Birthing classes?

Re: Birthing classes?

  • @theshannondee I think that's about what we're thinking too...baby basics/care with the hospital tour, breastfeeding and cpr. I may take a birthing one if I feel like I want more information before the big day comes.

  • @kellz14 @jlmartinez517 okay good! That makes me feel better. I need to know all the things!
  • @theshannondee we did the birth class, breastfeeding and newborn care.  Both of us already know infant CPR which is why we're skipping that.  I'm with you, all the things!  All the classes!

@sboston06  and @Serpica I'm also in the Boston area. What hospital are you guys delivering at? H and I did the infant care class at Beth Israel, and we are doing the childbirth class next week.

  • @huskypuppy14 hello june lurker!! I'm also delivering at BIDMC so I'll be taking the classes/tour on May 8th (everything was sold out before then...). My due date is July 2nd so I wouldn't be surprised if I end up delivering in June, but we'll see :)

    They have earlier availablilty.

DH and I are taking the childbirth class which includes hospital tour. We are taking an infant care class that includes CPR and I will likely sign up for the bf class myself.

Ha, I"m due June 25, so  I very well could be in July! I hope not, but we will see.

@bostonbaby1 I did the infant care class with CPR and it was pretty good. The nurse who taught it was very nice. I mentioned taking a breastfeeding class to my OB and she didn't recommend taking them before you have a baby because ideally you can do everything right and it still can be hard so she recommended going to the  seminars that they have in the post partum unit after you deliver.

  • I've been really enjoying my class so far! (We've had two) SO is enjoying them as well and learning a lot and I feel he'll be quite helpful during labor so that's super comforting. Next week we're going over the medical interventions portion of it - I'm so excited!

  • @huskypuppy14 Thank you for the advice!!!
  • Good advice indeed!! I planned on taking a BF'ing class but wasn't so sure as to take one before or after she arrives. I suppose after does make more sense lol.

  • We aren't doing a class it was going to be close to 200 dollars and husband isn't super into it. I'm nervous but I figure I'm going to be either way and found free videos on babycenter to watch with him

We weren't going to do a class either, but I need my husband to have some idea what we're about to experience. I knew he wouldn't take the time to read anything so I signed us up for a class. We start next week for 6 weeks and it includes breastfeeding. I'm excited/nervous!

Early August lurker!  DH and I just started a Mindful Childbirth class at our hospital last night, taught by a local doula.  We found it to be super informative and fun.  It's a 3-part class and next week is the tour of the hospital.  I learned a ton, but it was also super helpful to have someone besides me explaining things to DH.  He's an info junkie too so I know he will feel a lot better during my labor having as much knowledge as possible.

  • My husband and I went to a 2.5 hour breastfeeding class last night. I wasn't expecting much and, while my husband didn't complain at all in advance, I was worried my husband would think it dumb for him to attend. I was so surprised how helpful it was! Both my husband and I learned a lot that was super helpful, and now we're looking forward to a few other classes we signed up for but were unsure about: labor + delivery and a maturity ward tour. I recommend signing up! These are all free through Kaiser.
