Re: TTT! 4/19

  • 1. weather has been gorgeous
    2. the downside: legs need to be shaved for dresses/skirts...huffing and puffing.  but much cooler than yoga pants :)
    3. took the twins out in the new minivan for the first time today!  We went to my prenatal appt and the hospital for weekly bloodwork to watch my platelets.  We have their carseats rear-facing in the third row, so I wasn't so sure I would fit back there to get them in and buckled.  Success!
    4. DH can put the girls in their seats from the trunk (they are in rear-facing dionos), but the bump gets in the way for me :)
    5. 2 more prenatal appts to go!
    6. I'm so done getting weighed regularly!
    7. Playing outside with the twins wears all three of us out!
    8. Any makeup recommendations?  I typically wear a tinted moisturizer, a little blush, concealer, and rarely, eye make-up.  Specifically a new tinted moisturizer with SPF and blush.  Thanks!
    9. Was hoping to avoid the leg/ankle swelling, but I've been seeing an increase the last few days.  I hope it doesn't get worse.
    10. I know fundal height measurements can be unreliable, but I think the provider is a factor too. I've seen 4 different OBs over the last 4 appts, and I'm curious how those of you with a consistent provider feel about fundal heights?  At 26 weeks, I measured 30wks. Today, at 34.3wks, I measured 35.  I've been all over the place!

  • Jenly17  I'm no expert, but my 2 yr old (26 week preemie) has speech therapy once a week that comes to our home.  It is through the Alliance for Infants and Toddlers, a county program for Early Intervention.  Each state/county has a different program as I understand it.  Are you working with Early Intervention?

When I'm feeling down, I remind myself that speech, like any other milestone, isn't going to happen before she is ready.  Her twin is a little behind too, but she has a few more words/sounds.

I find that being involved in ST, just like OT and PT, helps me let go of the anxiety that she isn't where she is "supposed" to be.  I don't have to worry about her being behind; I just work with her weekly goals, and let her therapist keep track of her progress.

  • @JennyS86 - I used to love the Sephora brand tinted moisturizer, but I don't think they make it anymore.

I've been loving Physician's Formula CC cream. I get it at Ulta. Some people can stick with BB cream, but my skin has redness and CC cream does a better job of neutralizing that. And when I wear it, I don't use blush or concealer. It just brings out a nice, even fresh look.

  • @JennyS86 I love this the Bare Minerals tinted moisturizer with SPF 30.  And my favorite blush is this NARS one.  Both seem to wear really well all day, even in my humid Florida climate, without feeling heavy at all.

On the topic of cosmetics, I just found out that Sephora has discontinued my favorite tinted lip balm (I've seriously gone through over a dozen tubes in the couple of years!).  I was so mad when I left there the other day that I swore I would never shop there again, but we'll see how long that lasts...

    6. If DS2 comes on his scheduled CS date, he and DS1's birthdays will be 5 days apart. Anyone else a second-time May mom?

I will be as long is DD3 doesn't come too early. EDD is the 16th and DD2 turns 2 on the 13th

@Jenly17 My nephew was diagnosed with Apraxia as well at around that age, but I'm not sure when he started therapy for it - at some point he was getting speech therapy through the school district before 4k.  His apraxia was compounded by the fact that he was tongue-tied, which apparently the pediatrician never noticed and it didn't get corrected until sometime around age 4 - I don't know if that is something that's a concern at all for your DD.  I'm glad you have sign language to at least still communicate somewhat; nephew never had that and that lead to a *lot* of frustration for him.  I know it won't be easy but I'm glad you can get started on therapy and I'm wishing you and her lots and lots of luck.

  • @Jenly17  Sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis, but along with what PP's have said I think an early diagnosis will prevent long term effects.  Hoping for the best!

@txmamatobe  So sorry to hear about your friends and family.

@Charla1224  I literally laughed out loud that you tested your pump on your husband.  Hilarious!

    @LadySamLady   Holly Magnolia is beautiful!

@Jenly17 my nephew has a communication disorder and I'm a teacher. It's definitely a challenge and scary, and I would recommend the following:
    1. Find out what your child's school district is required by law to provide. There's a law called "child find" that essentially means schools have to start setting up services for children as young as three if they are going to enter kindergarten with a disorder. Become your kids best advocate and KNOW what they can and can't provide.
    2. How is she communicating? I know for my nephew knowing that we can understand him is important. It's okay to meet her where she's at and communicate with her in her way- it can be really helpful for teachers to know what her default communication is.
    3. Take a deep breath! She's going to be okay! If she has a strong advocate system, a teacher (even just one!) who gets her, and everyone uses patience with her learning, she will be okay.
  • 1. My grandma decided it was a-ok to e-mail me this weekend to complain about the fact she had yet to receive a thank you note from my baby shower. It lead to a pregnancy meltdown.

    2. I also had an older sales lady when I responded to her question of what I am going to make with the jersey I bought with nursing scarves felt like it was a good idea to snottily respond with "Oh we've moved from blankets to scarves now have we?"

    3. I make it through the work day fine, then get home and at 7:30 I get super tired.

    4. I'm finally getting to the point of being ready to be done- baby girl is due in 3.5 weeks.

    5. Stretch marks have arrived- that doesn't bother me-- but my belly itching non-stop does!

    6. I could really do without the waking up with bad heartburn thing.

    7. I'm getting to the point at work where my projects are finished but my boss doesn't want to give me anymore in case I pop early - it's resulting in boring work days

    8. Allergies are starting to kick in- blah

    9. I have the best hubby ever- on the way to work yesterday after my dr appt. I got a low tire pressure light, so on his way home hubby stopped, switched out our cars and took it to the dealership up the street where they patched it -- AND it was covered by our warranty

    10. Since we finished our maternity photos I'm now starting to think about newborn pictures. So many cute ideas!

Three Things I liked about the hospital I'll be delivering at:

    1.  They play a lullaby over the loudspeakers on that floor whenever a baby is born

    2.  Every exit on the floor, including an elevator / dumbwaiter going down to the kitchen, has an alarm on it.  If anyone (mom, dad, anyone) is holding a baby and gets within 2 - 3 feet of an exit, the whole floor goes on lock down.  It's nothing I'm personally worried about, but I think that's really cool that they have it for families that are.

    3.  The labor and delivery and postpartum rooms are being upgraded and expanded, so there is a possibility I could get a labor and delivery room with it's own tub.  It's first come first serve but when we toured some of the newer rooms I was like *damn*, I haven't even stayed in a hotel room this nice!  Only drawback is since rooms are still in the remodeling process they have less rooms available over all.

@JennyS86I agree with you whole heartedly about letting go of expectations.  We've been working with various therapists through EI since she was about 6 months old. I first noticed that her physical milestones were delayed: rolling, and then sitting up, crawling, walking, etc. At that point we started with PT, then eventually added speech when she wasn't babbling much, and finally OT. We just got the Apraxia dx last week. It feels bigger than me, and bigger than her. It's hard when you know your child can understand you but not communicate with you. We do use sign language in our home which has helped to eliminate a lot of her frustration, but it's still difficult. I've never heard her say mama :( I think I'll cry for days when I hear her sweet voice. Agh. Anyway, I appreciate your input. I have sent many T&p's up to the big guy. Hoping He's listening.
I'm glad you're utilizing EI as well! sorry if I was talking under you - I've had some friends with term children who have no idea about the program.  I hope that your intensive speech therapy sessions start well and you LOVE your therapists.  He or She makes a difference - we ended up changing PTs about 3 months in because she just wasn't into it.  The PT we've had for the last 18months is amazing.  I'm sad because out OT is moving, and we only have 1 more session with her!
I also have this guilt that I must be working more with A on speech than G, which is why G is further behind.  However, when A started saying buh-bye, G actually started saying it about 3 weeks later!  (word #2) I just try to give them as much time (together and one-on-one) as I can.  You should see us in public - always talking.  Talking about the vegetables in their food pouches while waiting for my bloodwork at the lab today.....
Anyway -  let us know how it's going - praying for you and DD and your whole team.

I didn't take it that way at all- no worries! I feel you on the good and bad therapists. Our PT has been with her the longest, but as of late, I feel like she's just coasting through sessions just talking to me about her personal matters. Annoying!  I'm glad your daughter is making slow but steady progress. It's great that she has a twin sister for her to model after! Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and prayers. I will definitely update as we get further into intensive treatment.
  • Jenly17  Agreed on the chit-chat that can hijack a session!  Admittedly, I've been guilty of this on a day that I haven't talked to any adults....but yeah, lets stay focused on the kiddo!

@JoMunson you're totally right about being her biggest advocate! I will do anything that she needs to help her <3  She's receiving therapy through Early Intervention right now, but will transition to the intermediate unit when she's 3. We (H and I) talk to her all the time. We ask questions and she can "tell" us the answer or her needs/wants.  For example, "Would you like a snack? Ok, go to the table and mommy will get you a snack".  She then goes to the table. We also use some basic sign language as well as a picture exchange system (think flash cards of her favorite items, activities or foods) to help her to communicate with us. It hasn't been easy, but we are figuring things out as a family what works and what doesn't.
That's awesome! Using "real" language is going to be really helpful! You are an awesome mom!
