Looks like my preemie is going to be discharged from the NICU within the next week. Yay!
Having been hospitalized for the last three months, I didn't have any opportunity to do all the important shopping for the baby. As such, I'm now scrambling to get it all done and am basically getting a crash course on all things baby.
I have a question about car seats I would love your opinions on.
I don't drive, so I will be wearing my baby or taking him out in his stroller (either walking or via public transit). This means I will also take my fair share of cabs.
I had been looking for a stroller with a car seat attached so I could take him out in the stroller be potentially cab home if I got tired. However one of the NICU moms mentioned that it's no longer advisable to have a baby in the car seat for very long as they are too scrunched up. This makes sense but how long is 'too long'?
I will get a bassinet attachment for long walks if needed but if I take the stroller out without the car seat it means I would be unable to cab back home. I intend to ask the sales people in the shops when I go to get one but thought I would ask here first. Has anyone done research on this?
Thanks so much!!
Re: Car seat question
Once he's strong enough to be in a regular car seat, a few hours shouldn't be any big deal, I think they just don't want you to have them sleeping in it all night because of positional plagioencephaly. I used the Chicco Keyfit with the snap and go and absolutely loved it- it's super easy to buckle into a car which was great for cabs, and the snap & go was very lightweight and had a lot of cargo room underneath. I traveled quite a bit alone with my son and never struggled with that duo on public transportation or cabs.
