@Stephanie7693 They have to test ABOVE average in everything?? Ugh, I wonder if it's the same here. That's annoying! I feel your daughter's pain - I started Kindergarten when I was 4 (back when the cutoff was in October) and I still struggled out of boredom throughout elementary school. You're right - once she's into middle school and high school, a lot more doors will open up, but it must be hard to deal with that as a parent in elementary school. Now I'm kind of hoping this little guy is born early enough to hit the cutoff... lol. It'll all be up to him!

Also, @bananers I have heard that too, that it's *typically* better for boys to be the oldest. I was one of the youngest with a September bday, while my younger brother ended up being one of the oldest, as he had a July birthday and started right after his 6th birthday. He was in preschool and the school did a GREAT job of evaluating him and deciding that he really needed that extra year.

I was one of those kids who just made the cutoff and started kindergarten right after turning 5, so I was one of the youngest in my class. I did fine academically, and was even bored in some subjects. But I did struggle a bit socially, like it seemed like the other kids were one step ahead of me all the time, and I didn't quite get some of the dynamics between other girls. I struggled with that all the way until 5th grade or so when it all kind of balanced out. I think there are developmental considerations that come into play other than academic readiness. Because of my own experience I feel like I'm going to want to keep my kid back, but then on the other hand I don't want him to be the only kid in 5th grade with a mustache!
Here, the Kindergarten cut off date is July 1st. That means this little guy will be pretty much the oldest in his class. My oldest was born in November and is close to being one of the oldest in his class and does well there, where as DS2 was born in January and he's about in the middle of his class, age wise, and is bored as crap! He's in Kindergarten and tells me every day that it's so boring and it's so easy. I wonder if part of it is because his brother is 5 years older and he learns so much from Big brother. I can only imagine how things will be with this one, having a brother 6 years older and one 11 years older!
All I have to say is I'm so much happier have summer babies (either July/August) versus December-February here in WI because at least I know we can make it to the hospital without getting stuck in a ditch or worse with the crazy amounts of snow we can get during that time. Bring on the sundresses and flip flops and swimming pools!
Yes! We only live about 15 minutes away from the hospital, but if there is a blizzard and the plows can't keep up...yikes! Although I wouldn't put it past Wisconsin to get some weird freak storm in August.

I had no idea the school cutoff varied throughout the country. Here in WI it's September 1 and I thought it was that way everywhere. I'm a June birthday so I was always one of the youngest in my class. I'm due 8/17 and went a week overdue with my first, so I'm assuming this one will be a late August baby. I'm already thinking we'll hold him back a year, especially since boys typically mature later than girls and I was a late bloomer puberty-wise, so my boys might be too.
@SkiChic626@Allisun85 I live in CT and grew up in NY and I believe both cutoff's are December 1st. I'm an October birthday, started kindergarten at 4, and I wasn't even the youngest in my class, we had November birthdays too. Very few people hold back August babies up here because it's not even considered a borderline month.
Re: Since comments were shared today about our "hot" August babies.....
