How long after delivery can I go for any dental work? I have a damaged tooth on my lower right side and it's bit irritating me. I know I can't get any dental work now, so I'm just tolerating it but I'm afraid if it will affect my baby. I'm planning to get a white filling for my damaged tooth from Appleton Dental Clinic in Whitby. I'm planning to talk about this to my gynecologist, she may be able to give some medicines that I can have for the time being. Anyone here with the similar situation? What have you done?
Definitely talk to your OB right now about getting dental work done while you're pregnant. I spoke to my dentist friend and she said that OBs usually have a list of dos and don'ts for dental work that you can give your dentist. It's better to get it done during pregnancy than not, in most cases. The pain and stress is not worth it for your baby. Also, you don't want your damaged tooth to get infected. Dental infections can cause preterm labor and other pregnancy complications. Pregnant women are more prone to dental problems due to hormones anyway.
I am a dental assistant, you can definitely have most dental procedures as long as you dont require a sedative. You can still have local anaesthetic (i think you guys call it novocaine?) we use a brand thats recommended for pregnant women, but most LA is fine anyway. You can ask for one with non adrenaline, any good dental place will have it as some people have sensitivites. We dont recommend hygienist cleanings in the first tri, and we tend to avoid xrays.
Also a dental assistant living near Whitby. You can definitely have some dental work done as PP said. I recommend no epinephrine local anesthesia. Every office should have it. Stay away from x-rays though. Good luck with the procedure.
I just got dental work done today. My OB had no issues with it. I called and they told me what local anesthetic was okay. I even had to get X-rays done; they just put the lead apron over my front and back.
