most I've probably eaten since week 5. Thank you JJ, thank you.

Perhaps if they'd been more liberal with the avocado spread I would've like it, but they seriously skimped and I couldn't taste it at all (could hardly even see it). I'm a vegetarian, so I ordered the veggie sub, and it was basically just an iceberg lettuce sandwich.  :s

I live in a place that pot is everywhere. I would rather be around stoned people than drunk people, any day. You want to sit and laugh and eat some tacos?  My kind of people! You want to be loud, make out with strangers and start fights? Ugh. Bye.
And you can usually spot a stoned driver, they are the ones going 10 under in the slow lane listening to the mellow music. I'm ok with that.

except that is still being a hazard to others around them, and it's normally more than 10 under. I can not in any circumstance (even if it "just makes you paranoid") support any driving under the influence. More and more states are enforcing minimum speed limits on highways and I'm glad they're finally doing that.

  • I don't understand the "we aren't getting that testing done because we are keeping it anyways" mentality. Why wouldn't you want to know what you may be up against? If you know there's a problem at 12 or 20 or even 36 weeks you have extra time to do research and find specialist. You get extra time to go into momma battle mode for your child. Get extra support, line up extra help. How long might we be in the hospital? Who can take care of my dogs and other children? What's the plan? We are given these amazing tools in our tools box. I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to use them. I have a special needs child. It takes a village, a team of specialist and the most amazing support group in the world to guide my son safely through a world he doesn't understand. We developed our own play book to tackle this. If I could have known early it would have been a game changer.
Maybe it's my bad experience from my quad screen.. and the fact that I'm not high risk enough to get insurance to cover the testing of other more accurate ones. BUT I will be opting out of the quad screen this go. I got flagged for possible spina bifida for my daughter. They did nothing different when it came to my A/S. The only thing was that I was at a MFM so that I could do further testing if the A/S showed markers for SB. It turns out my levels were due to where her umbilical cord was attached and that too would have been caught on the A/S no matter what my results of the quad screen. I get being prepared, but in this case it stressed me out for over a month while I waited until I was far enough along to do my A/S. ALSO this is why I really really hate the idea of going to a U/S boutique to get your first u/s done so you can find out the sex. Yes one of the benefits of your A/S is learning the sex of your baby, but it's also to make sure your child has everything forming correctly. So God forbid you go in for your early u/s at one of these places and they see something wrong!

Yeah, I was on board until that.

@shevaCC second-hand smoke bothers me so much that I've taken to asking people to go outside or stop smoking in places they shouldn't be. I do it in a very polite way and usually people act apologetic. It's ridiculous to inflict that on other people.

I do liquor promotions for some extra $$ and it drives me up the wall when stoned people come in.. mostly because of the smell but also because they're a PITA to deal with as customers. They may be stoned, but boy do they scare away actual customers from coming over to my table.

  • I had JJs for lunch today. I do not like Firehouse Subs. Had those once and it was the most boring, depressing sub I've ever had. :(

But for a really good sub sandwich, I go to Which Wich -- NOMS
  • @lilwonder - giiiiiiiirl you obviously haven't had Ike's yet. Best Bay Area subs around. There's a new shop open in Burlingame on Howard. :)

Yes! My husband said this when we discussed the Progenity genetic test. I told him that I would keep my child as well but I could be better prepared to be the mom of a special needs child. He agreed and said he hadn't thought of that.
