Re: April/May IVF

  • @drove2u that is great news!! Hoping for even better news that they keep growing and you get a really great update on Saturday!

@wifeinraleigh28 hang in there! June will be here before you know it. I think it's more normal than not to have some type of delay in this process. I initially thought I was going to be part of the December/January IVF group and am still waiting to start (which is hopefully next week). Enjoy the next 1.5 months and you never know, the third IUI could be the charm!

  • Hmmm, so I finally got in touch with my RE nurse to ask if I was supposed to have AF, she said some breakthrough bleeding is expected. I explained that this is not just spotting, this is AF...like full on AF and it seems like she brought her knitting club with her and they are making sweaters in there. She said it was fine, but it doesn't feel fine and she just always sounds like she is trying to get off the phone.  It doesn't help that the last time i was there I saw a patient go back and the RE nurse and another nurse in the back sort of rolled their eyes and did an impression of her.
Me & DH - 41, DH has a cyst blocking his tubes, I'm just old.
    IVF #1 scheduled May 2016 - 375/525 follistim, 75 menopur - cancelled cycle Day 6
    IVF #2 scheduled July 2016 - new protocol, switcharoo...IUI June 2016 - BFN
IVF#3 scheduled August 2016 - estrogen & testosterone primed for 3 wks - ganirelix 7 days leading up to stim - 500 follistim, 75 menopur, 150 clomid , no follicle growth on day 6, stopped injectibles. Scanned day 9 just to check, some growth, 3 days 200 mg clomid, day 12 more growth, 100 follistim, 75 menopur, start ganirelix on day 13, ER = 0 eggs, ovulated to soon ( :( )
IVF#4 scheduled Sept 2016 - Microdose Flare protocol, cancelled stim day 6 converted to IUI (one dominant follicle)  :(  IUI cancelled ovulated too soon again. Taking a mental health break.
IVF#5 December 2016 - New protocol, same results. My adventure is over.

  • Well, the nurse called this morning and said that even though it doesn't look like enough Lupron in the vial, it really is since it is such a small amount I'll be using each day. I still feel weird about it, but she confirmed that it is the exact same amount and medicine that I got for my trigger shot, and I'm just stretching it out over the month. So I guess we're in the clear.

@KirstenCas how unprofessional!! Is there someone you can talk to about how they are not making you feel comfortable and sure of the process?
    @Drove2u Great numbers!
@wifeinraleigh28 I'm glad you decided to go ahead and do the IUI. It will help the time go by quickly

@dragonfaerie Glad you got the Lupron figured out. I was going to comment that when I was put on the Lupron injections I was only giving 5-10u per day so you should be good. I know it looks like not enough lol

  • @kirstencas how annoying! I agree with @dragonfaerie, is there anyone at your clinic you can talk to like the Nurse Manager or something? Having a good nurse makes all the difference. My DH called and requested a new nurse for me after my first IUI since the one I was originally assigned made it seem like a huge inconvenience everytime I or DH asked a question or asked her to clarify. I got switched and am SO glad b/c I can't imagine going through IVF with a nurse that wasn't there to help.
  • @Drove2u that's excellent news!

@Tulips29 FX like you said there is a chance for everyone! You only need one good egg :)
  • @Drove2u great numbers keep us posted.
went to RE this morning I have 5 follicles on left and right that are over 10 and 3 on left under 10 and 6 under 10 in right. So another appointment Saturday to see if I start the garnilex. I'm so worried about the number of follicles guess need to stay calm
  • @dragonfaerie I'm so glad it all worked out with the medication! I agree, you have to have a good nurse guide you through the process. I'm sure your doctor know what he/she is doing, and I'm sure it will all work out in the end with just the right dosages.

@ultratomato that's a good number of follicles, you should not be worried. Also ganirelix speeds things up so more will catch up. You're doing good!

I might just be being overly sensitive. I feel exhausted and weepy and crampy and fat :( I think I'm just going to kill her with kindness when I go in on Saturday for my trial transfer, HSG. It's a pretty small office, I don't really want to be THAT patient already. She has answered all my questions, I think I just wish she would tell me exactly what I want to hear :pensive:

  • @KirstenCas It is perfectly acceptable to be sensitive about things. The job of these people is to take care of you and answer your questions. That being said, killing with kindness is always a good plan, as long as you still get what you need from them. When I ended BCPs during stims, I had a little bit of dark spotting for almost a week, when I expected to get a normal period (lasting 4 days, normal flow) and they said that was okay. This time they are telling me they want me to have a real period when I end the BCPs. It's hard to know if your body is responding correctly, but if she says it's okay, then take that as okay. Hugs!

  • @kirstencas that makes sense and I think killing with kindness is a good thing. I didn't want to ruffle any feathers and thought I was just being sensitive, etc. but then my DH kept saying, "we are paying for this service, if you didn't like a dentist, dr., etc., you would switch, wouldn't you?" It got to the point where I was getting more stressed out b/c I wasn't getting what I needed and he ended up calling the clinic for me and just asking to switch. The nurse manager said it was a pretty common request.

If things don't improve, don't worry about being THAT patient. Even if it's just maybe having a talk with her letting her know/reminding her this is all new for you and you just want to make sure you have all the information so you can make sure you are doing what is best and even as much as how you prefer to communicate (more information is better than less, etc.) IVF/Infertility is already stressful enough, not having the support we (think) we deserve from our nurses/clinics, etc. doesn't help at all.

Good luck on Saturday! Let us know how it goes and if the killing with kindness helped!

  • I am officially joining this group since my final IUI cycle was another bust. I feel a little heartbroken but very grateful that I will be trying something new with better success rates. Turns out going on vacation and "relaxing" didn't magically fix my infertility! Gasp!
I am set to start meds next week if my u/s scan and bloodwork looks ok. And ER planned for May 3rd. This will be my first IVF cycle.
I hope all of yalls cycles are going well so far and that we see many BFP's in this group!

  • @tusername, welcome! Sorry your IUI was a bust. We will be on pretty similar cycles - I'll start meds next Wednesday if my baseline looks good on Sunday and will probably have ER the first week of May as well. My DH is hoping for 05/03 as that's his birthday and he thinks that will bring us some good luck.
  • @Tulips29 I was planning on a fresh transfer but they noticed a polyp in my last ultrasound so I may need to get that removed. Dr said he wanted to see how the follicles progressed once they were removed and then decide if I should do a freeze all or if only 1 makes it then implanting it because he doesn't want me to just freeze the one for some reason. I won't know really until Tuesday when I see him. My ER is set for Saturday and my original transfer date was for Wednesday.

  • So I start my third shot tonight and up my follistim to 175. They said my ER should be the end of next week. I can't wait. The only thing is my lining needs to thicken because it's only at 6.4 and its thicker in other spots. I hope it thinkens so that my eggs won't have to be frozen
  • @caseyw8784 have fun on your trip, that sounds amazing!!
  • Ladies any ideas on taking medication over this weekend. I have the rehearsal dinner tonight which will be right in the time that I take my meds around 8pm and tomorrow the wedding will be all day. What should I do I think tonight I can do it in our car but what about wedding we will have no cars and I'm not sure if there is a private bathroom. Also keeping the meds cold will be fun
  • @ultratomato As far as keeping your meds with you and cold, if you have a soft ice pack you could put that and your meds in a large ziplock bag and keep it in your purse.  You may just have to carry a larger bag than you normally might at a wedding! :) Surely there will be a bathroom you can use to do the shot...  Or at least maybe you and DH could sneak away for a few minutes somewhere. I have faith you'll find a creative solution! :)  Good luck!

  • @ultratomato I had the same problem a couple of nights since I was taking my injections at 8:30pm. One night I was at a concert and asked my doc about it. I told him we have to leave at 5pm. He said to just take it before we go. A few hours won't really matter it and it's not that big deal of a hassle then. Of course ask your doctor though.

Thank you dragonfaerie!!  I'm excited for your FET and your PGS test results are awesome!!  It gives me some hope :)  Are you on BCPs or doing anything special to prep yourself for transfer?
  • @avarnam2 Thank you! I'm on BCPs for another week, it will be three full weeks that I am on them. I can't wait to be done, as these always make me tired and feel a little queasy in the morning. I start my Lupron tomorrow. I've been weight lifting pretty hard and trying to lose just a couple pounds, and I just started doing yoga on Saturdays. I'm allowed to keep those exercises up until the transfer, which is good cuz they make me happy. :) One night coming up soon, DH and I are going to have a fancy dinner at home and drink a nice bottle of wine that our dear friends gave us. Then it'll be very little alcohol and caffeine for the foreseeable future!
