BV and Yeast Infections

I have been battling a ping pong of yeast and BV for months, did the meds and it keeps coming back, you name it i have tried , taking femdophilus probiotics now. I have even started getting relief with herbal vaginal steaming but i know its not recommended during pregnancy but at this point I am desperate to feel normal and clean plus the no sex is affecting my relationship. What advice you ladies have.

Re: BV and Yeast Infections

  • I don't really have any wisdom to share.  Sorry you're going through that.   Unfortunately, I think in pregnancy you are even more prone to both conditions.  Hopefully you're doctor will be able to help find something that does the trick.

  • My mom used to have yeast infections and candidas all the time. She told me that what helped her was that she had to get more breathable underwear (or no underwear) and she cut out refined sugars, which apparently feed yeast. She hasn't had an infection since. This is anecdotal but pretty interesting. I hope you find relief soon!
  • I used to get BV about twice a year and yeast infections a few times a year. I also get uti a lot. My regular undies are now all breathable, (same info as pp), i drink barely any pop since before pregs, and changed soap. I also pee often. I know these are not a big help you but i swear my overall health down there has improved. I think some ppl are more prone to BV and Yeast.

I hope you find relief, i know its not fun to deal with.
  • Thanks ladies

Last June I ended up with very bad bv at the same time I had my mc (not bv related). I then went through the next three months trying antibiotics because it would go away and then come back, I did two rounds of metrogel, 5 and 10 days, then two rounds of oral, 7 and 14 days. The forth visit, the doctor I met with also put me in three months of the vaginal gel to use once a week to continue to supplement. I also changed to breathable underwear like pp said, changed my soap, Dove-sensitive, DH has to make sure he uses it too, no sex if we aren't "clean" (no after gym/run sex), yogurt everyday.
It's a lot of changes, but I was having breakdowns every time it came back.
  • I suffer from UTI and pregnant with my last bv. I would suggest as the others cotton underwear and not thongs. Also how much water are you consuming? I would.look at taking some probiotics. Water was my saviour. Getting up to that gallon a day for pregnancy helped a lot. Lot of peeing. Solly question your obviously wiping front to back as well. Cranberry juice has helped in the past but only the real deal from whole foods and it taste like ass of the earth.

Oh..yes another thing I used to have issues taking the antibiotics. They would increase my other issues. Like kill bacteria that cause this but then I killed other bacteria that is helping that.

I hope things get better for you. Those are not great things to deal with.

  • Yes i have dove sensitive i will start using it. I also switched to cotton panties. The cranberry "ass from the earth" comment is hilarious. Trying to drink a glass with a garlic clove a day but with nausea last i tried i puked it back up. Thanks ladies
  • No advice as I've never had this particular problem, but I would like pepper in 'ass from the earth' to my everyday conversations as much as possible.

  • I've struggled with this as well.  Super sensitive lady parts I guess!  For me, Probiotics are the most important (Yakut is good, you can also get pills, but the best ones would be ones you find in refrigerated sections--at room temp, probiotics gradually lose efficiency, and plain Greek yogurt is great.  I eat yogurt everyday and take a probiotic).  You can also take a bath in Apple cider vinegar (use unrefined, you can find it at whole foods or Sprouts) with 1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar in a shallow bath.  Soak for 15-20 min.  You can also douche with diluted apple cider vinegar.  I found drinking apple cider vinegar water also helps, but it's pretty gross and hard to drink... Once cleared up, definitely continue with some kind of a probiotic, wear breathable cotton underwear, and you can purchase prebiotic body wash from vagisil.  I agree with previous posts about sugar, and would add that yeast likes moisture, so keep it dry down there is important!  Don't stay in sweaty clothes after exercise, and after shower dry well then don't wear tight clothes right after.  For yeast, you can take Azo Yeast too to prevent.  Good luck!!
