Pregnancy Brain-- Let's hear it!

Pregnancy brain has kicked into full gear over here.
Today, I managed to pour coffee in my cereal, put the milk in the pantry, shampoo my hair twice in a row and then I forgot to put mousse in my hair. I blow dried my (curly) hair upside down, flipped my head up and had the craziest, frizziest hair.
Also, is that the right term? Blow dried? I quit today.

Tell me me about your pregnancy brain!

Re: Pregnancy Brain-- Let's hear it!

  • I've locked myself out of the house so frequently that I had to hide a key.
  • Loading the player...
  • I confirmed a photography client for Friday, then an hour later messaged her again to say the Thursday forecast looked bad and could we use Friday as a back-up...she responded "I thought it was Friday anyway, so sure!" Blah.
  • Last week I apparently told a client a meeting would be today when it was scheduled for next week and just got lucky that I was able to do it today, almost put away Nesquik powder in the refrigerator with the milk, was waiting for a meeting outside the wrong room in the wrong building even though other people were already in that room for their meeting, started forgetting what was discussed in phone conversations, etc. so much fogginess!
  • I've had this since about 8 weeks. I've missed group assignment work, forgotten appointments, left things at home... it's awful. I'm generally very organized and have an excellent memory. But right now I just suck at life.

I'm always forgetful, but when I'm pregnant it's out of control.

Just for today I splashed scalding hot soup from the crockpot all over my arm, side and legs. And forgot to get gas even though my gas light was on. Twice (as in two separate trips in the car). Luckily, I made it to the gas station on my third trip out.

  • Yesterday I was teaching some students how to insert an IV, and I forgot about half of the words.  Just couldn't come up with things like catheter, vein, sharps container, normal saline.  Then to top it all off, I was demonstrating how to hold the IV so you can see the top of it and said "if you don't, you have to bend way to the side to check to see if it is in" and when I bent my head over to demonstrate, I got really dizzy and almost passed out with a needle in my hand.  None of my students know I'm pregnant, so they probably thought I was just really hungover.

  • We had a loaner car over the weekend, and when we were getting ready to return it, I couldn't find the keys. Our regular car is a push-to-start so I never pull them out of my purse, but the loaner car was not as high-tech. I searched high and low, and started getting really frustrated because it was hot out and the car was loaded up and ready to go (including our 16m old in his car seat). My husband kept asking me if I checked such-and-such location. I did one last run through the house and came back down to tell him I give up when I noticed the keys sitting on the hood of the car. My husband never noticed because he was playing with our Toddler. I felt so dumb.

  • I was making lunch the other day and my son handed me his cup for a drink. I finished making his sandwich and put his cup back in the cabinet and handed him the jar of peanut butter. It took him saying "no no!" for me to realize what happened.

I have opened the door and windows a number of times without turning off the alarm first.

I have a lot of stopping mid sentence and not remembering what I was saying or switching to nonsense in the middle.

  • the worst was def when I left home and went to work without locking the house. Which is an obvious thing because (this is tanzania) and you put a padlock on the outside of your door....

A couple times I've forgotten to feed the dog (oops! I know terrible. Most of the time DH caught it before we went to bed)
When we went on holiday two weeks ago to the beach I forgot sunscreen. That was terrible.

  • I went to order a plane ticket for the next day....I ordered it for JULY! I didn't even notice until the husband told me an hour later
  • Yesterday I had my first major "pregnancy brain" moment... I was in a rush to leave the house on time (as usual), threw my stuff into the car and started driving.  I got about 5 minutes away to a stop light and looked over at the passenger seat.  There was my lunch box, my gym bag, and ... no purse!  WTF?!  How could I forget the one essential thing that I need to bring with me? I ALWAYS have my purse with me at all times, obviously.  So I drove back and found it sitting on the floor next to the kitchen island.  I must have put it down while filling up my lunch box and then just completely forgot about it.  So then of course I was late  :/

  • It's in full effect here.   This morning is the perfect example.  I set my alarm for 7:20 instead of 6:20...  Ugh.
  • I've forgotten to get my prenatal even though I submitted my refill two days ago. Luckily I still have some left, but I'm hoping today is the day I remember to pick them up.
  • @nataliemaephotography Ugh, the prenatal- I forget to take my pills half the time lately!
  • I have locked myself out of the house, I've become a terrible friend who forgets to respond to text messages (for weeks!) and I have to immediately write down appointments. I'm usually the most organized person.
  • Totally forgot to get my paperwork for blood work for tomorrows dr appointment for my normal yearly check up. And of course the office is closed today so I can't even go and get it done today for tomorrow. The worst part -- I had it written down. Oy.

  • - Forgetting to respond to e-mails about an upcoming professional conference, for which I am a member of the board of directors :(
    - Leaving refrigerated food on the counter (though my husband doesn't think to put it back... What?!)
    - Struggling to speak what is my first language at work. (I work at a French language school but all aspects of my non-work life are spent speaking English)

  • I forgot to get the groceries out the car. For hours. It wasn't until I was in bed that night that I happened to think about it and was still like, "Surely I got them, right?!" Got up & checked the kitchen & nope, no groceries. Thankfully I only had a handful of frozen items.
  • This thread is making me feel better about my life.

I leave out refrigerated food by mistake.
I forget homework assignments for my grad classes.
I'm in a constant state of fog and can't remember words mid-sentence.
I was late paying two bills. This one pissed me off because I'm always diligent about that.

  • I totally forgot I was supposed to get my blood work done Monday. 8:00 that night it dawned on me. UGH now I have to go early before work! It hasn't been so bad for me, mostly just forgetting easy words... the other day I could think of the word "COMPARE". Last night it was "BRINE" which, is a generally pretty standard word for me because I do a lot of cooking. I asked DH, "I'm thinking of a word, it's when you marinate meat in salt kind of?" I do that a lot these days. At first he looked at me like I was crazy, but now it's pretty commonplace.

  • My pregnancy brain also has me melding languages. I was giving a tour to some English speaking people and mid sentence switched to Swahili. I was about 3 words in when the (swahili speaking) staff burst out laughing and I realized the visitors no longer had any idea what I was saying.

  • I'm convinced I'm throwing stuff away and not realizing it.  In the past two weeks I've lost a brand new maternity tank from H&M, my husband's new golf polo, and my fave yoga pants.  disappeared without a trace.
  • I had run an email that was to address a new firm policy by my supervisor - so it started with "Here's what I've got, let me know your thoughts/changes" then followed with the email content I planned to send.  She responded with her thoughts, I tidied it up, copied and pasted into a fresh email to the firm and hit send.  Within minutes I started getting weird response after weird response, saying "looks good to me" or "not sure what to add, but sounds good" - turns out I never deleted the first sentence meant for my supervisor. So, really, I ended up asking the whole firm for their thoughts on a new firm policy - instead of just introducing them to it. It's been a week of explaining over and over again... *sigh*

I also locked the poor dog in the bathroom and started panicking when I couldn't find him.  Then spent 10 minutes trying to find where his whimpers were coming from in the house!
  • Mine is words. Words are really hard lately. It's especially bad when I'm mad and trying to get my point across, it's just a bunch of half words and incomplete sentences. It sucks. Most recently I was telling SO about the project I wanted to do and I was telling him all the things I needed when I said sanding paper? Sandy paper? What is it? Oh, sandpaper!

It really peaks about 1 week after you get home with your baby- sleep deprivation plus hormone fog and baby brain not quite gone yet...I almost microwaved a pair of scissors, would fix a cup of coffee and leave it on the counter all day, we left the poor dog outside until 1am one night! It's bad.
  • @kmvisioli, that is all hilariously frightening! I've gone down to my parking lot for the last 2 mornings (which is not SUPER close to my actual apartment) and realized that I don't have my car key. Twice in a row? Really?! I'm scared for what the future holds!
  • I keep leaving the baby gate open.  My toddler probably wouldn't open the basement door and tumble down the stairs if he noticed the open gate, but luckily I've caught it before he noticed every time.

I forget words a lot too, but my husband is usually the only person I really talk to and "thingamajigy" tends to work fine as a filler word when I'm talking to him.
  • I forgot I put my favorite pair of Cotton/stretchy pants in the dryer this morning to "fluff" and then didn't end up wearing them. So later I threw sheets in there & dried on max heat. My pants shrunk & I am so, so sad.

Wash them again and stretch them back out when they're wet and hang dry. I have to do it all the time. My SO is 6'5" and hates when I put his work polos or sweat pants in the dryer because they get shorter but sometimes they slip by me.  :#

  • I wear a lanyard at work with my keys and ID and last weekend I forgot my keys 4 times in clients' rooms and I didn't catch it until I was at the door of the next client.

  • MH now has pregnancy brain (although I didn't tell him about the phenomenon because I didn't want him to start paying attention to my silliness and pointing it out every time as a symptom - anyone ever heard of diagnostic overshadowing? - bc that could possibly turn my "brain" to "rage"). I texted him the info about my appt today (on iPhone it underlined tomorrow), and yesterday when I called him on my way home from work he said he left early and was on his way....glad I caught him before he got too far, oops!
  • I put a lot of things in the fridge that belong in the pantry. and vice versa
  • I took off a pair of diamond earrings while at the pool and put them in a side pocket of my purse (so I "wouldn't lose them"). The non-zipper side. STUPID. Who does that?? When I finally remembered I had taken them off (a day later) one was missing. No, I don't have a lot of diamonds. As a matter of fact, aside from my wedding ring, those were it. A gift from my wonderful husband. I've been careful with them for years! I've been kicking myself and heartbroken ever since. So not me to be that dumb  :s
  • Annnnd, I left a half gallon of ice cream in the fridge when I tried to put it back. My husband came home from work and said, "Why is the ice cream in the fridge?" I responded, "Ah, pregnancy brain." I don't even remember doing it.

    Yup. I has it.

  • I work at the same school my son attends, and while I was dropping him off, I stopped to talk to his teacher and apparently left my keys there. I then realized that I had forgotten my water bottle in his class, so I picked it up, made some copies, went the supply closet, and came back to my classroom. About a half hour later I was searching all over for my water bottle, I swore I had brought it back to the room. Come to find out, I left it upstairs in the copy room. I have a feeling this is the beginning of a lonnnnng pregnancy of forgetting things!

  • This morning at the grocery store, a friend from high school was directly behind me in line. We smiled at each other. But because I was in the "7 items or fewer" lane I was so busy glaring at the woman in front of me with her 40 items that my brain did not even register him. He messaged me tonight on Facebook asking if I was at the grocery store this morning. Cracked me up. But ironically, had the situation been reversed, with my emotions what they are right now I would have been furious and devastated and probably would have deleted him by the time I got home! Lesson learned!
  • I called my mother like I do every night. 5 min later I called her again and she and my husband were laughing at me. also I really didn't remember buying a container of pudding and my husband had to produce it to prove it.

i work for cps and I had a client ask me if I was pregnant bc I'm a forgetful mess. yes yes i am. lol
