I think that sounds fine, and I like the name a lot. The only syllable thing that bothers me is single syllable first and last names paired together.

  • @EmT156 I've never heard such a "rule". Before I married and changed my last name my first and last names were both two syllables and I've never had an issue or thought is sounded weird, but maybe I'm biased.

Hi ladies. We had decided on the name Nora Cynthia last name rhymes with Cobin. Told my mom the other night and she wondered if it didn't work because there's two syllables in the first and last names. Is this a thing? A rule? Looking for any opinions on the name. Thanks!!
I did read somewhere that names that sound the most "pleasing" typically have 1 name with 1 syllable, 1 name with 2 and 1 name with 3.  So if for example your last name has 2 syllables and your first name has 3, a middle name with 1 syllable will sound "best".  Clearly this isn't a hard and fast rule and there are loads of names that are beautiful and sound great that
dont meet the requirements.  I thought it was interesting though!

  • @EmT156 that is so not a thing or at least shouldn't be. My maiden name was 2-1-2 and I got lots of compliments on my name.  Go with what you love because you'll be the one living with it!

  • Thanks ladies! We had this name picked out for our last baby who was a boy. I even told my mom that we didn't want opinions since we are so set on it... But give the lady a couple glasses of wine and... Haha. She means well.

My other kids are 3-3-2, 3-3-2, 3-2-2 and this one will be 2-3-2. I did want to stick with the 3 syllable first name but we can't agree on any other name.

I was going to say that it just sounds like some willy-nilly thing that your mom is bringing up, in hopes that you will consider another name. She probably isn't fond of the name that you have picked out, and is trying to find some way of coming up with some "rule" or reason, that you should change it to something else. I have never heard of such a rule, and honestly, never pay attention to how many syllables people's names have. And if it is a girl, there is a good chance her last name might eventually change to her spouses anyway. Like mine was 2-2-3, and now it is 2-2-2. My husbands is 2-1-2, and my DD's is 2-3-2.

@TattoosandLace I wouldn't worry too much about Pippa the SIL to royalty. I like Pippa. It reminds me of Pippy Longstocking, who is the coolest.

  • love Pippa... I've mentioned it before but The Goldfinch is my fave book eevvaaarrrrrrrr.... and she's a character in the novel so it automatically gets a thumbs up from me! And it's super adorable that Pip is already a nickname for her :)
  • @TattoosandLace I love Pippa! And I wouldn't worry about the royal family connection. I think it's a sweet name.
  • @TattoosandLace I think Pippa is cute! Charolette became popular after they named their baby that, and no one thought that was weird. Pippa is a yes for me!! :)
  • I love Pippa and it was on the list but MH veto'ed it. I don't agree with Charlotte becoming popular after the royal was named. It is so popular in my area (three of my friends alone have Charlotte's) that I rolled my eyes when the royal one was named. Its been in the top #30 for like five years. Pippa, on the other hand, there was one in DD's dance class and her mom flat out said the first time she heard it was Pippa Middleton (who's real name isn't even Pippa), and it has never cracked the Top 1,000 since 2000.

Charlotte was on my short list for future names before the Royal Baby. Hubs vetoed it anyway with DD. I guess we just have good taste. ;)
  • @TattoosandLace you guys have royal taste :)
I really didn't follow baby names before we started seriously discussing trying, so I didn't know Charlotte has always been popular. I just know a couple people who named their daughter Charlotte after the Kate named their daughter that!
  • I like Charlotte and Pippa!

We're naming our daughter Kate, so I'm right there with you ladies and the royal family!  :)
  • If I heard Pippa I would immediately think of Pippa Middleton, but that's not a bad thing for me!  I think it's really cute, especially with the nickname connection.

I was going to use Elizabeth for our daughter's middle name, but we decided to use DH's maternal grandmother's name instead.

  • What do you guys think of Rose Maisie?

Maisie Rose sounds better but MH is really set on Rose as a first name (his grandmothers name).  My grandmother's name is Mais so I thought it would be nice to include it.

I've been tossing around more popular middle names (like Rose Olivia) but keep coming back to Maisie.

@EmT156 DD is Norah and our last name is 2 syllables - I've never had anyone comment on it at all and never thought twice about it. I think your name choice is lovely
  • Bringing this thread back! We are getting so close to meeting our little girl and still having a hard time with names.. HELP.. suggestions welcome! The last name is Michaels

    we like the names:
    Peyton Olivia
    Lilianna

Should of given this more thought before pregnancy brain took over..
  • @onesassybishh I LOVE Lilianna (pronounced "anna" or "onna"?) Would her middle name still be Olivia?
  • @onesssybishh of the two I prefer Lilianna, Peyton is not my style.  Some of the other ladies here may of other ideas (if you're open to that) and name board was really great at suggesting middle names for me when I posted over there.

  • @onesassybishh I think they both sound really pretty!! I would have a tough time picking between the two, to be honest. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice! Maybe when you see her one name will "speak" to you more than the other?

    @onesassybishh Lilianna is beautiful
  • @onesassybishh  I like Lilliana (pronounced ah-na).
  • We are also doing Liliana

  • Oh good, the name thread! My RCS is scheduled in 7 weeks and we still haven't decided.

When you guys hear Avery do you automatically think girl or boy or assume it could be either? I think of it as a boy's name since all the Avery's I've met are male but I was surprised to see it was #16 last year for girls and in the 180's for boys.

  • @DataJane I think of it as both, I know a boy named Avery but I've heard of girls with it too. For what it's worth, I love the name.
