Re: Since comments were shared today about our "hot" August babies.....
We're in VT, so August edges into the start of fall. (the leaves were just starting to change on my August 9th wedding.) I'm super excited he'll be here, and I'll be somewhat mobile just as the weather gets REALLY nice. Late August through October here is usually the time of year I remember why I moved here. You don't need AC or heat, there are lots of family friendly types of events. I'm totally looking forward to pushing the BOB around farmers markets this fall! There is one literally in sight of our house, so it'll be nice to try "mini outings" which are fun, but the time / energy commitment is pretty low - practice getting out of the house together before we are trying to get to work / daycare.
And honestly - I'm always healthier in the summer, (all the locally grown goodness!) so hopefully that will help with the bounce back from baby. I can't even imagine trying to get back in shape during mud season. BLECH.
@curls919 My plan year reset on April 1. Booo!
Curls919 Same! I already hit my DED back in February with all the fertility doc visits in January and now several ultrasounds, plus other dr visits. Then you know if you get an outrageous bill it's gotta be wrong :-p
Allisun85 Sooooo true! I love the months where we can just keep windows open and don't need heat or air - I we've FINALLY hit the Spring version of that in NJ, at least for now. And if the weather is anything like last year, we'll still be able to go out for 70 degree walks on Christmas haha!
Baby #2 due 8/11/2016
DD was born mid June and it was a rough summer because it was just too hot to go anywhere.
@BritMC18 I feel your pain, I am also a June birthday and no one was around to celebrate because it is after the first few weeks when school ended.

As for the heat, is there any more comfortable maternity wear than a dress and some leggings? And how cute are baby bumps in swimsuits? So cute!!! What better shoes for swollen feet than a pair of flip flops?
I had a craving for strawberries, so now there are homemade strawberries and cream (with a hint of basil) popsicles waiting for me in my freezer. Boom!
I'm not worried about the heat. I work in AC, my car has AC, and my house has AC... so if it gets too hot for my liking, I can still be in AC. I'm also looking forward to swimming, and hanging out in sundresses!!! I even splurged on 2 new pairs of sandals the other day!

As for baby planning, we go on vacation to upstate NY every July, so I specifically planned that I didn't want a newborn while we were there (DD was 5 weeks while we were there and it was fine, but I wouldn't choose it again), otherwise my second choice was to have another June baby - so my nurse counted and we actually planned out my embryo transfer so that my due date would be mid-ish-August. I'll be super pregnant while we're up there, but we don't really do anything but sit on the beach, so I'm not concerned about it. I also think August is perfect because after the first couple weeks, the weather will start to cool down and it'll be perfect outside weather for walks and spending time on the deck everyday while I'm on leave!
ShanRum3 DD was due 2 or 3 days before my bday, depending on which doc you talked to, and I totally thought we might share a bday. She ended up 11 days before me, though

I'm willing to sacrifice a slightly hotter/swollen third trimester for the following reasons:
1. The already mentioned sundresses/minimal clothing. Bundling up was SUCH a pain when the bump popped out for those few weeks at the end of Feb and March.
2. POOLS POOLS POOLS.
3. eating healthier is ALWAYS easier in the summer (hello fresh produce!)... bring on the fruit/smoothies/grilled veggies!
4. I might complain every day of the upcoming hot summer, but it will pay off down the road when I don't have to be worrying about planning birthday parties around a snowstorm/holidays. There are literally no holidays in August!
5. Avoiding the dreaded late December/early January combined holiday/bday presents. My husband's bday is January 3rd so I am well aware of the annoyance of having the 2 so close together. I really liked what the article said about being able to give age-appropriate gifts when there is time between the birthday and the winter holidays.
6. The infant/sunscreen thing might be a pain but up here in the Northeast in August we're not looking at a whole summer's worth of hot sun. Maybe just another month or so.
7. I agree with the Halloween baby costumes. The hardest part is going to be narrowing it down!
There are definitely more that I could come up with why my August baby is sounding more and more appealing but those were the first that came to my head!
Whats good old though is baby is 3-4 months for the holidays and it's not so scary to be around people.
I'm just happy to be pregnant, regardless of when he gets here!

So unless this little guy comes a week or more early, we'll be paying for daycare/preschool for an extra year, as we don't have free preschool here. Bah humbug!
I'm totally loving the ability to throw on a summer dress and sandals on the weekend and go. Dressing for work is a little tougher, I've had to little by little get some lighter work appropriate pieces, but other than that all good. Yey to the school cut off birth date!
My birthday is less than a week away from our due date, and I've always liked a summer birthday.
It was deliberate to some degree that we have a late spring - early fall baby. We are about 45 minutes from the closest medical center, and have already had to do that drive in a snowstorm. I had nightmares of delivering in the car since the 45 minutes took 4 hours (totally possible) - I'd much rather roast this summer then end up in that situation!
If we didn't conceive when we did, we were going to give it one more month and then put it on hold until my delivery date would have been May 2017. Even then, I've seen a snow storm on memorial day.
Haters gon hate. August babies are going to have the COOLest (pun intended) birthday parties.
Even though it'll be a while before our peanut gets to enjoy the swan and donut tubes, I (being the prepared mama-to-be that I am) just ordered those tubes on Amazon prime.
As long as I explain to DH all the good use we'll make of them, I think I'm good...
Oh, and on the east coast the cut off for school is Jan 1. I was used to being kinda middlish age wise. Our kiddo will have the same experience.
I was SO confused when I got to college and figured out everyone else was a year older than me though, lol. I was 17, and most of my classmates were 18 or even 19. How did this happen??? My mom finally explained it to me, that most other parts of the country the school cutoff age is Aug 1, or September 1.

I bet that was what happened! I went through school in CT and I think they had a similar cut off.
I know, I didn't figure out it varied so much until mid way through my freshman year at college!
It's so weird that it's not universal. At least it should be a state-wide cut off!
