KimmySchmidt  right there with you for amazon. I do a majority of our shopping on amazon, I save a ton of money. I use my wishlists to track prices and check for deals. I don't have to wait for $35 order to get something shipped so if a see something that retails for $12 (like a kitchen thermometer i just ordered) and I see in on amazon for right under $10 I order and it and it appears 2 days later like magic. plus I HATE places like walmart and will do anything I can to avoid it.

ETA: I LOVE AMAZON and can go on and on about it. I had over 100 orders last year!!!!!
Are you familiar with camelcamelcamel.com? I use it ALL the time to compare prices. You can sign up for an alert if a price on a product drops to where you want it. Sometimes on mark downs it will look like a lot, but then you can go on camelcamelcamel and see that it was never listed anywhere near retail price anyway, so it's a much less significant discount than advertised.

  • @PSUBecky23 omg I'm sorry but I just laughed too. What do you even do about that?? Those poor teachers, haha!  I'm assuming she doesn't do that at home? I mean, talk about a way to get your point across :)
  • She definitely does. They just asked for ideas from us that they might not have thought of. We will be spending a lot of time talking about it this weekend. No idea how else to deal with it. WTF, kid.

  • @PSUBecky23 When I read your post, I couldn't help but think "what if adults threw tantrums like that". Lol.

  • @PSUBecky23 pssssh. Her teacher is uptight. That's how I deal with MY problems.

  • I found out today that DH should have slightly over 4 weeks of paid time off when the baby is born. So now I'm torn between having him take the planned 3 weeks and saving those 6 extra days or asking him take a full 4 weeks. He accumulates PTO every month (even earning 3 days some months), so wiping it out wouldn't keep it that way long.

  • @PSUBecky23 I laughed so hard at the video. It was funnier knowing my daughter does 90% of those things.

  • That video is awesome! And good luck figuring out how to deal with that situation @PSUBecky23 ! I laughed at first too---but you'll have to let us know what you come up with. It sounds like it will require some creativity !
  • UO thread in a nutshell (I stopped reading because it was making me angry) - people earning minimum wage are lazy and don't deserve to get ahead in life and transgender women don't deserve female recognition awards because they havent been a woman long enough to understand the true struggle. (I may have put my own spin on this summary and possibly inserted a lot of sarcasm. Can you guess where I fall on the political spectrum?)
WOAH! Glad I didn't go on there I would have lost my mind at that amount of ignorance! Thanks for warning me ;)

@LakeR2014 haaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha. I'm sorry, that's just straight up fantastic.  There's a rapper from Maine (yes just one, and he's not very famous) and a line in his only semi-popular song is "And the hair on my ass, it is Jumanji" which I think fits so well with your new growth. Can you use a trimmer on it? As long as it doesn't make it too short.. a stubbly/itchy butt crack is definitely not the end goal here...
@AnnaS930 I've tried trimming, shaving, and I swear it grows with an unholy zeal.   It's not what I'd think 'ass-crack' hair would look like either.  No this is braid worthy hair.   It just does not stop growing!   If I wasn't so mortified about it I'd consider calling Guinness because hey if you're going to be in the book, might as well be for 'longest hair coming out of one's butt crack.'
    I am DYING!!! :)

  • Does anyone have a solution to get rid of the ads? Is the Bump hard up for money or something?

  • @mom2adoodle AdBlock for Chrome seems to be working.  I see the space they should be on the list of threads, but no actual ads there or in the posts themselves!

  • @kosmo86 happy birthday!!!

I'm all about Amazon Prime- LOVE it! When I bought my snoogle in person, I needed a better cover for it, so I ordered it on Amazon, free 2 day shipping, and it arrived the next morning! WHAT!? Love it!
BRU- I'm looking forward to that gift card too! So cool that they do that! :)

  • So opening day for Detroit Tigers baseball is like a holiday for everyone in the area. People go downtown super early and party all day. Some go to the game and others just tailgate or bar hop. It's bigger than St. Pattys Day to many.

My husband decided to go with his friend and they left the house at 7am this morning. It's after 8:30pm and he's still not back yet. I'm all for him blowing off steam and having fun but he is not going to be much fun to be around this weekend. Plus I'm a little annoyed that he said someone's wife was driving them home hours ago and then I had to ask where he's at now to find they are STILL bar hopping and are taking a bus home to his friend's house. Which they have twin 4 month olds so it's not like he can just stay there (I don't think). I'm ready for bed now and am getting kinda cranky bc I don't want him driving drunk or buzzed home.  Which means I may need to be on call to drive 25 mins to pick him up later from the friend's house and I did not sign up for that.

Ughh...I am debating whether to lay into him or just let him go with his plan and pray it all works out. He is pretty responsible so I can't imagine him putting his life in danger but would anyone else feel a little crabby that their husbands have been partying for over 12 hours while their pregnant wife is at home?! Not that I wanted to be there since I'm tired and can't drink but still....sigh. Sorry for the rant. :(

  • @themaritimemama We've had our issues over the years (he's headstrong and I can be, too, so we've clashed a lot, especially when I was a teenager), but he's really mellowed since he found out he's going to be a grandpa and is being super sweet.  Honestly, I couldn't ask for better parents.  They do so much for me and my husband.  I'm absolutely blessed to have them. <3

And speaking of my husband, it's his birthday today!  Happy birthday, E!

  • @blondie080300 nope, I'd be super annoyed!! Especially without a set plan for a ride home, since then he's putting you out if you have to go get him. I probably wouldn't lay into him tonight, but tomorrow when he's nice and hungover, I'd let him hear it!!
  • @SLou24 I did end up driving to downtown Detroit to pick him and his friend up from a bar. Then I drove his friend home (so about an hour and a half trip total after I was about to go to bed). But the worst part is that DH actually had the nerve to suggest he still should be good to drive his car home when we dropped his friend off! I am so proud of myself since that made my blood boil and I still calmly told him we would get his car tomorrow (and talk about ways we can communicate better in the future-after he kept apologizing). Aka I want to make sure he is truly not feeling the effects of the beer to soften the conversation he has coming his way. Yes I'm disappointed in the way the night turned out but I'm more upset that he thinks he can still drive after partying all day/night. I don't care that he quit drinking a couple of hours ago. That is not enough!

  • I just signed up for a "slings and things" baby wearing class. Yay or total waste of money? Hopefully yay!
  • @mom2doodle--I hope it's great! I wish I had taken some sort of babywearing class before my son was born. I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out on my own and hands-on instruction is so much better!

You might also see if there is a local chapter of babywearing international in your area. Our chapter has two meet ups a month with instruction and social time. Dues-paying members ($30/yr) also get access to the chapter's lending library of carriers and can check one out per month! It's a great place to learn and a great way to try out carriers before buying. ;)
  • @Sporty1216 wow! thanks so much. they have a chapter in my area :) looks cool!! do you think I need to wait before registering/purchasing for any wraps? right now I have my eyes on a Tula and Ktan but I understand it might be a good idea to see what works for me first.
  • Woo hoo! I'm glad you have a chapter nearby. I've met great people there and I have learned so much!

In terms of registering, I'd say you'd be safe with the k'tan or some other stretchy since those tend to be awesome with newborns and small infants. I have found that I am a ring sling/wrap person more than a soft-structured-carrier person, so I don't know a lot about Tulas. But from what I hear, folks say that finding the right SSC is like finding the right pair of jeans. You might see if you can a) register somewhere it would be easy to return the Tula if it's not "you" or b) try on some different carriers before choosing one to register for. It might be tough to tell without having baby here though. Another thing to consider is that with a Tula, ergo, and others, you have to use an infant insert (purchased separately) with newborns. There are some SSCs that can be used with newborns without an insert, like lillebaby, beco, and the newest ergo transitions.

Anyway. Sorry for the novel. I'm super passionate about this!

there are great Facebook groups too--everyday babywearing, babywearing 102, and carrier-specific ones as well. the babywearing community is awesome.
  • @Sporty1216 Thank you. That is great advice. I just joined the Facebook groups to soak in some more information. I have never worn a baby but I like the idea and hope to find something that works for me! Do you have any suggestions for what would work for DH? Are there certain "no no" wraps for guys?
  • @kosmo86 Happy birthday! I hope your dinner was fantastic and that your weekend is off to a great start!

@PSUBecky My little brother used to sneak outside, strip naked, pile up his clothes and then pee on them! Just because he was bored. Good luck with the conversations with your DD this weekend!

@Spoety1216 I'm super interested in babywearing and want to explore way morebthis time than I did with DD. What's the best way to find local chapters for the classes / hands on trying-out? Is there a specific group name I should be Googling?

  • I'm happy to pass on some of what I've learned, @mom2adoodle

As for your DH, I have seen men wear all kinds of wraps and carriers! It's all about personal preference. You'll see lots of babywearing daddy posts on those groups. Or, post and ask for some. Something like the k'tan is size specific, but most other carriers are adjustable between people of different sizes. maybe your DH can come to a BWI meeting or something with you sometime and see what he likes.  :)

I'm excited for you! I didn't start wearing my LO until he was a few months old. I'm super jazzed to start from the beginning this time!
  • @JennM205 I just typed in "baby wearing international" on facebook and added myself to the group haha. I then found my local chapter through that!
  • @JennM205 and @mom2adoodle -- you can also go to babywearing international's website (babywearinginternational.org) and find chapters there. That site also has loads of great instructional videos and explanations about different kinds of carriers. Popular newborn to toddler carriers include woven wraps, ring slings, and mei tais.

There are are great YouTube channels too. I especially like "wrap you in love" and "wrapping Rachel."

it's seriously such a fun world. I am still wearing my LO and it helps so much. It's way easier to wear him than to chase him through a store or keep him from wriggling around in the shopping cart.
  • I am babywearing obsessed so feel free to ask any questions, ladies. Definitely second (or third?) going to a BWI meeting. They have a lending library so you can try out different carriers because each one will be different for every mom/baby. (Example, people rave about Tulas. I much prefer my Ergo.) Also, the ergo worked great for my giant husband. It's easily adjustable.

  • I'm loving all the baby wearing info! I've been wondering how to find baby wearing meetings. I didn't wear DD often, and not until she was several months old. I'd like to start right away with this one so I can keep my hands free for interacting with my toddler. We have an Ergo that we used with DD, and my SIL gave me a wrap, but I really need to try everything out to see what works best for me and baby.

  • I definitely need to do more research/learn more about baby wearing. I plan on wearing this baby, I think it seems like such an amazing way to efficiently carry baby while doing other things, as well as stay close to them! I didn't realize there were classes out there, maybe I'll research some in my area. I live in the city but still in a pretty hippy dippy part of the city, so there are TONS of baby wearers around here. :) I wish I had more friends with babies so that I could try out theirs!

Definitely see what you can find on the BWI site in terms of local chapters--and also, my experience is that if you see a mom (or dad!) out there wearing, they are usually thrilled for a chance to stop and talk about it. Ask questions, talk to people, and get whatever hands-on help you can find. Those Facebook groups I mentioned (everyday babywearing and babywearing 102) are also awesome resources.

    It's a great obsession, right, @PSUBecky23 ?!

ETA: when you get ready to buy, check out babywearing on a budget (everything is $100 or less) and the babywearing swap. You can find some good deals on used carriers and used means broken in, which is often better than new in the case of baby carriers!
