So, we have standardized testing the next two weeks in our county. Our schools were closed for the past two days due to a water main break (we are back today). I have had a doctors appointment scheduled for this morning since last week. Yesterday at 2:15, the school secretary calls me and informs me that the superintendent has made an announcement that anyone with a scheduled appointment during testing weeks will need to reschedule or will get docked pay, regardless of if you have sick time or if you have any kids who take the test. I have sick time, and none of my kids take the test. UGH. So I had to bust my rump to get to the doctor yesterday afternoon at the last minute. It actually worked out well because my BP was higher than it has been and at the point of needing to induce soon. But then I get to school today and there are literally at least 4 people out today, who all have full classes of kids who test. WTF?!?!
@briterfly84 couldn't that be considered discrimination, since you have a medical issue? Not that it matters now, but I would have strongly considered raising hell over that. Good luck with your induction! Have they set a date?
My WTF goes out to my local Target, which has apparently stopped carrying the really comfy, thick men's sweatpants that have been carrying me through this pregnancy in favor of a bunch of lighter-weight sweatpants that are not as sweatpantsy. I don't care that it's not winter anymore, since when are thick sweatpants a seasonal thing?!
On the plus side, though, I didn't cry about it at the store, so I'm counting the trip as a win.
@briterfly84 We got an email saying no time off would be approved during testing too. But I didn't think they could dock your pay?? Especially if you've got sick time. How are they pulling that one off?
@clw617 and @AmadorRose I honestly don't know how they will get away with it, or if it was just a scare tactic...but I wasn't feeling in the mood to risk it. Plus, the doctor was able to get me in yesterday so it all worked out. I'm scheduled to go in next Wednesday for induction! I was bold this morning and looked the principal in the eye and asked if the Superintendent was going to have a problem with me being out for having a baby next week. She actually sent the superintendent to my room to assure me that having a baby was a different situation and I wouldn't be in trouble for it. Luckily, we are a smaller school district and my superintendent knows me by name, so it wasn't a snarky conversation. But I was very honest with my principal about it. Now my poor MIL is stressing about getting in trouble for taking off to come to the hospital (she works at my school). All the more reason I am slightly excited at the idea of a potentially early delivery (induction with DD was 7 hours from pitocin to delivery) and DH and I having some time to relax and bond before the kids and grandparents arrive.
Wtf is wrong with people bringing their snotty coughing kid to my house to visit LO? Im generally okay with family members stopping by with their kids to visit, but use some common sense! If your kid is sick, don't bring them around my not quite 2 week old infant!! Then let that kid run around and touch my baby's rattle toys that I now have to disinfect. Ugh! DH and I decided no more kids will be allowed around LO until he is older and has received his vaccines.

Seriously. The parents should know better. This is why I'm not allowing visitors for a few weeks. Parents with kids/grandkids may be carrying sth so I'd rather be safe than sorry. My lawyer's grandson had 3 colds at once (didn't know this was even possible), each from his brothers and cousins. The baby was in intensive care for a while.
My dad has bronchitis and keeps asking to come by the house to see me. Um...NO! I do not need to be sick when this LO finally decides to arrive nor do I need DH to be sick. Keep your sick butt at home! He and my mom are both sick and they stopped by my brother and SIL's yesterday so now them and their 2 kids have been exposed to it as well. Why do I have to be related to a bunch of morons?
1) I started training my temp this week. She totally misrepresented herself in her interview and now my boss gets a warm body for 12 weeks. I understand not all email systems are the same but ours runs pretty close to Outlook which she said she was familiar with. Our office has a lot of politics I have been hinting at but she isn't picking up on. I am not going to come straight out and tell you someone is an asshole...just be nice to him.
2) our realtor negotiated the sale price of our house behind our back so the buyer offered and stuck to the lower price, which is illegal for her to do. I am seriously considering filing some annoymous ethics violation against her with the state or her broker. Since she is DH'S aunt she is claiming she did this in our best interest and she doesn't think the house would appraise above that. Seriously the house has been on the market five days, same models with less updates have sold for more. DH has been making excuses for her from day one before we listed. He finally sat down and did the math for our overall net which should have been done before we countered the lower offer and finally understand I was not hormonally ranting.
@Ready4theParty family or not, that is completely unacceptable. What she did is unethical and she deserves to lose the ability to sell houses, because that is beyond fucked up. You don't screw over your clients like that, especially family.
