Thanks everyone! We love the name and I definitely will not cry over people judging my child over a name. There are tons of crazy names out there. We as Americans have had so many crooked presidents, leaders, or other political figures it is insane. That also trickles down the line to state leaders, bosses, teachers, etc. There is at least a handful of names any one person would have a negative reaction to but living around that won't make the world go around.
True, we've had some screwy presidents. True, other political leaders have been pretty terrible. But you acting like Nixon is just a regular name that blends in with a million other names is nonsense, as is the idea that "time heals all wounds" and no one under 30 knows anything about Richard Nixon. If that were true, there wouldn't be Richard Nixon masks for sale at Halloween every year.

Nixon masks being used for robberies, Family guy references, shows up in various other shows (omg Black Dynamite ) Futurama ..... the Nixon aide who admitted that Nixon invented the war on drugs to target the Black and antiwar communities........he's still a relavent pop culture reference.
Not only is it a surname (A ridiculous and juvenile naming trend that needs to stop), it's the surname of a real asshole.
Ok. You're not naming your kid Hitler or anything.. But if there were a cluster of really, really horrible political surnames to give your kid, this would be somewhere in the top middle of the list.
Am I the only person who just thinks Nixon McSomething sounds like a cartoon character? Regardless of the fact that the only association is President Nixon, it just sounds so...silly to me. IDK.
And here I thought Madison, Kennedy and Reagan were bad... And don't get me started on the second son being named after his dad because first son isn't around. This can't be real life. I have so many questions!!
Op I got lost at your comment of how you don't care if people judge YOU..... I think you're forgetting that this is a human you're giving birth to and he has to live with the name you give him.
This ain't about you.

Yeah I'm 23 and Canadian and I know all about Mr.Nixon and I wouldn't use that name for a baby. You might like it, but you've got to also think about how your child will feel when the names and comments start coming in. I'm also in the same boat as a lot of people here who don't like the 'last name as first name' trend. I think if you want to name this son after his father as well there are better options.
It's so disturbing how many younger people are (apparently, according to OP) clueless about history! I mean, I was born a good decade after Nixon resigned, but the first things that come to mind are Watergate and Tricky Dick.

The sad part is that when I was in high school, we never learned anything after WW2 in our US history classes. The only reason I even learned about the Vietnam War was because I took a specialized history class for extra credit, and even then we didn't learn much, if anything about Nixon. And I still know who he is and that this is a bad choice...
